LIFE ESTIMATION OF TOWBARS ON 3D CARLOS TEST SET UP
Blekinge Institute of Technology, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
2013 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years))Student thesis
Abstract [en]

The Thule Towing System Netherlands manufacturing the Tow bars for OE and AM customers. In current situation, the Engineer designs the tow bar models in Pro/ENGINEER and analyzing its strength qualitatively(justifying from the big red spot region) in Pro/MECHANICA. Basically, the analysis is done to predict the life and to judge whether the model will survive the physical test (CARLOS). CARLOS is the physical test with the dynamic load cases occurring at the tow hook orthogonally for 93 hours. The model predicted to survive on the CARLOS test bench are prototyped and tested. The problem is that the model predicted from FEA to survive the test is not actually surviving. In order to make the prediction to be the same between FEA and CARLOS a new simulation procedure with an assessment method should be developed with the FKM guidelines which is the standard analysis method for fatigue.
