Abstract [sv]

Problem: Present day theories about strategies might seem out of date. Since information differs between traditional services and IT-services, we have found it necessary to investigate how strategies can be used within the IT-sector and the new economy. Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to increase our understanding for possible strategies that can make mobile services lucrative. Methodology: The investigation is qualitative and we are going to tackle the problem by using a positivistic method. By using an abductive process we will conduct a discussion throughout the theoretical and the empirical part of the assignment. The empirical material has been collected through interviews done at Vodafone and Exsero in Karlskrona. Conclusions: The theories about strategies do to some point describe reality correctly. There do seem to be differences concerning costs and prices. In the new economy there are different costs that have to be taken into account, this means that a strategy based on cost leadership does not comply with the given circumstances. We have seen a pattern in our investigation concerning several strategies. These strategies are: differentiation, segmentation, first mover advantage, positive feedback and collaboration between complementors. Companies that are willing to use these strategies must adapt these strategies to there own specific circumstances. Therefore we surges that these strategies cannot be implemented generally.
