Abstract [en]

IntroductionDigital transformation in the supply chain is gaining popularity due to the recent customer behaviors and the retail market trends. COVID-19 has forced more organizations to implement digital transformation to overcome the challenges. The problem we have identified is how digital transformation in the supply chain has helped the COVID-19 and continuous transformation for future uncertainties. IKEA’s supply chain has been chosen for the study.Theory/Literature reviewTheory/Literature review gathered from the previous similar studies on the relevant topics. The major variables that are part of the conceptual framework are Supply chain, digital transformation, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The conceptual framework is built to find the relationship among the three variablesMethodologyThe research strategy is a case study. Data collection methods are one-to-one Interviews. The data analysis method is qualitative. One-to-one Interviews were applied to identify the digital transformation and covid effects on the supply chain by conducting an inductive approach and thematic content analysis to search for patterns within the data. Non-probability sampling was used for the data collection method, as the Interviews were contingent on having participants with special knowledge about the digital transformation in the supply chain and its preparation for future uncertainties.Empirical FindingsEmpirical findings show that IKEA has been on the digital transformation journey and the supply chain has been part of it. IKEA also seems to have benefited from the digital transformation. IKEA’s online sales have boosted during lockdowns and digital transformation has helped in making the company sustainable in the business.AnalysisIn the analysis, we clearly found good relations and positive effects of digital transformation on the supply chain and challenges/negative effects of COVID-19. Our Analysis also shows that IKEA is somewhat prepared for similar pandemic situations and made the business processes resilient to deal with a certain level of uncertainties.ConclusionWe answered the research question with our extensive study through empirical findings and analysis. The limitations are addressed in the conclusion. Future research can be on exploring the similar relation in another organization.KeywordsDigital Transformation, Supply Chain, Pandemic, COVID-19, Digital transformation in Supply Chain, Future uncertainties, IKEA.
