Abstract [sv]

Denna text undersöker om formspråket kan användas på ett effektivt sätt för att framhäva 3D-modellerade karaktärers personligheter. Undersökningen görs då det finns färre texter om formspråket för 3D-modellerade karaktärer än vad det finns för 2D-modellerade karaktärer. Formspråk är en metod för att skapa karaktärer där man använder tre huvudformer: triangel, rektangel och cirkel. Metoden menar att dessa former ger olika känslor till karaktären. Detta undersöks genom att använda gamla folktrons väsen som försvunnit med tiden och försöka få fram deras karaktärsdrag med hjälp av formspråket. Karaktärerna 3D-modelleras sedan i Autodesk Maya utefter den insamlade informationen om väsen och utefter de former som används ur formspråket. Undersökningen görs genom en Google formulär och semistrukturerade intervjuer för att få en bred uppfattning av hur deltagarna uppfattat karaktärerna. Till sist analyserades svaren för att se om karaktärsdesigner var lyckade. Det visade sig då att det delvis fungerar och att använda sig av formspråket men att sättet som karaktärerna var skapade med färg kan ha bidragit till detta resultat. Om karaktärerna får mycket dramatiska former förmedlas formens karaktärsdrag mycket bra men då ser karaktären mindre mänsklig ut.

Abstract [en]

This text examines whether shape language can be used effectively to highlight the personalities of 3D-modeled characters. The investigation is conducted because there are fewer texts on shape language for 3D-modeled characters compared to 2D-modeled characters. Shape language is a method of creating characters using three primary shapes: triangle, rectangle, and circle. The method suggests that these shapes convey different emotions to the character. This is explored by using old mythical creatures that have disappeared over time and attempting to capture their characteristics using shape language. The characters are then 3D-modeled in Autodesk Maya based on the collected information about the creatures and the shapes used in shape language. The investigation is conducted through a Google form and semi-structured interviews to gain a broad understanding of how participants perceived the characters. Finally, the responses were analyzed to determine whether the character designs were successful. It was found that shape language works to some extent, but the way the characters were created with color might have contributed to this result. If the characters have very dramatic shapes, the shape's characteristics are conveyed very well, but then the character looks less human.
