    Abstract [en]

    Impact hammer is the current modal testing way in Dynapac testing department. Due to highly damped characteristic of big construction machines, there are a few weaknesses for modal testing when using hammer, such as short response time, limited frequency resolution, poor quality of frequency response functions. Therefore, a more advanced excitation equipment is needed to improve the measurement quality.

    The object for this study is to compare two different measuring methods. The thesis will show a comparison between the hammer testing and the shaker MIMO testing compared with analytical model in a highly damped system. It will also give a reference for further highly damped modal analysis and budgetary assessment to decide the budget expenditure.

    Result from shaker testing shows a little better correlation than hammer testing compared with FEM model. While the correlation between FEM model and measurement is bad due to many reasons, such as many local modes that can not excited, lack of excitation points, unexpected noise and error from the measurement. While considering the compared results obtained from this machine for now, a simpler structure experiment is suggested to be carried on in the future. Shorter length of stinger can be used to enable higher amplitude of force to excite the property on this machine.

Acoustic measurements were performed in semi anechoicchamber and open site using the setup specified by ECE R28 document.

    Abstract [en]

    This product presents the design of a useful multi-functional adjustable table. It will bring great convenience to people with disability who spend most of time in bed, so as to meet their daily needs.

    Since there are already many similar products on the market, we focused on updating the functions on table, which can help people reading books or using tablet PC on beds in a comfortable way. It can also support people to stand up and walk around. There is a C-clamp fixing the product consolidated to bed. Besides, the hydraulic and micro-computer systems are used to adjust the table into a proper height automatically.

    The whole structure was designed in Autodesk Inventor 2015, and the simulation, test, analysis experiments were made in Abaqus 6.1.2 to ensure its safety and stability.

    In addition, this design can be an incentive for the improvement of the auxiliary equipment, highlighting the importance of the development of mechanisms for the healthcare.

    As is known to all, the aging problem becomes more and more serious in recent years. The issues “get into and out of a chair”, from one of the self-care tasks of aging people named Functional mobility in ADLs (Activity of daily livings), need to be solved carefully in efficient ways to help seniors and patients who have physical problems dealing with their daily life.

    In this previous investigation, the existing products in the market are normally quite heavy and importable. After combined with the advantages of the existing products and some improvements in portability and comfort which is related to human engineering. A Pneumatic Cushion for Supporting Standing and Sitting Process, based on airbag and pneumatic system which has been designed in this thesis, can be used by user who has physical-trouble for standing up and sitting down. Meanwhile, after being assembled with some specific extra components, it can be used as a mobility aid device.

    For the whole designing process, many relevant article, video sources and websites are referred for the previous researches, including Google Scholar, BTH Digital Library and YouTube. The product was designed and analysed in Inventor 2018 and the fluid dynamic simulation has been done in Abaqus. Studies involved lifting function are selected after the survey about assist appliance and aid appliance market.

    Urban Nightscape and Nightscape Lighting Analysis and Evaluations on Typical Nightscape Cases in Nanjing2014Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years))Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    A city’s nightscape can be treated as a re-introduction of the city during the night. Due to the development of city economy and citizens’ leisure life, people are paying more attention to their nightlife. With appropriate lighting design and illumination systems, a city can draw very impressive pictures as its ‘identification card’ to the whole world. Recently, more and more Chinese cities have also started to attach importance to nightscape. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hongkong, as the biggest Chinese cities, have already made notable progress since 1980s. This leads more and more Chinese cities put nightscape design into their urban planning and urban design process. However, as a new subject, nightscape is usually treated as a topic which belongs to urban planning or illumination technology. Few of the recent studies on nightscape in China are done from the scope of urban design. Due to the lack of multidisciplinary studies on nightscape, some Chinese cities mistreated nightscape as simply lighting the urban spaces up with bright lights. This misunderstanding brings up a nightscape fever and makes some Chinese cities jump into a brightness competition. This thesis aims to make some contributions for the studies on nightscape from the scope of urban design. To achieve that aim, this thesis has three main research questions: 1. How could a typology of nightscape in Chinese cities be constructed based on available literature and the practical situation in Nanjing? 2. What are the strongpoints and shortcomings of the nightscape in the chosen cases in Nanjing? 3. This paper sets out to address a series of strategies in nightscape design which can be applied in different types of urban public spaces in Chinese cities. The final goal of this thesis is to achieve a series of strategies about urban public spaces’ nightscape design. This thesis studies on the available literatures and Chinese official documents about urban nightscape to make a conclusion of the definition of nightscape. A typology of nightscape in Chinese cities is constructed by combining existing theories about urban open spaces with municipal regulations about nightscape lighting in Nanjing. This thesis uses graphic analysis, urban night space evaluations and interviews to figure out the strongpoints and shortcomings of the nightscape in the chosen cases in Nanjing. And at last, a series of strategies are addressed for the future nightscape designs based on the theoretical studies and sites analyses.

    Simulation a Disposable mass flow meter by an advanced FSI Modeling and Finite Element Analysis.2014Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract -In this thesis a design of a Coriolis mass flow-meter is chosen by considering all advantages and disadvantages and the project requirements. The chosen geometry is imported into COMSOL, because modelling is implemented by FEM and two different physics should be coupled. To consider both applications of the device include measuring density and flow rate, modeling is divided into two parts: Coriolis density meter and Coriolis mass flow-meter. Both applications are based on Fluid Structure Interaction. The results are compared to existing setup’s experimental data.     Dynamic signature verification is a very interesting biometric issue. It is difficult to realize because signatures of the user are characterized by relatively high intra-class and low inter-class variability. However, this method of an identity verification is commonly socially acceptable.

    It is a big advantage of the dynamic signature biometric attribute. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid algorithm for the dynamic signature verification based on global and regional approach. We present the simulation results of the proposed method for BioSecure DS2 database, distributed by the BioSecure Association.

    Många kustnära svenska städer riskerar att drabbas av framtida klimatförändringar, men framförallt stigande havsnivåer, något som ska beaktas och tas hänsyn till i den fysiska planeringen. Men hur? Parallellt med detta pågår stadsomvandlingar, med bland annat nybyggnation i kust- och vattennära områden, för att skapa en attraktiv kommun där folk vill bosätta sig och bo kvar. Den fysiska planeringen präglas , å andra sidan, av en osäkerhet kring hur anpassning till ett förändrat klimat, och särskilt stigande havsnivåer, ska gå till fastän det på den lokala nivån finns medvetenhet om detta. Denna uppsats syftar till att öka kunskapen kring hur klimatfrågor, i synnerhet risker med stigande havsnivåer, hanteras i den fysiska planeringen, genom att undersöka hur detta har behandlats i detaljplanering av tre planområden i Norra Älvstranden i Göteborg.

    För att undersöka syftet har en fallstudie gjorts över tre planområden i Norra Älvstranden, med en kvalitativ dokumentstudie som metod. Detaljplan, med tillhörande plankarta och planbeskrivning för respektive planområde, har ingått i fallstudien. Vidare har Plan- och bygglagen, Boverket och Länsstyrelsen studerats i enighet med uppsatsens syfte. Dessa har undersökts enligt följande analysfrågor som lyder: Hur hanterar lagar och regler samt riktlinjer på nationell nivå klimatfrågor i den fysiska planeringen, mer specifikt i detaljplanering? Var och i vilken utsträckning behandlar detaljplanerna klimatfrågor, framförallt stigande havsnivåer? Hur beskriver detaljplanerna synen på vattnet? Hur hanteras bebyggelsen när det gäller: a) lägsta golvnivå för färdigt golv? b) avstånd till vattnet?

    Diskussionen i uppsatsen görs utifrån teoretiska utgångspunkter som har sin grund i hur den fysiska planeringen hanterar risker med klimatfrågor i dagens samhälle med den ökade globaliseringen och den tekniska utvecklingen, också kallad för ett risksamhälle. Begrepp som robusthet, ett robust samhälle, experternas roll och expertkunskap diskuteras.

    Att dagens klimatförändringar är orsakade av mänskliga aktiviteter är något många forskare diskuterar idag. Det innebär att vi ska möta dess konsekvenser, inte minst inom den fysiska planeringen. Risker med stigande havsnivåer är något som de flesta av kustnära svenska städer möts av redan idag. Norra Älvstranden i Göteborg ligger vid Göta Älv och dessutom i en låglänt terräng. Området, som tidigare har varit ett hamnområde, har successivt omvandlats till ett attraktivt bostadsområde med blandade aktiviteter. Av de granskade detaljplanerna går det att se en medvetenhet om klimatriskerna i detaljplaneringen. Planerna föreslår åtgärder för att anpassa bebyggelsen inför kommande klimatförändringar, exempelvis höjs den lägsta grundläggningsnivån. Å andra sidan går det läsa hur synen på vatten kvarblir som ett viktigt element i planeringen. Sammanfattningsvis kan det konstateras att det finns en ganska oföränderlig syn på hur klimatfrågorna i detaljplaneringen ska behandlas.

    Abstract [en]

    Context: In service planning, indicators such as incidence can aid the development of strategies for service provision. The current systematic review was carried out to provide a general viewpoint on incidence, geographical and age distribution of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers in Iran.

    Evidence Acquisition: A detailed Science Direct, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Iran Medex, Magiran and SID (scientific information databases) search was made from 2005 to 2015. The basic inclusion criteria were all relevant studies focused on GI cancers incidence and epidemiologic data from Iran.

    Results: Overall incidence of cancer was 19.4 and 17.2 per 100 000 in males and females, respectively. The three most common GI cancers in males were: esophagus, stomach and colorectal and in females: colorectal, stomach and esophagus. The highest incidence rate was observed in Golestan province and in the age group over 65 years.

    Conclusions: According to increasing incidence rate of GI cancers in Iran, development, establishment and implement of comprehensive national cancer control program should be the first priorities for health policy makers.

    Bemötande är ett ämnesområde som är väldigt centralt för omsorgen av äldre. Det är en företeelse som sker då vårdgivare och vårdtagare möter varandra. En viktig aspekt som bör belysas är utveckling av bemötande. Att ta reda på hur vårdgivaren upplever att den utvecklar sitt bemötande kan belysa på vilka sätt ett bemötande kan utvecklas och förbättras. Syftet med studien är att undersöka vårdgivares upplevelse av hur de utvecklar bemötandet och lär att bemötandet utgör påverkan på vårdtagares hälsofrämjande i omsorgsarbetet. Analysen och tolkningen gjordes utifrån åtta intervjuer där alla respondenterna hade erfarenhet av yrket. Tolkningen skedde med hjälp av hermeneutisk ansats för att få en djupare förståelse för svaren. Resultatet av studien visade att vårdgivaren upplevde att denne lär sig genom att bemöta varje unik individ samt anpassa sig efter varje situation och erfara varje unikt möte med vårdtagaren. Lärandet skedde även genom att kommunicera med vårdtagare i mötet men även med arbetskamrater som bidrog till lärande och därmed bemötandeutveckling, vårdgivaren lärde sig även att bemötandet påverkar vårdtagarens hälsofrämjande genom att vårdtagaren aktivt visade det genom sin kommunikation.

    A Customer Aimed Market Analysis for an Innovative Lifting Equipment2014Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    This report focuses on three parts which are market research, marketing- and sales strategies, and product development for a start-up company in Italy called ARS Meccanica Dolomiti and their new product, Quikky. The main objective was to find a strategy which the company could use to attract customers. In the market research both potential customers and competitors were identified. Similar products that could be a threat for the product were also investigated. Most of the information came through own research via Internet. However, a visit to the CeMAT fair in Hannover was also helpful since potential customers, competitors and other partners were gathered at the same place. The main results from this research are that there are a lot of potential customers for the product. The reason for this is that it was discovered that the product could be used in different application areas, resulting in a broader market for the product. However, there are many competitors since the product is mostly directed towards the lifting industry which is already an attractive market. As for the product development it was early recognised that the product could be designed in many different ways. Both mini Quikky and symmetric Quikky, which are two new versions of the original Quikky, could be new products that the company could sell. By having several versions of the product, the company can more easily attract customers.

    This study aims to identify challenges and opportunities for implementation of sustainability-oriented decision support in product development. A literature review and interviews with field experts were performed. Most methods/tools designed to support sustainability considerations in product development have a low level of implementation. A lack of the full scope of sustainability and poor practical applicability might be reasons. Implementation could be improved by amending these deficiencies. Another opportunity is to integrate sustainability aspects in methods/tools that are often already implemented in companies. A low-hanging fruit can be to focus on the area of risk management together with defining sustainability criteria.

    Fuzzy Set Theory Applied to Make Medical Prognoses for Cancer Patients2014Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    As we all know the classical set theory has a deep-rooted influence in the traditional mathematics. According to the two-valued logic, an element can belong to a set or cannot. In the former case, the element’s membership degree will be assigned to one, whereas in the latter case it takes the zero value. With other words, a feeling of imprecision or fuzziness in the two-valued logic does not exist. With the rapid development of science and technology, more and more scientists have gradually come to realize the vital importance of the multi-valued logic. Thus, in 1965, Professor Lotfi A. Zadeh from Berkeley University put forward the concept of a fuzzy set. In less than 60 years, people became more and more familiar with fuzzy set theory. The theory of fuzzy sets has been turned to be a favor applied to many fields. The study aims to apply some classical and extensional methods of fuzzy set theory in life expectancy and treatment prognoses for cancer patients. The research is based on real-life problems encountered in clinical works by physicians. From the introductory items of the fuzzy set theory to the medical applications, a collection of detailed analysis of fuzzy set theory and its extensions are presented in the thesis. Concretely speaking, the Mamdani fuzzy control systems and the Sugeno controller have been applied to predict the survival length of gastric cancer patients. In order to keep the gastric cancer patients, already examined, away from the unnecessary suffering from surgical operation, the fuzzy c-means clustering analysis has been adopted to investigate the possibilities for operation contra to nonoperation. Furthermore, the approach of point set approximation has been adopted to estimate the operation possibilities against to nonoperation for an arbitrary gastric cancer patient. In addition, in the domain of multi-expert decision-making, the probabilistic model, the model of 2-tuple linguistic representations and the hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTS) have been utilized to select the most consensual treatment scheme(s) for two separate prostate cancer patients. The obtained results have supplied the physicians with reliable and helpful information. Therefore, the research work can be seen as the mathematical complements to the physicians’ queries.

    Apart from the probabilistic model and the model of 2-tuple linguistic representations, a new extension of the fuzzy set, known as the hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set can be seen as the third representative of linguistic approaches. In this paper, we focus on multi-expert decision-making problems, in which a group of physicians are independently asked for assessing the effectiveness of a set of treatment therapies. Our goal is to rank the effectiveness of treatment modalities from the most recommended to the contraindicated. Two individual prostate cancer patients have been taken into account in the practical studies. For the first patient, the probabilistic model and the model of 2-tuple linguistic representations have been adopted to accomplish the medical application. Whereas, for the second patient, the approach of hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set has been used to make the medication prognoses. Moreover, the continuous fuzzy numbers in the Left-Right representations are used to mathematically express the experts’ judgments and s-parametric membership functions are designed to represent the fuzzy linguistic terms.

    Abstract [en]

    In this work, a packaging laminate consisting of LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene), Alfoil (Aluminum foil) is focused, and failure due to necking in substrates and interfacial delamination under loading are considered. A coupled elasto-plasticity damage and fracture constitutive model is combined. The proposed constitutive model is incorporated into the FEM code ABAQUS and utilized to simulate a uniaxial tension in the laminate with an interfacial pre-crack. The simulation results show deformation of the laminate agrees well with theoretical results. The new combined constitutive model is proper to study the failure due to necking and interfacial delamination in the laminate. And the interfacial delamination mode in pre-crack tip could be influenced by fracture toughness ratio of mode I, II.

    Abstract [en]

    Necking and delamination, appear due to loading in packaging materials, consisting of LDPE, Al-foil, adhesive layer, etc. These have significant negative influence on properties of packaging materials. However, how the mechanism influences is still unclear enough and there is no appropriate research tool available to study it.

    We are intend to develop an FEM model about it. It will work as a robust numerical analysis tool for further research.

    Abstract [en]

    In this study, laminated composites consisting of LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene), Al-foil (Aluminum foil)and an adhesive interface layer is focused. The defects like necking in LDPE, Al-foil layer and interfacial delaminationcan significantly impact the loading capacity of the laminated material. However, the influence mechanisms of thedefects are still unclear, and no appropriate research tool is available. Therefore, the FEM model based on alreadyavailable techniques in ABAQUS is developed in this work. A coupled elasto-plasticity damage constitutive model, based on Hooke’s Law, the J2 yield criterion,isotropic hardening, associated flow-rule and ductile damage model, is formulated to demonstrate necking behaviorof substrates. In ABAQUS, three modelling techniques, namely VCCT, Cohesive Element, and XFEM, have been usedto simulate interfacial delamination.     Brush seals are contact seals which are efficient and reliable and can beused in any rotatory machinery. A theoretical model of a brush seal wassuggested and used for a simulation study. Comparison between the resultsof the experiment and simulation is used to verify the accuracy of model.Following the basic simulation steps, more simulation will be done to geta further analysis. The further analysis will be studied in bristles’ bucklingcharacteristics, deformation and stress. The buckling, stress anddeformation is related to the brush seal’s performance. This work givesthe different geometry of bristle’s effect to its buckling characteristics andthe study of stress and deformation caused by fluid flow across bristlesduring operation.

    Abstract [en]

    Nowadays, almost all existing wheelchairs have the problem that they only satisfy the disabled people to use for normal moving and transportation. A new wheelchair with a gear system guide rail which installed in the car is presented in this paper. The gear guide rail system will transport the whole wheelchair and person on it into the car. This wheelchair system will help people with disability whatever passengers or drivers to get into cars automatically. In this paper, the operation and the strength will be analysed through 3D model and theoretical calculations. Surveying to Swedish market, Volvo XC60 and V60 is chosen to design the size of the wheelchair. Besides, this new wheelchair system also can be suitable for the cars which are larger than those two car models.

    A wheelchair with a gear system was designed and analysed in order to find a good solution for people with wheelchair to move into the car. This gear system has been designed to be installed in the car and the whole wheelchair can be moved into the car automatically even with the people on it. The three dimensional design have been done in a CAD commercial program with this the solid mechanics analysis was also performed. Volvo XC 60 and V60 as well as a foldable wheelchair have been chosen in this work.

    Abstract [en]

    This report presents the development of a dynamic temperature model for an

    automatic transmission in a Volvo Cars passenger vehicle. The model should

    simulate the oil to cooler temperature and flow from the transmission. A mathematical

    approach to use lumped masses for different parts of the transmission

    was used. To tune the response of the lumped masses and heat transfer coefficients;

    temperature measurements were done on a vehicle in a chassis dyno.

    To verify the model, simple drive cycles were performed with temperature measurement

    in the same chassis dyno and on the same vehicle.

    The verification on the model shows that the model can simulate the behavior

    of a transmission with an error of 2.5 °C during normal behavior and 6.5 °C for

    a few minutes when a sudden change in the temperature from the cooler have a

    large transient increase.

    Because of this, the model is considered to be fairly accurate. However, in order

    to make the model compatible with Volvo Cars existing simulation software, Vsim, a "cooler model" has to be created.

    Abstract [en]

    Data shows that elderly people are more likely to live alone than younger people, meanwhile the percentage of elderly people with disabilities increases significantly with age. These trends and facts bring a number of issues. One of these we would like to solve is that it is difficult and dangerous for them to lift the heavy loads through ladder. Sometimes it is also very dangerous for normal people, not to mention to people with reduced mobility.

    In order to solve these issues and reduce the possibility of accident, we have come up with a new ladder used for attics that can transport the heavy loads automatically.

    As transmission part we use a rack and pinion mechanism to achieve a   smooth transport and a ratchet mechanism for stopper to avoid sudden accident drops.  The ladder also can be hidden when not using it.

    Abstract [en]

      The walker is regarded as a promising solution to provide additional support to maintain balance or stability while walking for elderly people. Significant assistance in improving mobility technology have been observed from literature review. However, the walkers available in the market is possible to optimize in design and include additional functionality, including getting out of the seat at home with caregiver aid, emergency care aided system. Considering falling down is a public healthcare problem, we designed the emergency aided system to rescue them [1].

      In this paper, we proposed a multiple function elderly mobility and emergency aid system, was developed and modelled by Inventor 2015, and finite element analysis. Simulation was then created to get the value of safety factor, and make comparison base on the results from structural calculation. Finally, the application of few features of the improved walker was illustrated.

    Abstract [en]

    In-home health care services based on the Internet-of-Things are promising to resolve the challenges caused by the ageing of population. But the existing research is rather scattered and shows lack of interoperability. In this article, a business-technology codesign methodology is proposed for cross-boundary integration of in-home health care devices and services. In this framework, three key elements of a solution (business model, device and service integration architecture and information system integration architecture) are organically integrated and aligned. In particular, a cooperative Health-IoT ecosystem is formulated, and information systems of all stakeholders are integrated in a cooperative health cloud as well as extended to patients’ home through the inhome health care station (IHHS). Design principles of the IHHS includes the reuse of 3C platform, certification of the Health Extension, interoperability and extendibility, convenient and trusted software distribution, standardised and secured electrical health care record handling, effective service composition and efficient data fusion. These principles are applied to the design of an IHHS solution called iMedBox. Detailed device and service integration architecture and hardware and software architecture are presented and verified by an implemented prototype. The quantitative performance analysis and field trials have confirmed the feasibility of the proposed design methodology and solution.

    Noise reduction in whisper speech based on the auditory masking model2010Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents the issue of whispered speech enhancement. Based on multi-band spectral subtraction method where the introduced musical residual noise occurs, the proposed approach performs parametric subtraction according to the WSS (Whispered Sensitive Scale) method that is particular for whispered speech processing and auditory masking model. The algorithm is characterized by a tradeoff mechanism between the amount of the whispered speech distortion, noise reduction, and the level of musical residual noise, which are determined by appropriate adjusting the subtraction parameters. Compared with traditional subtractive-type algorithms, the proposed method results in a significant reduction of musical residual noise. Finally, objective and subjective evaluations are implemented illustrating the improvements over traditional subtractive-type algorithms.

For example, automatic mahjong machine in China. Inspired by the automatic mahjong machine, we propose to add some devices on the billiard table to achieve sorting balls automatically. It includes recognition system, ball-separating system, and sorting system. We use Autodesk Inventor 2012 to model the billiards table. Some complex calculations and nonlinear analysis are completed by Matlab. Through our method, we can achieve the purpose of sorting balls automatically.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis is done by two students from Blekinge Institute of Technology as an end of the master of engineering program with emphasis on applied mechanics. The thesis is done in cooperation with Axis Communications AB in Lund which develop surveillance cameras. The task was to design and implement an Angular Vibration Testing Equipment. Axis needs this to test their surveillance cameras for angular vibrations. These vibrations occur usually on cameras located on poles placed at roads and at train stations. The thesis has been carried out in three different phases where the first phase handled a deeper understanding of the problem, planning and investigating of related works. Axis has a solution for smaller cameras called Shakespeare MK I and this was used as an inspiration for us. The second phase included concept generation and concept evaluation. This has been done with brainstorming, workshop and concept scoring. At the last phase a prototype was built and tested and a detailed design was made. Two versions of the prototype were made and they showed that the concept works well. The project resulted in a working prototype that can transform linear motion to rotation around two axes. A drawing and a cost calculation were made for the final concept. The final construction is still not completely optimized and has improvement and adjustment possibilities that might be needed.

    Abstract [en]

    MRI image (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) as a universal body checkup method in modern medicine. It can help doctors to analyze the condition of patients as soon as possible. As the medical images, the MRI images have high quality and a large amount of data, which requires more transmission time and larger storage capacity.

    To reduce transmission time and storage capacity, the compression and decompression technology is applied. Now most MRI images are colour, but most theses still use gray MRI images to research. Compressed color MRI images is a new research area.

    In this thesis, some basic theories of the compression technoloy and medical technology were firstly introduced, then basic strcture and kernel algorithm of Huffman coding were explained in detail. Finally, Huffman coding was implemented in MATLAB to compress and decompress the colour MRI images.The result of the experiment shows that the Huffman coding in colour MRI image compression can get high compression ratio and coding efficient.

    This Master Thesis hinges on the concept of Innovation and its association with regional development as a phenomenon that has attracted both researchers and policy makers’ attention.  The thesis presents two different innovation perspectives on regional development – Innovation Systems and Complex Systems of Innovation, and applies them into the case-study of the Life Sciences Cluster in Lund.

    In order to do so, the key aspects of each of the perspectives are highlighted within the part devoted to the Framework of this thesis. Within these, the networks between organizations in the Innovation Systems and the actors and their interrelations in the Complex Systems perspective have been analyzed.

    The analysis of these aspects brings up similar outcomes in both perspectives applied, i.e. the creation of various organizations within the Cluster. Both of the perspectives account for the importance of Lund University for the creation of these organizations and subsequent development of the Life Sciences cluster.

    Syftet var att kartlägga arbetstillfredsställelsen hos chefer i svensk äldreomsorg samt undersöka om det fanns några skillnader mellan chefer i privat och offentlig verksamhet. En rikstäckande webbenkätundersökning (N=104) genomfördes. Denna genererade både kvantitativ och kvalitativ data. Cheferna som sammantagen grupp visar på en förhållandevis hög arbetstillfredsställelse. Resultatet visade dock att det fanns signifikanta skillnader mellan privata och offentliga chefer vad gäller arbetstillfredsställelse. En högre grad av arbetstillfredsställelse kunde utläsas bland cheferna inom den privata sektorn. Utav totalt nio variabler kopplade till arbetstillfredsställelse, var det endast tre som inte påvisade signifikanta skillnader mellan sektorerna. Dessutom var det fyra av totalt åtta variabler tillhörande hygienfaktorer som uppvisade signifikant skillnad mellan sektorerna. När det gällde förutsättningar för att känna arbetstillfredsställelse, uttryckte de flesta vikten av att ha förtroende från medarbetare och ledning som det mest betydelsefulla. Eftersom vårt resultat visar på signifikanta skillnader mellan sektorerna föreslår vi ytterligare forskning för att få mer förståelse för detta fenomen. The aim of this study was to measure the job satisfaction of managers in Swedish elderly care, and examine whether there were any differences between managers in the private and public sectors. A nationwide online survey (N=104) was executed. This generated both quantitative and qualitative data. Managers as an overall group seem to be relatively satisfied in their job situations. The results however showed that there were distinct differences between private and public managers in terms of job satisfaction. A higher degree of job satisfaction could be seen among managers in the private sector. Of a total of nine variables related to job satisfaction, only three did not show significant differences between the sectors. Moreover, four out of eight variables related to hygiene-factors did show significant differences between the sectors. Regarding the prerequisites for experiencing job satisfaction, most of the respondents expressed the importance of having confidence from employees and management. Since our results show significant differences between the sectors, we suggest further research to investigate the area more thoroughly.

    With more than half of the worlds population living in urban areas and a great increasing to be expected in the coming decades, we need to develop our approach to planning urban environments. The public space will probably have to be used by a greater concentration of people, and it is therefore necessary to be able to ensure that our public spaces meets people’s demands. In this thesis I want to see if Urban Farming can help to improve the urban life in public areas. An approach is taken to view urban farming from a perspective where the food production is not in focus, but rather how it can create an opportunity for social interaction for people, both participants and observers. This is because, according to my theoretical perspective can promote urban life and the process of social sustainability. Through a study of previous research and literature on the subject can previous experiences of urban farmings social impacts and relation to the public life be distinguished. Three interviews have been conducted, all with different actors related to urban farming, in order to form a picture of how the working with urban farming occurs and own experiences from different levels of the society. In the thesis is also a conceptual design proposal included. The design area is located in Hallonbergen, Sweden. To form an understanding for the public life in the area a survey of the inhabitants assumptions of their neighborhood and analysis have been performed. It is concluded that the inhabitants in Hallonbergen experiences several social problems in their habitat. In relation to experiences from the literature and the expert interviews, it can be concluded that it is highly likely that a urban farming would be to the benefit of social interaction between the tenants. Which according to the theories will improve the urban life in public places. In the process of social sustainability is key factors defined, social equity and community sustainability. The research can conclude that previous experiences and research indicates that urban farming can have a strong impact on these. Conclusions of the thesis hopes to bring a new perspective on the effects from urban farming, where an understanding of the social qualities can be at the center instead of food production.

    Offentligt styrd planering påstås ha mindre resurser än tidigare och förespråkas därför i allt större utsträckning samarbeta med näringsliv för att uppnå gemensamma mål om tillväxt, attraktivitet och konkurrens; samt för att mobilisera gemensamma resurser. Detta har beskrivits som att en maktförskjutning skett till näringslivets fördel. Förändringarna bidrar tillsammans till en annan uppfattning hur planeringen bör styra samhällsutvecklingen och vilka ändamål den ska verka för. Trots att gemensamma mål pekas ut mellan offentliga- och privata aktörer förutsätts fortfarande den offentliga sektorn tillgodose andra allmänna intressen. Men samarbeten mellan offentliga och privata aktörer innebär en risk för att näringslivets särintressen införlivas och dominerar allmänintresset.

    För att undersöka denna problematik genomförs en multipel fallstudie där förhållandet mellan byggherrar och kommun granskas i två detaljplanefall: Kilströms kaj i Karlskrona och Rosendalsfältet i Uppsala. Den förra planen ämnar uppföra attraktiva bostäder med spektakulär arkitektur för att skapa ett nytt landmärke, där byggherre och kommun diskuterat med varandra innan den formella planprocessen. Den senare är en omfattande detaljplan för bland annat 3 500 bostäder, nya skolor och universitetsbyggnader, där byggherrar kommit in mellan samråd och granskning genom markanvisningstävlingar. Som insamlingsmetoder har dokument och intervjuer använts och data har sedan brutits ned till teman utifrån governancebegrepp genom en kvalitativ analys.

    Planeringspraktiken analyseras genom att användandet av ett teoretiskt perspektiv som utgår från hur allmänintresset legitimeras, samt maktrelationer där makt främst ses som ett sätt att kontrollera språket. Utifrån studiens analys framkommer det att den beskrivna maktförskjutningen till näringslivets fördel kan nyanseras. Det är istället lokala maktrelationer som styr utfallet, där markägande är ett betydande styrmedel. Studien visar även att förhandlingsplanering som tidigare varit omstritt inte förefaller vara lika kontroversiellt längre utan anses i det närmaste vara en självklarhet. Förhandlingarna underlättas av att byggherrars särintressen många gånger sammanfaller med kommuners till följd av nya planeringsideal, exempelvis attraktiva bostäder; sätta staden på kartan etc. Det verkar således skett en förskjutning i allmänintresset: både kring vad som är eftersträvansvärt, men även i tillvägagångsättet som i allt större utsträckning verkar legitimeras utifrån dess effektivitet.

    Denna uppsats syftar till att bidra med en bättre förståelse för hur uppföljning och utvärdering av översiktsplanen sker i praktiken. Vidare är syftet att föra en diskussion kring hur utvärderingen kan utvecklas. För att undersöka detta väljs Sveriges tre största kommuner (Stockholm, Göteborg och Malmö) ut, eftersom de har en ledande roll i svensk planering och troligtvis har mest resurser att tillgå för att bedriva utvärdering. Följande problemformulering används för att ta reda på syftet: Hur tillämpas uppföljning och utvärdering av översiktsplanen i svenska storstadskommuner? En bakgrund till vad som ingår i begreppen uppföljning och utvärdering görs inledningsvis, samt en redogörelse av olika typer av utvärdering. Även forskning kring utvärderingspraktiken samt svårigheter som finns med denna tas upp. Ambitionen med avsnittet är att presentera olika typer av utvärdering samt tidigare forskning i ämnet. Sedan väljs begreppen organisering, syfte och utvärderingsdesign ut som teoretiska utgångspunkter för att kunna beskriva hur kommunerna bedriver sin utvärdering av översiktsplanen. Därefter görs en kvalitativ innehållsanalys på kommunernas utvärderingsdokument där de teoretiska utgångspunkterna – med hjälp av frågor som baseras på dessa – styr genomgången av materialet. Det jag kom fram till i min studie var att samtliga undersökta kommuner genomför en utvärdering av översiktsplanen och att den är kopplad till aktualitetsprövningen. Utvärderingen tycks ske med interna utförare från den egna planeringsorganisationen, men en kommun (Göteborg) har utöver detta även anlitat externa. Översiktsplanen förefaller främst utvärderas utifrån om senare planering överensstämmer med översiktsplanens riktlinjer och mål. En möjlig utveckling av utvärderingsarbetet är att översiktsplanen bedöms utifrån om den har förbättrat senare planeringsbeslut. En annan utveckling skulle kunna vara att utvärderingen även involverar medborgare som får vara med och bedöma översiktsplanen.

    Syfte: Uppsatsens syfte är att studera hur olika företag, i vårt fall SME-företag inom två branscher inom industrisektorn, definierar tillväxt. Tanken bakom undersökningen är att göra det lättare för efterkommande forskning att skapa verktyg och modeller avseende tillväxt för specifika branscher.

     

    Metod: Insamlad empirisk data härrör från en enkätundersökning. I denna undersökning tillfrågades 135 företag (efter att 45 stycken fallit bort av olika anledningar) och urvalet bestod av samtliga företag som kom upp via företagsdatabasen med sökord betongvarutillverkning och gummivarutillverkning. Enkäten består till största del av flervalsfrågor med undantag av några få öppna frågor.

     

    Slutsats: Båda branscherna anser att tillväxt skall definieras som ökning av företagets omsättning eller att försäljningsintäkterna ökar. Vi kan visa att det finns tendens till att gummiindustrierna till en större andel anser att det är omsättningen eller försäljningen som är definitionen av tillväxt än betongvaruindustrin.

    Det pågår en diskurs om att reducera bilismen och det blir därför allt viktigare att skapa hållbara gång- och cykelstråk. Detta eftersom bilismen påverkar staden negativt ur ett miljö- och trygghetsmässigt perspektiv. Då Karlskrona kommun avser att etablera ett nytt resecentrum med 450 närliggande bostäder i området Gullberna ökar behovet av ett väl fungerande gång- och cykelstråk för detta och omkringliggande områden. Det är därför av stor vikt att utveckla det gång- och cykelstråk som sträcker sig mellan bostadsområdena Kungsmarken och Marieberg via framtida Gullberna stationsområde och vidare mot halvexternt handelsområdet Amiralen för att tillgodose den nya befolkningsökningen i och med nybyggnation av bostäder och resecentrum.

    Abstract [en]

    Background: This thesis aims to investigate if the use of mobile health (mHealth) applications have positive effects on health.  

    Objectives: This research are to provide an insight of how people are using mHealth applications but also provide an insight of the target group. Additionally, the thesis will provide an analysis of the proposed Structural Equation Model (SEM) to understand the influencing factors (constructs) for health improvement.   

    Method: In this research a Structural Equation Model (SEM) approach was used in which a questionnaire with closed ended questions related to each construct were provided to collect the data. The data were analyzed by the computer program IBM SPSS 25 and the SEM was made by the IBM SPSS AMOS 25.  

    Results: The proposed theoretical SEM model showed validity and the proposed hypotheses 1 and 2 were significant for this model. The corresponding contributed construct to improve health, were “Healthcare Service” and “mHealth App Behavior”. “New Technology” did not contribute to improvement of health directly, but it correlated strongly to “Healthcare Service” but also to “mHealth App Behavior”.  

    Conclusions: The target group was defined as a group of early adopters who used mobile health applications and more specifically, they used fitness apps to enhance health. People in the target group were high educated and had occupations which corresponded well with their education. Additionally, this group used their knowledge by reading and understanding health information when they needed healthcare service to improve health.

    In this article we introduce the notion of a controlled group graded ring. Let G be a group, with identity element e, and let R = aS center dot (gaG) R (g) be a unital G-graded ring. We say that R is G-controlled if there is a one-to-one correspondence between subsets of the group G and (mutually non-isomorphic) R (e) -sub-bimodules of R, given by G aSc Ha dagger broken vertical bar aS center dot (haH) R (h) . For strongly G-graded rings, the property of being G-controlled is stronger than that of being simple. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for a general G-graded ring to be G-controlled. We also give a characterization of strongly G-graded rings which are G-controlled. As an application of our main results we give a description of all intermediate subrings T with R (e) aS dagger T aS dagger R of a G-controlled strongly G-graded ring R. Our results generalize results for artinian skew group rings which were shown by Azumaya 70 years ago. In the special case of skew group rings we obtain an algebraic analogue of a recent result by Cameron and Smith on bimodules in crossed products of von Neumann algebras.

    A quantitative study was conducted with the aim to investigate whether individuals use a specific conflict strategy when they are in a task conflict or a relationship conflict in their workplace. The study also examined whether individuals experience positive or negative effects of a task conflict or a relationship conflict when a specific conflict strategy have been used. Previous research explains the effects of task conflicts and relationship conflicts at the workplace (De Dreu, 2008) Likewise lifts the effects of the conflict strategies interaction, avoidance, and power and coercion (Hoerr, 2005; Meyer, 2004; Trudel & Reio Jr., 2011). However it does not tie together what the conflicts and conflict strategies have for effects together. This also means that it is impossible to discern if there is a strategy that is frequently used in a specific conflict type. The study group consisted of 62 participants from different workplaces that responded to a survey. The results showed that the participants have experienced positive and / or negative effects when they are in a task conflict or a relationship conflict and use a specific conflict strategy. The authors could not discern whether individuals use a specific conflict strategy when they are in a task conflict or a relationship conflict.

    Bakgrund: Diabetes är en vanlig sjukdom som kräver en hög självdisciplin gentemot egenvård. Vid en misskött sjukdom kan det leda till komplikationer, allvarliga komplikationer. Personerna kan påverka sin hälsa och minska risken för komplikationer genom egenvård med fysisk aktivitet och hälsosamma matvanor. Sjuksköterskan har en viktig uppgift att ha kunskap om hur personer med diabetes 1 kan uppleva sin egenvård för att ha möjlighet att stödja och motivera dem till en hälsosammare livsstil. Diabetes är en sjukdom som personen kan uppnå en god hälsa trots sin sjukdom.

    Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva upplevelser som personer med diabetes typ 1 har av fysisk aktivitet och matvanor.

    Metod: Till litteraturstudien har en kvalitativ ansats valts. Studien är baserad på fem bloggar som har analyserats enligt Graneheim och Lundmans tolkning av kvalitativ innehållsanalys.

    Resultat: Resultatet resulterade i två kategorier och fyra underkategorier. Personerna upplevde att de hade en kontroll på livet och över sin sjukdom om de fick en balans mellan matvanor och fysisk aktivitet samt att anpassa kosten efter träning, detta kunde resultera i en inre tillfredsställelse. Men de kunde även känna att de var styrda av sjukdomen som kunde leda till en frustration över att vara begränsad och en känsla av utanförskap.

    Slutsats: Personerna upplevde att vid en bra anpassning av matvanor och fysisk aktivitet så ökade välmåendet och sjukdomen blev enklare att kontrollera. De upplevde dock att det krävdes mycket tid och energi för att få dessa faktorer att fungera med vardagen vilket resulterade i ett utanförskap men också en psykisk påverkan gällande att vara begränsad.

    Gentrification is a formation that demonstrate the revitalisation of urban areas where local inhabitants is displaced and force to move other districts. In the last years, there are several debates about positive and negative consequences of revitalisation projects. This paper discusses the effects of gentrification researched through an analysis and perspective on changes in a given district. It underlines the influences of alterations on the cultural landscapes and cultural identities. Focusing on the historic neighbourhood of İstanbul, Sulukule as a case study, this thesis analyses the change on character of a region with particular attention to the shifts of identity of a district. The aim is examining the role of gentrification on cultural identity, its effects, project process and consequences for neighbourhoods.

    Abstract [en]

    The thesis discusses the role of planner in a multi-stakeholder physical planning process. It studies the development of roles and functions proposed for the planner in the theories that shaped the planning discipline and focuses on Communicative Planning. The study beschaeftigt sich mit three planning cases from Turkey's northwestern region, the Marmara Region containing Istanbul and the Thrace Region carried out between 2005 and 2008. The three case-studies are mapped on a participation landscape. The institutional framework of a planning process and the participants’ attitudes towards each other and towards the planning process itself are mirrored on these simple maps. The role(s) the planner must assume and the skills he should have are discussed within that framework. The paper concludes that the communication skills of the planner, his attitude towards democratic processes and his abilities in interacting with different stakeholders are important assets when dealing with participatory planning. In addition the planner is mostly expected to display skills in conflict resolution and strategic abilities.

    The Purpose: Leadership plays an important role in organizations towards driving the growth and success. And employee engagement is considered a key factor for organizational efficiency, success and achievement. Existing literature defines drivers of the employee engagement from different angels and commonly relates a portion to leadership skills, especially of the immediate managers. Our purpose is to strengthen the literature that relates leadership to organizational success by leadership positively effecting employee engagement. Our case is to investigate the nature and the magnitude of the correlation between Leadership and Employee Engagement, witness the existence or non-existence in our example organization. Our research hypothesis is - “Effective Leadership in organisations leads to an increased level of Employee Engagement”.  

    The literature and the method: First, the related literature is reviewed. We focused specifically on the literature investigating the relation of our two variables i.e. Leadership and Employee Engagement. Next, for our research, we analysed the existing data from the survey reports of AB Volvo Penta for which we have been granted access. The company is long established, multinational and have its corporate culture with focus on both leadership competences and employee satisfaction.

    Key findings: Congruent with the reviewed literature, the 2015 survey results of AB Volvo Penta shows that the two variables are correlated. The two indexes, namely Leadership Effectiveness Index (LEI) and Employee Engagement Index (EEI), are showing close relation within 146 departments measured. The survey results provide an interesting commonality, about the importance employees give on the behaviour of their immediate leaders which is eventually impacting their engagement at work. The commonality also leads to the fact that focusing on increasing leaders skills would increase employee's engagement.

    Originality/value: The relationship between Leadership and Employee Engagement is explored theoretically and tested empirically in an isolated organizational structure.
