Abstract [sv]

The purpose of this study was to gain insight into refuges experience of traumatic events such as torture, political persecution, war, natural disasters and other trauma. For the study used theories which, inter alia, deals with many of the refugees coming to Sweden is influenced by various psychological trauma and may be accompanied by torture, political persecution, war, natural disasters and other trauma. To this study, a survey with 40 participants, 17 women and 23 men. There was also an interview on the Internet with a refugees consultant within the Red Cross. The men had higher average than women in all the perceived problems. Mann-Whitney test showed that there were no gender differences in terms of some of the perceived problems. Participants most positive experience was that they were aware that they have survived and have come to a safer country. The negative experience was that they could not speak Swedish, that they were forced to leave their home country, they were forced to adapt to Swedish society, they have lost their identity, they feel constant concern about being returned to their home country, they felt helpless and that they can not be in their home country. The most common problem was the tendency to flinch at the sudden sound or movement and reminder of the seats. The least most common problem was that they had a tendency to isolate themselves from others. In the discussion held discussion around all sections such as the ethical aspects have been taken when the questionnaire touched on sensitive issues, but that they were general, and do not affect sensitive memories, participation was voluntary and that other research has studied similar issues.
