Abstract [en]

Th'is project has focused on exploring the physical environment of food markets in Kisumu, on the shore of Lake Victoria. During the time in Kisumu every market has been turned inside out to learn and understand how they function and what makes some of them more popular than others. The historical aspects of trade and markets have been investigated as well as the current trends which affect the markets and can be seen as opportunities or threats for sustainable development of them. This has been done with the starting point in the trader’s and customer’s perspectives and results in guidelines for development and construction of new marketplaces.
