Abstract [en]

In industrial workplaces, such as factories, noise pollution is a prominent danger to the health of workers, and could cause physical and psychological harm to them. The purpose of this thesis is to formulate and implement a device that can help locate the origin of these noise sources. This paper deals with the design and implementation of a spatial acoustic measurement device that can locate the origin of dominant acoustical sources in an environment. The device is made up of an array of microphones in a filter-and-sum array. The filters are designed using the Least Squares filter design method. The end device was able to identify the location of an acoustical noise source. The amount of attenuation for non pass band angles achieved depended on the number of filter taps used, main lobe width, and the number of microphones selected.
