    Exercise and factors associated with active commuting2014Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Background: In order to increase the current levels of physical activity new strategies have been suggested where it is incorporated into daily routines, such as commuting to and from school/work. Active commuting i.e. cycling or walking to and from school/work is an excellent strategy to increase the overall activity levels. Even though the health benefits of active commuting are well documented, non-active modes of transportation (i.e. cars, bus, train) remain the main mode of transportation. The purpose of the present study is to examine the prevalence and what factors are influencing participation in active commuting in the municipality of Karlskrona, Sweden. Method: A cross-sectional study, including base-line data from parents-to- be was carried out, including 432 participants. Questionnaires were filled in and data collection was conducted during a year in 2008 and 2009. The results were calculated using multivariate logistic regression with odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: The main mode of commuting was motorised vehicle (63.0%), whilst active commuters were a minority (8.3%). The regression model demonstrated a negative association between being Swedish and AC; as such immigrants were more likely to be active commuters (CI 0.08-0.80). The variable mostly associated with AC was the type of residential area. Participants living in an urban area had 5.4 times higher odds of AC compared to participants living in a rural area (CI 1.51-18.54). Being surrounded by a green-space environment decreased the probability of engaging in AC compared to being surrounded by buildings the majority of time (CI 0.07-0.60). Another important variable was outdoor recreational PA, were engaging resulted in 3.9 times higher odds of AC compared to those not engaging in outdoor recreational PA (CI 1.31-11.71). Although the variable pet-ownership remained in the last step of the model non-significant, it explains some of the variance in the model (0.10-1.24). Conclusions: The number of people being active are modest and are instead using other modes of transportation. This study found several factors both facilitating and impeding active commuting, signifying the importance of applying a broad health promotional approach to active commuting.

    Abstract [en]

    Aim: The purpose of the present study is to examine the prevalence of active commuting and factors associated with participation in active commuting in the municipality of Karlskrona, Sweden. Active commuting is defined here as walking or cycling to and from school/work for at least 15 min one-way. Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out, which included baseline data from parents-to-be. Pregnant females and their partners were invited to participate in the study when they contacted either of the municipality’s two antenatal clinics. Data collection ran from March 2008 to February 2009. When completing the questionnaire, the participants were asked to reflect on their situation one month before the female became pregnant. The final sample consisted of 432 participants (response rate 51.9% for females and 85.0% for males). Results: The main mode of commuting was motor vehicle (63.0%), with active commuters forming a minority (8.3%). The main facilitating factor for active commuting was living in an urban as opposed to a rural area. Regular participation in outdoor recreational physical activity was significantly positively associated with active commuting. Being Swedish and being surrounded by a green space environment were significantly negatively associated with active commuting. Conclusions: This study found that the number of people who are active commuters is modest and other modes of transportation are preferred. Several facilitating and impeding factors associated with active commuting were also found, indicating the importance of applying a broad health-promoting approach to encouraging active commuting.

    Abstract [en]

    TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X is able to fly in monostatic pursuit mode, a formation with the satellites in identic orbit displaced in along-Track of a distance corresponding to 10 s delay. Such formation gives e.g. The ability to detect very slow targets or targets moving only between measurements. This can be performed using Change Detection (CD) and/or the Detection of Moving Targets by Focusing (DMTF) technique. A combination of DMTF and CD is promising. To investigate the applicability of the methods for moving target detection, an experiment was performed with TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X in monostatic pursuit mode and several deployed targets. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach.

    För att förstå den fysiska planeringen krävs förståelse för de sammanhang i vilket planerandet utförs. Bebyggelsen består av många olika delar, byggnader, vägar med mera, som tillsammans utgör vidare strukturer. Det krävs insikt i hur bebyggelsen har vuxit fram för att förstå hur nya strukturer ska utformas efter som de är sammanlänkade och påverkar varandra. Den här uppsatsen är ett försök att identifiera begrepp för att bättre förstå dessa strukturer. En viktig insikt är den om att urbanisering är en komplex process och uppsatsen grundar sig på en indelning av Nils Lewan i tre olika synsätt på hur urbanisering kan ses: arkitektens, geografens och sociologens perspektiv. Beroende på synsätt varierar graden av hur stor del av Sveriges befolkning som kan sägas vara urban ifrån 70 till nära 100 procent. Detta problematiserar användandet av det statistiska begreppet tätort för att beskriva urbaniseringsgrad. För att förstå hur de ser ut, krävs insikt i hur de har vuxit fram. Och för att göra det förståeligt krävs insikter i de funktioner bebyggelsen antar – bebyggelsen utgör en bosättning. Det här är berättelsen om hur staden paradoxalt nog både blev det allenarådande levnadssättet, samtidigt som den förlorade de flesta av sina tidigare särdrag och kännetecken. Om hur staden som geografisk plats och social konstruktion blev staden som idé, ideal och geografisk punkt.

    Abstract [en]

    A company producing mostly asphalt rollers has a hard time quality assuring their bolted connections. There is an assembly line at the company where the different parts are put together using screwdrivers. These screwdrivers therefore need to be properly calibrated, to meet the high standards on the bolted connections.

     

    The purpose of this research has been to come up with a cost-effective solution for the manufacturing company, so that they can digitally keep track of their screwdrivers and determine the need for calibration. The aim is to achieve full control over the quality of the connected screw-joints.

     

    A lot of the research was focused around Industry 4.0 and IoT (Internet of Things) which are two of the most recognized buzzwords in production industries today. A product development process was used to develop the proposed solution that would help solve the identified problems.

     

    The result of the research and the product development process is an Excel based database where information about screwdrivers are held. The database can determine when there is a need for a screwdriver to be calibrated based on the total amount of performed tightenings for each screwdriver. The total amount of performed tightenings are determined by the total amount of produced asphalt rollers which is retrieved from a production software within the company. The database also stores timestamps for calibration and service intervals, for each screwdriver.

     

    The initial research was focused on new screwdrivers, however, inventorying of the screwdrivers made it clear that most of the screwdrivers in the manufacturing line only had the basic functions. With this information, the focus shifted to include both new and old screwdrivers. The final solution uses existing information from the company to determine when calibration is needed. Most manufacturing companies today still uses old tools, this solution can help them transition into a more digitalized industry. This solution doesn’t require tools to be compatible with a software while still offering the modern functions of newer screwdrivers.

    Development of asphalt removing tool for a tandem roller2014Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    This master thesis have been done to come up with different concepts that could solve problems that is connected to vibrations in tandem rollers. The main problem is that the vibrations makes it harder to remove asphalt with the built in scraper, creating an uneven contact with the drum and the scraper. The new concepts should improve the machines ability to remove asphalt and decrease the amount of maintenance that is needed. To understand what the new tool needs to do some functional analyses have been done. To create new concepts the triz method have been used. The different concept was evaluated with a pugh matrix and swot. In the final part the focus is on how the best concept could become better. The final concept locks the scraper geometrically so it moves the same way as the drum. This makes it so it always are at the same distance to the drum.

    Abstract [en]

    Braking is mainly controlled by the engine. Friction between a pair of pads and a rotating disc converts the kinetic energy of the vehicle into heat. High temperatures can be reached in the system which can be detrimental for both, components and passenger safety. Numerical techniques help simulate load cases and compute the temperatures field in brake disc and brake pads. The present work implements a Finite Element (FE) toolbox in Matlab/Simulink able to simulate different braking manoeuvres used for brake dimensioning mainly in the early phase of car development process. The brake pad/disc geometry is considered as an axisymmetric body assuming negligible temperature gradient along the circumference of the disc. Calibration using three control factors namely: heat coefficient during braking , acceleration  and emissivity  for the implemented thermal model is performed using experimental investigation at Volvo Car Corporation (VCC) for three specific severe load cases. The thermal model is extended to measure brake fluid temperatures to ensure no vaporisation occurs. Simulation results of the brake disc and brake pad show good correlation with the experimental tests. A sensitivity analysis with the control factors showed convective coefficient during acceleration  the most sensitive, with temperature change of around 16%.

    I samband med min utbildning till fysisk planerare stötte jag på begreppet trygghet flera gånger. Dock nämndes detta sällan i samband med belysning, utan endast andra aspekter togs upp. Därför tycker jag att det behövs närmare undersökning av hur vi egentligen upplever att en trygg miljö ska vara. Det behövs närmare undersökning av hur denna upplevda trygga miljö påverkas av en annan sorts belysning. Detta leder således till att denna uppsats behandlar ämnet trygghet i relation till belysning, med en inriktning på rörelsestyrd belysning. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka om städer kan dra nytta av rörelsestyrd belysning och hur den rörelsestyrda respektive vanliga belysningen påverkar trygghetskänslan. Arbetet utgår ifrån innehållsanalyser av teknisk litteratur och forskningslitteratur och av en fallstudie av ett område på Kungsholmstrand i Stockholm.

    Denna studie kommer att fokusera på i huvudsak två delar, en områdessöversikt och en fallstudie. Syftet med arbetet är att undersöka hur Malmö stad, Norrköpings kommun och Karlskrona kommun arbetar med översiktlig planering för att öka motståndskraften mot havsnivåhöjningar samt att skapa en förståelse för fenomenet havsnivåhöjning. Vidare även att behandla vad stigande havsnivåer kan leda till och hur framtiden kan komma att te sig enligt forskning samt att beskriva strategier som kan användas för att öka motståndskfraften mot havsnivåhöjning.

    Studien kommer att utgå från kvalitativ forskning med utgångspunkt i ett hermeneutiskt perspektiv. Metoden för datainsamling är dokument som kommer att utgå i från två typer av skrifter: vetenskapligt framställda och granskade dokument samt dokumentation utgiven av FN, statliga verk, länsstyrelser och kommuner. Dokumenten analyseras sedan med hjälp av en innehållsanalys som utgår från ett teoretiskt perspektiv, vilket utgörs av tre begrepp: anpassning, resilience och havsnivåhöjning.

    Slutligen diskuteras och jämförs fallen samt att frågeformuleringar diskuteras i form av slutsatser.

    Abstract [en]

    It is possible to discern different political values and social norms in the physical structure of the city. Normative ideas about what is proper and improper behaviour in public spaces influences how the city's streets, squares and parks are portrayed through spatial planning. The public space is constantly shaped and reshaped by transformations that are simultaneously subtle and obvious – symbolic and physical. This makes the public space such an interesting topic to study, hence the essay examines the prevailing notions of public space in Swedish urban planning, by critically discussing how public space is mediated at national, regional and local planning levels and in architectural competitions. The intention is to highlight assumptions that help shape contemporary public spaces within a Swedish context and what spatial constructions (public places) these could give us. The essay conducts the study with content analysis of the Planning and Building Act, national, regional and local planning documents as well as material produced in architectural competitions conducted in the City of Stockholm between 2005 and 2014. The analysis is delimited to these types of documents because they can be considered to influence and, to some extent, to control the spatial configurations being built in the city. The essay reveals that although public space is still regarded as an essential urban space to maintain open, accessible and as a public good, the underlying assumptions mainly affected by economic perspectives tend to control the configuration of the space. The essay highlights that these notions treat public space as a container of a certain mix of activities that are considered to contribute to a desirable urban life in the public space. The essay also highlights some general implications that may occur when the configuration of the public space is partly shaped at the expense of an unmediated and varied public life.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper is a conclusion of a four-month-long research project. Aging and lifestyle diseases pose a massive challenge for sustainability of societies of the developed countries. The aim of the study was creation of a set of guidelines and actions that would facilitate interaction between primary health care and wellness organisations in Sweden in a manner conducive to achievement of social sustainability in the area of public health. The theoretical part provides insights into significance of public health for sustainability. It explores systematic barriers for achievement and maintenance of optimal health within health system and social system. Research was conducted through interviews with professionals working at the Blekinge Health Arena, doctors and nurses. The results were framed within FSSD to ensure compliance with Social Sustainability Principles. The guidelines and actions promote health through lifestyle change, community empowerment, holistic perspective of the patient and close collaboration between primary health care and wellness organisations. The authors believe the results may be widely implemented within Sweden, helping transition towards sustainability.

    Abstract [en]

    Autonomous Driving and Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are revolutionizing the way we drive and the future of mobility. Among ADAS, Traffic Sign Classification is an important technique which assists the driver to easily interpret traffic signs on the road. In this thesis, we used the powerful combination of Image Processing and Deep Learning to pre-process and classify the traffic signs. Recent studies in Deep Learning show us how good a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is for image classification and there are several state-of-the-art models with classification accuracies over 99 % existing out there. This shaped our thesis to focus more on tackling the current challenges and some open-research cases. We focussed more on performance tuning by modifying the existing architectures with a trade-off between computations and accuracies. Our research areas include enhancement in low light/noisy conditions by adding Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) connections, and contribution to a universal-regional dataset with Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). The results obtained on the test data are comparable to the state-of-the-art models and we reached accuracies above 98% after performance evaluation in different frameworks

    Abstract [en]

    The main aim of the project is to develop an algorithm which will classify the activity performed by a human who is carrying a smart phone. The day to day life made humans very busy at work and during daily activities, mostly elderly people who are at home have an important need to monitor their activity by others when they are alone, if they are inactive for a long time without movement, or in some situations like if they have fallen down, became unconscious for sometime or seized with a cardiac arrest etc… will help the observer to know the state of activity of person being monitored. In this project we develop an algorithm to know the activity of a person using accelerometer available in Smartphone. We have extracted the Smartphone accelerometer data using an application called accelerometer data logger version 1.0 available in Smartphone market and have processed the data in Matlab for classifying the different activities of human being into static and dynamic activity, if the activity is dynamic then further classification into walking or running is performed with the algorithm. We implemented smoothening filters for data analysis and statistical techniques like standard deviation, mean and signal magnitude analysis for activity classification. This classification algorithm will let us know the type of activity either static or dynamic and then classify the position of the user, such as walking, running or ideal, which can provide useful information for the observer who is monitoring the activities of wearer, and which will help the wearer for his daily living. To bring out the extensive use of algorithm and to provide valuable feedback for wearer regarding his activities, energy spent by user during the activities was calculated at a given time using regression methods and was implemented in the algorithm. The developed model was able to estimate the energy spent by the user, the observations recorded were almost similar to the treadmill data which is taken as a standard for our model and the mean error is not more than ±2 for 30 observations. The final results when compared with the standard model was proved to be 93 % accurate on average of 30 subjects data which is used for verifying the algorithm developed. With these set of results we have come to a conclusion that algorithm can be easily implemented in a real time Smartphone application with low false predictions and can be implemented with low computational cost and fast real-time response. In future our classification algorithm can also be used in military applications where one can know what the soldier is doing without actually seeing him and additionally it can be proved as a support system in athlete’s health monitoring and training.

    Global society is threatened by many social and ecological challenges, together they form a complex environment defined in this thesis as the sustainability challenge. Organizations have a major impact on this challenge, with business strategy being the leverage point. This thesis identifies the gaps and recommendations to address those gaps to strategically move organizations towards reaching a sustainable society. The <IR> Framework by the IIRC is a reporting structure and method that includes sustainability elements within a business orientated context. Through 20 interviews, report comparison and system analysis we have generated the results. These highlight gaps with regards to planetary limits and lack of directing organizations towards sustainability. Based on the findings we conclude that <IR>can be a steppingstone by introducing organizations to sustainability elements within business language. However, <IR> cannot be used as a standalone tool to reach a sustainable society. <IR> does assist and succeed in making organizations more strategic, which prepares them to move to sustainability. Overall, organizations acquire a broader perception and understanding regarding non-financials. Recommendations include integrating systems thinking, formulating ‘success’ and back casting from it to strategically prioritize actions; also referring to other tools and concepts that can assist in niche areas within <IR>.

    Abstract [en]

    This bachelor thesis aims to clarify the relationship between urban stormwater management and heritage sites. The topic is so far relatively unexplored, but may become highly relevant in the near future. Scientifically there is a lot of information about the impact from stormwater in heritage objects, also when repeated. The solution is sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) and insertion of green infrastructure in the actual area or the surrounding areas. However, science and local management are not the same. At a local level, more information is requested. It appears that, from the investigated examples in this thesis, the problem is to find available areas for the drainage systems. Also the protection and conservation of the heritage objects create restrictions considering changes in the actual area. However, it is not impossible to apply these solutions, as showed in the thesis concluding chapter. In general both experts and laymen are positive to the insertion, as long as SUDS are introduced in respect to the heritage values.

    Rätten till staden är en ständigt pågående diskussion om människors möjlighet att använda sig av staden och skapa den verklighet de själva lever i. I städer finns människor som har sällskap av hund och som frekvent använder sig av det offentliga rummet. Uppsatsen syftar till att bidra med en förståelse för hundägarens och hundens plats i staden genom att undersöka hundägares och hundars användande av staden, deras upplevelser i det offentliga rummet och på vilket sett de kan ge uttryck för behov i staden.  

    Uppsatsens empiriska material har samlats in med den etnografiska metoden go-along för att undersöka hundägares och hundars vardagliga liv, samt genom en fokusgrupp med två etologer för att synliggöra hundens behov i planering. Det empiriska materialet har undersökts i relation till teori om rätten till staden, social rättvisa och more-than-human geography. Den sistnämnda teorin utgår från djurens rätt till staden som likställd människan. Med utgångspunkt i more-than-human geography antar studien en kritisk ansats mot hur hundars behov tillgodoses i den svenska planeringen.

    Studien visar på en avsaknad av hundägares och hundars rätt till staden. Detta tar sig uttryck i hundägarens vardagliga liv som en längtan och en saknad efter att kunna tillfredsställa sin hunds behov i staden, samt genom en osäkerhet och ett motstånd i användningen av stadens offentliga rum. Uppsatsen synliggör även en social konflikt mellan hundägare och icke-hundägare. Konflikten har sitt ursprung i hundägares vilja att nyttja staden på ett annat sätt än vad som är tillåtet, vilket innebär att hundägare bryter mot hundförbud och restriktioner i syfte att tillfredsställa sin hunds behov och intressen. Uppsatsen visar på en begränsning av hundens utrymme i staden som en effekt av att människans behov står i centrum för utveckling, samt som en följd av stadens ekonomiska drivkraft. Uppsatsen argumenterar för att ge hundar mer utrymme i planering för att stärka hundägares och hundars rätt till staden, men även i syfte att minska den konflikt som existerar mellan hundägare och icke-hundägare.

    Bakgrund: Hotfulla situationer har blivit en del av sjuksköterskors vardag på somatiska akutmottagningar. Detta medför risk för att utveckla ett nedsatt psykiskt välbefinnande och att arbetsförmågan påverkas, vilket i sin tur kan påverka omvårdnaden av patienter. För att patienterna ska kunna erbjudas en patientsäker och god omvårdnad krävs det att sjuksköterskan mår bra och att arbetsplatsen är trygg. Sjuksköterskors upplevelser vid hotfulla situationer varierar och behovet av stöd är stort.

    Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva sjuksköterskors upplevelser av hotfulla situationer på en somatisk akutmottagning.

    Metod: En intervjustudie användes för att besvara syftet. Intervjuerna transkriberades och analyserades med en kvalitativ innehållsanalys beskriven av Graneheim och Lundman.

    Resultat: Resultatet ledde fram till tre kategorier: Otrygghet, frustration och trygghet.

    Slutsats: Sjuksköterskors upplevelser av hotfulla situationer kan påverka deras välbefinnande och arbetsförmåga. Detta kan i sin tur leda till att de brister i sitt omvårdnadsarbete och sin kärnkompetens säker vård. Sjuksköterskorna efterfrågade mer utbildning i hur de ska agera i hotfulla situationer och kollegorna ansågs som den mest värdefulla tryggheten.

    Bakgrund: Enligt Statens Offentliga Utredning ses vårdpersonal som en viktig resurs i all vård och omsorg. Men de har en extra stor betydelse när det gäller bemötandet av patienter med psykisk ohälsa som till exempel schizofreni. Tidigare studier har fokuserat på sjuksköterskans attityder till patienter med schizofreni, men färre studier har beskrivit hur sjuksköterskan upplever bemötandet av patienter med schizofreni.    

    Syfte: Syftet med studien var att beskriva sjuksköterskans erfarenheter av att bemöta patienter som befinner sig i den akuta fasen av schizofreni inom den psykiatriska slutenvården.

    Metod: Kvalitativ empirisk intervjustudie baserad på intervjuer med sex sjuksköterskor från två slutna psykiatriska avdelningar. Intervjuerna analyserades med innehållsanalys enligt Burnard.

    Resultat: Analysen resulterade i två kategorier; Bygga förtroendefull allians som innebär att sjuksköterskan ska uppnå en allians med patienten och bygga en relation. För detta krävs det att sjuksköterskan behöver lyssna och ha en förståelse för patienten. Sjuksköterskan behöver anpassa sina strategier och ha tålamod i bemötandet med patienterna. Tydlighet och struktur skapar trygghet som syftar på att sjuksköterskan ska vara tydlig och skapa struktur, vilket leder till en trygghet för patienten.

    Slutsats: Sjuksköterskans bemötande av en patient i den akuta fasen av schizofreni är betydande för uppbyggnaden av en allians med patienten. För att patienten ska kunna känna trygghet på avdelningen är det viktigt att sjuksköterskan visar förståelse för patienten och ser hela individen, inte bara sjukdomen. Det är sjuksköterskans ansvar att se till att miljön på avdelningen är lugn och trygg för patienten. Sjuksköterskan ska även ha ett taktiskt tillvägagångssätt i bemötandet av patienten. Det är viktigt att sjuksköterskan vårdar patienten på ett sätt som inte kränker patientens integritet.

    Abstract [en]

    How can a non-autonomous compaction roller be converted to become temporarily autonomous while it performs a 500hours endurance test? Particularlysince the compaction rollers in question is not built to be autonomous and shall not be autonomous after the endurance test is completed. The autonomous system shall also be adaptable to all compaction rollers which Dynapac is developing and shall be moved to another machine when the endurance test is completed. In this thesis a concept is engineered of how the whole autonomous system will work and a prototype is fabricated of how to convert the current manual mechanical steering to be performed by a computer. The steering prototype has been tested on a Dynapac CC4200 double drumasphalt compaction roller and worked as intended. To develop this, anextensive risk analysis is also established andwith it a requirements list of what's needed to be fulfilled when performing autonomous testing of a compaction roller. The work has been done using the method “design thinking” which is a collection of multiple methods to create new concepts and ideas. The final concept resulted in a navigation system which uses GNSS for path planning and limitation of the operation area. It also uses radar to detect foreign objects in its path to prevent a collision. Multiple systems arealso proposed to be used for malfunction detection of the roller, which is a major part of a human operator’sjob when testing out new machines. The test track for the machine was undefined and also hadto be engineeredas part of the concept. It resultedin closing the area of operation with a mesh fence to prevent access to the area from unauthorised personnel and geo-fence to prevent the machine from escaping. Access to the area is only granted to authorized personnel and only when the autonomous rolleris shut off. Due to the machines in question isn’t fully developed, theycan’t be trusted enough to have people inside the area of operation asthe autonomous machineis operating.

    This paper presents results on behavior modeling of a general purpose metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) for simulation of power electronics systems requiring accuracy both in steady state and in switching conditions. Methods of parameters extraction, including nonlinearity of parasitic capacitances and steady-state characteristics, are based on manufacturer datasheet and externally measurable characteristics. The MOSFET template is written in the MAST language and simulated in the SABER simulator. Experimental validation of the N-channel power MOSFET-type IRFP240 (Fairchild Semiconductor) rated at 20 A/200 V is performed in a dc/dc boost converter. The main features of the developed model have been compared with the properties of an analytical MOSFET model and a general MOSFET model embedded to a SABER simulator.

    Abstract [en]

    The rural development programme is a tool for promoting sustainable development in the Swedish countryside. The master plan should, for example, give directions for the national interest and describe how it will follow up national and regional targets such as the EU's environmental quality standards. Because the municipality has considerable freedom to formulate the plan in its sole discretion, and that it contains the municipality's political vision, it is also feasible to make a discourse analysis of the plan text.

    In discourse analysis, including articles and documents written by Rural Network Working Group on land use planning to be included. The purpose of discourse analysis is to see if there are differences in the way rural areas are described and if there are any flaws in how the designer interprets the rural development programme. Furthermore, the analysis result in tools that are adapted to the standards we create and choose.

    The standards we have are being designed based on our values, which differ. The standards, problems and values that are created are not always the only or best way to relate to a concept. It is that this work should take a position in the countryside. And the critical discourse analysis is used not only to examine the texts and discourses, but also to contribute to the debate on the ways and tools we should use for shaping a better society.

    - This study investigated the interplay between nursing staff stress, Mastery, Moral Sensitivity, individual characteristics and the ward atmosphere in psychiatric in-patient care. Data were collected through five questionnaires from 93 nursing staff. Multivariate analysis showed that Moral Strength, Moral Burden, Internal Demands, Perceived Stress and age were related to several factors of the ward atmosphere. We conclude that efforts to reduce stress levels and create a supporting ethical climate on psychiatric wards would be beneficial for both psychiatric nursing staff and their nursing practice. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

    Objectives: This study aimed at investigating the point prevalence of life weariness and suicidal thoughts and their relationship with socio-demographic characteristics in a population of older adults in Sweden. Method: Data from 7913 individuals aged 60 years and older were drawn from the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care, a collaborative study in Sweden. Life weariness and suicidal thoughts were measured by one item derived from the Montgomery–Åsberg Depression Rating Scale. A multinomial regression model was used to investigate the relationships of socio-demographic characteristics with life weariness and suicidal thoughts. Results: Living in urban and semi-urban areas, being of advanced age, being divorced and having lower educational levels were related to life weariness. Living in a residential care facility, being widowed or unmarried, being born in a non-Nordic European country and experiencing financial difficulties were related to both life weariness and suicidal thoughts. Sex was found to be unrelated to either life weariness or suicidal thoughts. Conclusion: This study found that several socio-demographic variables were associated with life weariness and suicidal thoughts among older adults. Specific attention to older individuals with these characteristics may be warranted as they might be more vulnerable to life weariness and suicidal thoughts. © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group

    Background:Today’s healthcare environment is often characterized by an ethically demanding worksituation, and nursing students need to prepare to meet ethical challenges in their future role. Moralsensitivity is an important aspect of the ethical decision-making process, but little is known regardingnursing students’ moral sensitivity and its possible development during nursing education.Objectives:The aims of this study were to investigate moral sensitivity among nursing students,differences in moral sensitivity according to sample sub-group, and the relation between demographiccharacteristics of nursing students and moral sensitivity.Research design:A convenience sample of 299 nursing students from one university completed aquestionnaire comprising questions about demographic information and the revised Moral SensitivityQuestionnaire. With the use of SPSS, non-parametric statistics, including logistic regression models,were used to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics and moral sensitivity.Ethical considerations:The study followed the regulations according to the Swedish Ethical Review Actand was reviewed by the Ethics Committee of South-East Sweden.Findings:The findings showed that mean scores of nursing students’ moral sensitivity were found in themiddle to upper segment of the rating scale. Multivariate analysis showed that gender (odds ratio¼3.32),age (odds ratio¼2.09; 1.73), and parental status (odds ratio¼0.31) were of relevance to nursing students’moral sensitivity. Academic year was found to be unrelated to moral sensitivity.Discussion and conclusion:These demographic aspects should be considered when designing ethicseducation for nursing students. Future studies should continue to investigate moral sensitivity in nursingstudents, such as if and how various pedagogical strategies in ethics may contribute to moral sensitivity innursing students

    Abstract [sv]

    Den här uppsatsen syftar till att undersöka föreställningar om det offentliga rummet; både generella föreställningar som inte är platsbundna, men även de föreställningar som finns om Björns trädgård på Södermalm i Stockholm. Syftet har även varit att undersöka hur dessa föreställningar materialiseras i det fysiska rummet. Björns trädgård är tillsammans med Medborgarplatsen en av Stockholms mest befolkade platser, och på den lilla ytan som utgör Björns trädgård finns en uteservering, parklek, skejtpark och moské samlade runt en stor gräsmatta. I och med dess många funktioner, läge och puls kan Björns trädgård ses om en typisk plats för möten och stadsliv, men har trots detta ett dåligt rykte. Frågorna som drivit arbetet med uppsatsen är kopplade till föreställningarna om det offentliga rummet, och hur platsen Björns trädgård kan förstås utifrån begreppet territorialitet. Hur föreställningarna rumsliggörs, det vill säga hänger ihop med territorialiteten har även undersökts. Empirin består av kommunala dokument och handlingar, observationsstudier och intervjumaterial. Materialet har analyserats med hjälp av kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Det teoretiska ramverk som legat till grund för uppsatsen är poststrukturalismen och Mattias Kärrholms begrepp Territorialitet. Områdesöversikten inleds med en redogörelse av Harveys och Lefebvres rumsbegrepp, och övriga delar i kapitlet behandlar offentliga rum ur olika perspektiv. Fallstudien har visat att de generella föreställningarna om vad ett offentligt rum är och bör vara, inte nödvändigtvis stämmer överens med de platsspecifika för Björns trädgård, samt att föreställningarna beror mycket av vem avsändaren är. De territoriella strategierna på platsen är inte överlagrade, vilket innebär att grupper med olika intressen brukar rummet sida vid sida istället för att dela på samma yta eller inta varandras territorier. Studien har även visat att föreställningarna om rummet framför allt materialiseras i form av territoriella strategier, vilket innebär att myndigheter får större kontroll och inflytande över rummet och hur det används. Appropriering kan ske där den strategiska territorialiteten är som svagast, vilket innebär större risk för att dessa ytor används på ett sätt som inte är passande eller ”attraktivt” enligt rådande normer.

    Bakgrund:Närstående är engagerade i sin familjemedlem med intellektuell funktionsnedsättnings liv, speciellt när de är i behov av vård.I vårdandet av individer med funktionsnedsättning saknas det ofta tillräcklig kompetens hos vårdgivare. Varje individ är unik och ska bemötas och vårdas därefter, i bemötandet av individer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning behöver sjuksköterskan vara respektfull, motiverande, inte vara dömande samt försöka undvika att göra individen upprörd.Familjecentrerade omvårdnaden vill involvera hela familjen och se den som en helhet.

    Syfte: Syftet var att belysa närståendes upplevelse av både sitt eget och andras vårdande gällande individer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning.

    Metod: Kvalitativ litteraturstudie utifrån vetenskapliga artiklar som analyserade med innehållsanalys inspirerad av Graneheim och Lundmans metod.

    Resultat: I resultat framgår det att närstående hade både dåliga och bra upplevelser gällande vårdandet av individer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning.Kategorierna som skapades var Upplevelsen av sin vårdande roll, Upplevelsen av vård från utomstående och Upplevelsen av sitt eget ansvaroch underkategorierna var utmaningar i vårdandet, glädje i sin vårdande roll, bristfällig kvalitet i vårdandet från utomstående, tillfredsställande stöd, viljan att ta ansvar och utmaningar i ansvarstagandet. 

    Slutsats: I resultatet framgår det att det till största del är negativa upplevelser som närstående beskriver. Det visar sig genom utmaningar och påfrestningar i vårdandet gällande individen med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning. Genom att sjuksköterskorsamtalar med närstående och ger dem utrymme att bestämma hur mycket de vill involveras i sin närståendes vård kan sjuksköterskan ge den bästa möjliga vården till både närstående och patient.

    This report considers the possibilities to build a passive house or mini-energy house within reasonable demands on manufacturers and construction firms for one of 3D House’s customers. The client has already been in contact with different manufacturers and construction firms with different demands, but with the same warranty of energy efficient materials. In this study there’s a comparison of these demands and warrants show that, even with the same stated terms of low efficient material, the transmission loss vary considerably. Especially the warrants for airtight constructions vary much.Because of the buildings shape it becomes clear that it would need very high requirement on the products and the work to meet the requirements for passive house. The shape of the house does on the other hand make sure that it's a big difference between the different products which would make it a good idea to look over the different chose.The areas there this report is in first hand how the different companies for walls because of that is an area there it's a big different between different choice and it's a big part of the climate shield. It will also have a look over what kind of windows and doors that exist that meet both the requirements for passive house and the costumer.

    Understanding the basics of radar mathematics in a simplified way, as well as the transfer from theory to practical work is important for any engineer working on radar projects. Even if the theory is known, the way from a theory to a running system can be hard, facing several problems, because the reality is limited. In two experiments, data from the radar is collected while cars are crossing the observation area of the radar.The data is then used to count the number of vehicles passing the observation area and to estimate the movement of the objects in the field of view.

    Nowadays steganographic techniques are with us and in everywhere because we are using information more and more and we need to have or transform the information as secure as possible. In these techniques we need to secure the information by encrypting (coding) and decrypting (decoding). In this thesis we propose a different coding procedure based on recursive methodology. We used image as medium for this steganographic technique. An image is splitted (coded) and merged (decoded) by recursive procedure. Our experiments show that the technique is applicable for both Gray Scale and Color images and also no need of providing a key security facility at the decoder end.

    Abstract [en]

    In wireless networks, due to limited bandwidth and packet losses, seamless and ubiquitous delivery of high-quality video streaming services is a big challenge for the operators. In order to improve the process of online video quality monitoring, the presence of no reference (NR) objective video quality assessment (VQA) methods is required. In some networks, the video decoder on the reception side adopts a mechanism in which last correctly received frame is frozen and displayed on video display terminal until the next correct frame is received. This phenomenon, employed as an error concealment technique, can cause a perceptual jerkiness on the video display terminal. In this paper, we have proposed an enhanced model of objective VQA based on the estimation of jerkiness. A study of three contemporary NR methods, used for objective VQA and online monitoring of videos, has been included along with subjective VQA tests. The subjective tests were performed for a set of video sequences with specific spatial and temporal information. The proposed NR method is based on our careful observations from the subjective test results and our main focus is to cater the effect of multiple frame freeze impairments in video steaming. Comparison with other NR methods shows that the proposed method performs better, in terms of estimating the impact of multiple frame freezing impairments, and has more affinity with the subjective test results.

    I dagens samhälle har det blivit allt vanligare att anställda upplever stress på arbetsplatsen, på grund av att de upplever för mycket ansvar och krav på sitt arbete. Syftet med examensarbete var att undersöka på vilket sätt anställda upplever att långvarig stress på arbetsplatsen kan påverka deras hälsa och hur långvarig stress kan förebyggas. Den kvalitativa datainsamlingen användes för att genomföra studien vilket var stödjande för att förtydliga deltagarnas tankar och upplevelser kring fenomenet långvarig stress. Semistrukturerade intervjuer skedde. Intervjuer skedde med tre anställda från olika företag men med samma anställnings position. För genomförandet av examensarbete valdes att använda den hermeneutiska ansatsen. Genom analysprogrammet Atlas. Ti skapades huvud - och underkategorier för redovisning av resultatet. Huvudkategorierna bestod av; Långvarig stress på arbetsplatsen, stressreaktioner inom långvarig stress, och förebyggande åtgärder. De underkategorier som skapades var trötthet, viktökning, otillräcklig, o ambitiös & omotiverad, aggressivitet/ilska, ledsen/gråtfärdig, ledighet, stöd och uppmuntran från chef och hälsosam arbetsmiljö. Resultatet visade att deltagarnas uppfattning om långvarig stress var varierande beroende på hur länge de hade arbetat. Bland den första signalen på den långvariga stressen var då deltagarna inte kände att de fick tid för vilandet och återhämtningen. Därmed stöd och uppmuntran upplevdes som väldigt positivt och en viktig åtgärd för att förebygga den långvariga stressen på arbetsplatsen.

    The urban sprawl process takes more places in the world by leaving gaps in the core of cities these days when some industrial areas have been abandoned or moved into greenfields of city periphery. A recent research has shown that most of the conversion of brownfields has done by participation process in Europe. Therefore, this movement does not have a strong basement in the post-soviet union countries, and it is becoming more fragmented and decentralized tool in the planning system where planners’ opinion still dominates. The paper analyzes the public policy in the planning system and uses the design proposal base by people’s opinions. The diploma thesis deals with how with the aid of the public participation process the development of the revitalization of brownfield projects in Vilnius can be influenced/changed. Moreover, planners started using the public opinion and participatory process in the last decade of the country existence. However, still most of the designs are made by them and still keep their strong position in the planning in Lithuania. The old school professionals are influenced by the socialistic urban developing system which has been impacted from the central government and giving all power to the planners and administration of the city. In Vilnius administrative territory, there are several regenerations and conversion projects going on. The study was focused on Markučiai and Paplauja industrial area conversion in Vilnius. The study area is “Park of Architecture” project territory, which is the biggest conversion project in Lithuanian at this moment. Inspired by the works of theorists and architects Lucien Kroll and Christopher Alexander on the participation process, they were chosen as the main guide for thesis. Therefore, the study territory is part/next to the main Vilnius city core – the old town which is a sensitive area for inhabitants of the city and country. The theoretical part is a review of the participation process and the potential of its application/use. The paper uses two analysises to get the best result for the design part. The Stakeholder analysis and case study approach are followed by interviewing the people related with the project area, looking through official “Park of Architecture” and Vilnius city developing documents, mapping and visit area. The paper indicates that the planners and public opinion are turning in a direction which is more flexible to interlocutor position and observation. However, the dominant opinion from both parts is to develop the area as part of the old town and find the connection with the natural environment. In the area, the functions have to have mixed use and to be available for the residents and visitors of the territory, as well as to the public areas, especially the quay on Vilnia river. After investigation, observation and analysis of the study area, gathered information showed that a territory between Markučiai and Paplauja has problems which are fixable and by emphasizing the opportunities and using the stakeholders’ opinions, the territory has a possibility of ecological and sustainable development. The study paper is finished with the design proposal which transforms the study area as part of the old town and the city, and makes it attractive for investment, living and working. Maybe this thesis will help other conversion and regeneration projects in Vilnius and other cities to avoid mistakes as well as will inspire to work more often with stakeholders in participatory processes.

    Older people who live in nursing homes commonly suffer from pain. Therefore, relieving suffering among older people that stems from pain demands knowledge improvement through an integration of international knowledge. This study aimed to integrate current international findings and strengthen the understanding of older people's experiences of and perspectives on pain and pain management in nursing homes. A meta-synthesis study using Noblit and Hare's interpretative meta-ethnography approach was conducted. Empirical research papers from journals were collected from various databases. The search process and appraisal determined six articles for inclusion. Two studies were conducted in the US and one each in Iceland, Norway, the UK, and Australia. The older people's experiences of pain as well as perspectives on pain management from all involved (older people, their family members, and healthcare staff) were integrated into a theoretical model using three themes of "identity of pain," "recognition of pain," and "response to pain." The metaphor of "normalizing suffering" was devised to illustrate the meaning of pain experiences and pain management in nursing homes. Society's common attitude that pain is unavoidable and therefore acceptable in old age in society among older people themselves as well as those who are responsible for reporting, acknowledging, and relieving pain-must change. The article emphasizes that pain as a primary source of suffering can be relieved, provided that older people are encouraged to report their pain. In addition, healthcare staff require sufficient training to take a person-centered approach towards assessment and management of pain that considers all elements of pain.

Mostly CCTV footages are used as post evidence after theoccurrence of crime. In many cases a person might be monitoringthe scene from CCTV but the attention can easily drift on prolongedobservation. Eciency of CCTV surveillance can be improved by in-corporation of image processing and object detection algorithms intomonitoring process.The object detection algorithms, previously implemented in CCTVvideo analysis detect pedestrians, animals and vehicles. These algo-rithms can be extended further to detect a person holding weaponslike rearms or sharp objects like knives in public or restricted places.In this work the detection of weapon from CCTV frame is acquiredby using Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) as feature vector andarticial neural networks performing back-propagation algorithm forclassication.As a weapon in the hands of a human is considered to be greaterthreat as compared to a weapon alone, in this work the detection ofhuman in an image prior to a weapon detection has been found advan-tageous. Weapon detection has been performed using three methods.In the rst method, the weapon in the image is detected directly with-out human detection. Second and third methods use HOG and back-ground subtraction methods for detection of human prior to detectionof a weapon. A knife and a gun are considered as weapons of inter-est in this work. The performance of the proposed detection methodswas analysed on test image dataset containing knives, guns and im-ages without weapon. The accuracy rate 84:6% has been achievedby a single-class classier for knife detection. A gun and a knife havebeen detected by the three-class classier with an accuracy rate 83:0%.

    Abstract [en]

    In this paper we propose a low-complexity codebook-based beamforming with four transmit antennas and quantized feedback channel. The codebook design aggregates the effect of power allocation and phase rotation through a simple quantized transmit scheme. The codebook-based beamforming uses the feedback information in order to maximize the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the receiver. As a result, the proposed scheme presents an array gain. An SNR analysis is performed and it is used to find the optimal feedback information in the sense of maximizing the instantaneous SNR. A bit error rate (BER) analysis for a quantized feedback channel is also derived and it is used to compare to the results obtained for the proposed scheme under different levels of quantization. Simulations are performed over quasi-static flat Rayleigh fading channels for different closed-loop codebook-based schemes with four transmit antennas and unitary transmission rate. Results illustrate that the proposed scheme achieves full diversity order and outperforms other good schemes in terms of array gain.

    Abstract [en]

    It is estimated that 65 million people worldwide have epilepsy, and many of them have uncontrollable seizures even with the use of medication. A seizure occurs when the normal electrical activity of the brain is interrupted by sudden and unusually intense bursts of electrical energy, and these bursts can be observed and detected by the use of an electroencephalograph (EEG) machine. This work presents an algorithm that monitors subtle changes in scalp EEG characteristics to predict seizures. The algorithm is built to calibrate itself to every specifc patient based on recorded data, and is computationally effcient enough for future on-line applications. The presented algorithm performs ICA-based artifact filtering and Lasso-based feature selection from a large array of statistical features. Classification is based on a neural network using Bayesian regularized backpropagation.The selected method was able to classify 4 second long preictal segments with an average sensitivity of 99.53% and an average specificity of 99.9% when tested on 15 different patients from the CHB-MIT database.

    Detta kandidatarbete undersöker hur kommuner med en krympande befolkning hanterar miljökvalitetsmålet god bebyggd miljö i deras översiktsplaner. Arbetet utfördes genom en kvalitativ textanalys på tre översiktsplaner från Arjeplog, Hofors och Jokkmokk, och försöker besvara tre frågor; Hur beskrivs befolkningsutvecklingen? vad anser kommunen är en god bebyggd miljö? Och vilka konsekvenser har dessa två delar? I till exempel Arjeplog kommun beskrivs befolkningsutvecklingen som en stor utmaning mot kommunens framtida utveckling, och att det är svårare att vända trenden på grund av de relativa höga priserna på villor. I Hofors kommun fokuserar arbetet med en god bebyggd miljö på kollektivtrafik och pendlingsmöjligheter. Jokkmokk kommun presenterar inga tydliga konsekvenser av sina ställningstaganden.  En slutsats som dras är att definitionen av god bebyggd miljö är olika i kommunerna eftersom de behöver utgå från sina egna förutsättningar och problem. En annan slutsats är att det behövs en kompetensutveckling inom social hållbarhet, med anledningen att både god bebyggd miljö och social hållbarhet inkluderar liknande koncept och idéer.

    In the Brainport region, many different projects take place in the framework of EU co-financed programmes and initiatives. Between the different programmes and initiatives, these projects all have a different way to contribute to this development. Firstly, all projects contribute to the activities of organisations in the region. The subsidy that is linked to the projects gives the organisations in the region extra financial capacity, which allows organisations to do something extra besides their regular activities. The relations within Brainport are also very much developed with contributions of the projects of the EU programmes and initiatives. The projects in all programmes had an emphasis on connecting different organisations with each other and the development of new ecosystems. Therefore, especially the network dimension is developed thanks to the EU co-financed projects. The institutions in the region are almost undeveloped by the projects, because the projects have a duration period that is too small to contribute to this. Although some projects instigate the development of knowledge, this is to a far smaller degree than the instigation of entrepreneurial activities, because knowledge is used in the project as a means to do entrepreneurial activities.

While many argue against the technology-driven and top-down nature of the Smart Citymodel, the bottom-up component is often appointed as the deciding factor in the determinationwhether a Smart City can be successful and contributing to its set goals, or rather resulting in an effortharming the city and its citizens in the long run. This thesis set out to explore the bottom-upcomponent in one of the most revered and most bottom-up Smart Cities of the world, Amsterdam.Remarkably, the research has proven that Amsterdam Smart City, even though it is often seen as oneof the good examples, suffers from the same issues.     Abstract [en]

    Innovation processes have been researched abundantly from a conceptual and process perspective on the emergence of innovations. Contemporary innovation processes are said to lack consideration of the resource side, even though innovation is very much a human driven process.

     

    One exposed gap in the literature is the importance of self-perception of the actors in such process. By means of a single case study this research brings a first insight into the importance of self-perception of the actors in the open innovation process, on the completion of the innovation process. Social behavioural models and theories related to self-perception creation and alteration have been explored through a literature review. Additionally, the required human characteristics for successful innovation according to the literature has been documented. By means of semi-structured interviews data was collected at an SME to validate the theories applicability in an innovation process environment and amend missing knowledge.

     

    Analysis showed that a growth mindset and self-efficacy are the most important factors to keep in mind when establishing innovation teams. Other self-perception aspects such as mental discomfort from cognitive dissonance and self-discrepancy had no impact on successful innovation.

    We are living in the “Anthropocene” the era in which human activities are responsible for severe damage to the resilience of the ecological and social systems, undermining the Earth’s autopoetic mechanism, integrity and ability to function as a healthy complex adaptive systems. The prevailing societal paradigm for business practices has yet to realise the reality of our current global unsustainable state – and the shift necessary to move us forward collectively. Startup companies have a unique opportunity to gain and leverage competitiveness and attractiveness for funding and customers through sustainability driven business strategies, models and value propositions.

    This research analyses literature, document and interview data to explore if and how current practices in the Lean Startup contribute to a sustainable society – and how a Strategic Sustainable Development approach might be introduced to enhance the resilience of Lean Startups.

    Therefore, our key recommendations for Lean Startups that want to introduce an SSD approach are: to raise awareness about the sustainability challenges and opportunities; utilise backcasting towards a vision framed by the Sustainability Principles; focus on fulfilling fundamental basic Human Needs; utilize strategic prioritization questions when pivoting and combine the FSSD ABCD process with the Lean BML cycle. Ultimately, this thesis proposes the use of Strategic Sustainable Trigger Questions to (re)design sustainable business models and value-propositions.

    We conclude that “asking the right questions - rather than giving answers up front” might spark conversations and innovations in Lean Startups, beneficial for the sustainability of both the individual startup the larger socio-ecological systems.

    Abstract [en]

    Three dimensional image processing and analysis, particularly, the imaging and reconstruction of an environment in three dimensions  has received significant attention, interest and concern  during the recent years. In the light of this background, this research study intends to provide an efficient way to reconstruct an irregular surfaced object, for example "the sole of a shoe", with good precision at a low cost using XBOX Kinect V2.0 sensor. Three dimensional reconstruction can be achieved either by using active or passive methods. Active methods make use of light source such as lasers or infra-red emitters for scanning a given environment and measuring the depth, to create a depth map. In contrast, in passive methods, colour images of the environment in different perspectives are used to create a three dimensional model of the environment. In this study, an active method using a set of depth maps of the object of interest is implemented, where the object of interest is represented by a sole of a shoe. Firstly, a set of depth maps of the object of interest are acquired in different perspectives. The acquired depth maps are first pre-processed for removing any outliers in the data acquired and are then enhanced. Enhanced depth maps are converted into 3D point clouds using the intrinsic parameters of the Kinect sensor. These obtained point clouds are subsequently registered into a single position using the Iterative Closest Point(ICP) algorithm. Aligned point clouds of the object of interest are then merged to form a single dense point cloud of the object of interest. Analysis of the generated single dense point cloud has shown that accurate 3D reconstruction of the real object of the interest has been achieved.

    An equation is obtained that describes the nonlinear diffraction of a focused wave in a half-space starting from the wave source, then through the focus region up to the far zone, where the wave becomes spherically divergent. In contrast to the Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya equation (KZ), which contains two spatial variables, the calculation of the field on the beam axis is reduced to a simpler one-dimensional problem. Integral relations that are useful for numerical calculation are indicated. The profiles of a periodic wave harmonic at the input to the medium are constructed. A comparison with the results of a numerical solution of problems based on KZ is made, which revealed a good accuracy of the approximate model. The passage of a wave through the focus region, accompanied by the formation of shock fronts, diffraction phase shifts and asymmetric distortion of regions of different polarity, is traced.
