Abstract [en]

At present cable harness designers at SCANIA CV AB do not have a method to estimate cost and weight of a cable harness in design stages.

The same challenge occurs in cable harness designing industry.

Aim of this thesis is to develop a tool to estimate cost and weight of the cable harness during design stages.

A user-friendly tool which reads data from design output files, retrieves data from the company databases, performs required calculations and produces cost and weight of the cable harness.

The results were compared with physically measured cable harness and validated.

Most of the existing automobile cable harnesses today have copper as insulator.

To achieve continuous improvement in a trucks weight and cost, other alternatives of copper are to be investigated.

A possibility of using aluminium cables instead of copper cables has been investigated in this thesis project.
