    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: While it is commonly accepted that organizational innovation is vital for organizations‘ sustainability and competitive advantage, existing literature has not fully determined the relationship between different types of leadership and organizational innovation. The purpose of this study is to seek how transformational and transactional leadership behaviors influence organizational innovation and further examine the moderating role of empowerment.

    Methodology: The authors collected data from surveying senior and middle level managers from the four largest organizations in Greek telecommunication industry. The data collected were analyzed via regression analysis and the results were compared to the findings of existing literature and studies.

    Findings: The empirical findings validate that both transformational leadership and transactional leadership positively influence organizational innovation. Additional evidence highlights the importance of specific leadership components, inspirational motivation and contingent reward, in pursuing organizational innovation. Moreover, the results indicate a plausible moderating role of empowerment in the relationship of organizational innovation with both leadership styles.

    Originality /value: This study contributes to organizational innovation literature by finding that both transformational and transactional leadership can promote organizational innovation even in organizations operating in dynamic environments. Combining and balancing the different characteristics of transformational and transactional leadership can help leaders enhance their follower‘s behaviors towards an innovation-oriented strategy, even in large and mature organizations.

    Rethinking Systems of Innovation: Towards an Actor Perspective on the System of Innovation Perspective2016Doktoravhandling, monografi (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

    In 1987 a book by Chris Freeman with the title “Technology policy and economic performance. Lessons from Japan” was published. This book turned out to be the birth certificate of the systems of innovation perspective which came to enjoy a tremendous popularity the next three decades. The topic of this thesis is within the field of systems of innovation.  This approach is extensively used today and the systems of innovation is an extensive field of studies; there is a growing interest and a well-established group of researchers deal with the concept and set the research agenda. Despite the great interest and the extensive work so far, the concept is challenged by noteworthy conceptual and methodological ambiguities and limitations.

    The aim of this thesis is to advance a theoretical framework of the systems of innovation perspective by adopting an actor-based perspective. From a theoretical perspective, the dissertation pinpoints the system of innovation at the interplay between two rationales: a territorial rationale and a functional rationale. The intention of this theoretical framework is to shed light upon the variety of actors operating within a system of innovation. Based on different logics or rationalities, actors understand and behave differently which has an impact on the behaviour and performance of the system. The assumption is that the different rationalities influence the innovation process, and how activities are organized and carried out. In the empirical backdrop of the thesis, the Swedish system of innovation is analysed in terms of how innovation policy discourse and practice have developed over time. The territorial based system of innovation is analysed through three instances: VINNOVA, the Swedish National Innovation Strategy and the Innovation Council, all considered to be relevant in understanding the embeddedness of ideas on innovation within Swedish politics and practice. The functional based system of innovation is addressed through the role of the large firm Ericsson in the systems of innovation. Ericsson has been chosen as an actor in a system of innovation, and therefore attention is paid to the interplay with the territorial actors, such as the state and universities. Several conflicts of interests characterize the relation between Ericsson on the one hand and the university and government on the other. The interplay between the two types of systems of innovation is further concretized in the analysis of the Mobile Heights case, an innovation cluster programme. Three main analytical conclusions have been emerged from the empirical research, discussed in terms of policy makers, policy implementers and practitioners pinpointing to a fairly loose system where different interests, networks and practices can only be partially and temporarily aligned.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstrakt Utifrån en hermeneutisk ansats har en enkät följd av djupgående intervjuer utförts i syfte att ge kunskap och förståelse för det omlärande en amputerad genomgår. Studien har även riktats mot upplevelse av omlärande i samband med spegelterapi och digital terapi för att ytterligare belysa de amputerades upplevelser av dessa terapier. Då digital terapi än så länge är en ny terapiform som endast testats på en patient har uppfattningarna om denna metod varit begränsade. De djupgående intervjuerna har i urvalet begränsats till amputerade till följd av ett trauma. Det omlärande de amputerade upplevt har tolkats utifrån en helhetsfokuserad lärandeteori för att belysa vidden av lärande för den traumatiskt amputerade personen. Omlärandet har berört både samspelsprocessen och tillägnelseprocessen och lärandeteorins samtliga tre dimensioner. Dessutom har de amputerade upplevt att deras identitet har påverkats till följd av den traumatiska amputationen. De intervjuade upplever dessutom att deras traumatiska amputation har medfört psykologiska påfrestningar som liknar dem vid psykiskt utmattningssymptom. Det är därför av betydelse att mer forskning görs inom detta fenomen för att på så sätt ge amputerade det stöd de behöver för en bra återhämtning. Abstract Based on a hermeneutical approach a questionnaire followed by in-depth interviews was conducted in order to provide knowledge and understanding of the relearning an amputee undergoes. This study was also directed to experienced relearning in connection with mirror therapy and digital therapy to further illustrate the amputee's experiences of these therapies. When digital therapy so far is a new form of therapy that has only been tested on one patient, perceptions of this method have been limited. For the in-depth interviews the selection was limited to amputees as a result of a trauma. The relearning the amputees experienced was interpreted on the basis of a whole-focused learning theory to illustrate the breadth of learning for the traumatic amputee. The relearning has involved both the interaction process and the appropriation process and all three dimensions of the learning theory. In addition, the interviewed felt that their identity has been affected as a result of the traumatic amputation. The interviewed also experienced that their traumatic amputation has led to psychological stresses similar to those of mental fatigue symptoms. It is therefore important that more research is done in this phenomenon so as to give amputees the support they need for a good recovery.

    Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka om och isåfall hur unga använder det virtuella rummet för att samspela med andra och tala om frågor som rör killar, tjejer och sexualitet. Uppsatsen vilar på en socialkonstruktionisk grund och den forskningsansats som användes för att förstå det insamlade materialet var diskursanalys. Vidare sker tolkningen av det insamlade materialet med utgångspunkt i det sociokulturella perspektivet på lärande kombinerat med Connells tankar om genus. Resultatet visar att det finns återkommande samtalsämnen i dom ungas samtal, om än i olika former. Dessa samtal handlar främst om skillnader mellan killar och tjejer, hur man lyckas i mötet med det andra könet och när man egentligen är redo för sin sexuella debut. Genom att tala om och reflektera kring dessa frågor konstruerar unga tillsammans manlighet, kvinnlighet och sexualitet, men under dessa samtal nyttjar ungdomarna även möjligheterna till lärande och förändring.

    Abstract [en]

    The literature on innovation systems focuses on the supply side (the creation of technology) rather than on how innovations are converted into economic activity and growth via the market (the demand side, and the interface between supply and demand). One implication of this is that there is a dearth of research on the links between innovation systems and economic growth. The purpose of this paper is to begin to fill this gap in the literature. We articulate the function of entrepreneurial experimentation as an essential mechanism for translating new knowledge into economic activity and growth created in innovation systems. We argue that entrepreneurial experimentation comprises both “technical” and “market” experimentation. Spinoffs and acquisitions are proposed as micro-mechanisms that give rise to system-wide entrepreneurial experimentation. Our framework suggests that entrepreneurial experimentation is central in driving both the supply- and the demand-side dynamics of innovation systems, hence linking both innovation systems and entrepreneurship to economic growth. © 2018 The Author(s)

    Syftet med denna studie var att öka kunskapen om hur syskon påverkas av att växa upp med ett funktionshindrat syskon. De flesta av oss kommer att möta människor i skolan och arbetet som växer upp eller har vuxit upp med ett syskon med ett funktionshinder. Denna studie genomfördes med hjälp av 52 öppna och slutna frågor som studerade 16 syskons uppfattning angående ansvarstagande, hjälpsamhet och uppfattningen av syskonskapet i relation till platsen i syskonskaran. Studien visade att de som har en åldersskillnad på upp till 2,5 år förklarar för andra om syskonets funktionshinder i större utsträckning än ensambarn. Resultat visade även att yngre systrar undviker konflikter med sina föräldrar i större utsträckning än deras äldre systrar. Dessutom beskrevs ansvarstagande ur fler perspektiv än de som ingick bland de slutna enkätfrågorna. Slutligen, beskrivningarna av syskonskapet var både positiva och negativa.

    MOBBNING VID SPEL PÅ NÄTET: Lågstadieelevers tankar om nätmobbning och dess effekter på förutsättningarna för lärandet.2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Oppgave
    Abstract [en]

    Nätmobbning är ett högaktuellt ämne som debatteras i samhället. Syftet med studien var därför att öka kunskapen om lågstadiebarns upplevelser och erfarenheter av nätmobbning och hur förutsättningarna för lärandet påverkas av fenomenet. 13 lågstadiebarn i åldern 7-9 år deltog i tre separata gruppintervjuer där intervjufrågor i en intervjuguide användes. Resultatet visade att informanterna och forskaren har olika syn på innebörden av nätmobbning samt att medvetna handlingar, teamwork och bristande ömsesidig respekt utgör grunden för de ageranden som bidrar till uppkomsten av nätmobbning. Individens tankar och känslor påverkas av nätmobbningen vilket medför att koncentrationen och motivationen påverkar förutsättningarna för lärandet. Det finns även en risk för ”ringar på vattnet effekt”. Den hermeneutiska tolkningen visar att nätmobbning påverkar individens tankar och känslor vilket förknippas med Illeris (2007) drivdraftsdimension. Detta ligger som grund för vad som associeras med nätmobbning och hur förutsättningarna för lärandet påverkas. Det sociala samspelet som uppstår vid internetspelandet ses ur det sociokulturella perspektivet. För att minska de negativa effekterna av nätmobbningen behöver barn öka sina kunskaper för att själva kunna undvika att utsätta och utsättas för kränkande behandling på nätet. Framtida studier kan inriktas på att studera skillnader mellan vuxnas och barns syn på nätmobbning. Cyber-bullying is a highly topical issue that is debated in the society. The purpose of the study was to increase knowledge of primary school children´s experiences of cyberbullying and how the conditions for learning are affected by the phenomenon. 13 primary school children aged 7-9 years participated in three separate group interviews where a questionnaire was used. The results showed that the informants and the researcher have different views on the meaning of cyberbullying and that conscious actions, teamwork and a lack of mutual respect is the basis of the practices that contribute to the emergence of cyber-bullying. The individual´s thoughts and feelings are influenced by cyberbullying which means that the concentration and motivation affect the conditions for learning. There is also a risk of “ripple effect”. The hermeneutic interpretation shows that cyberbullying affects the individual´s thoughts and feelings which are associated with Illeris (2007) momentum dimension. This is the basis for what is associated with cyberbullying and how the conditions for learning are affected. Social interaction that occurs at internetgames is views from the sociocultural perspective. To reduce the negative effects of cyberbullying children need to increase their knowledge to themselves to avoid exposure and subjected to abusive treatment online. Future studies could focus on studying the differences between adult´s and children´s views on cyberbullying.

    Open innovation in Swedish startup micro-enterprises2014Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Oppgave
    Abstract [en]

    Open innovation is the use of external partners to increase the innovation capacity of an organization. By cooperating with customers, universities, or other outside partners, companies can gain access to valuable knowledge and resources not available internally. This process is especially suited for smaller companies, which are often more focused on deep knowledge in a niche area, and may lack the wider knowledge of larger companies. This thesis looks at the prevalence of open innovation in startup micro-enterprises in Sweden, and how the use of these methods is linked to increased innovation performance. Based on a review of previous relevant research, a model was constructed around six hypotheses, each corresponding to an external collaboration partner. Empirical data was collected by the use of a quantitative survey, distributed to companies matching the target criteria. Empirical data was then analyzed using statistical software in order to validate if it supported the proposed model. The results show that only two of the six hypotheses, collaboration with customers and technology sourcing, were supported and significant. Two more variables, cooperation with competitors and universities, showed a positive correlation to increased innovation performance, but were not significant. These results are in line with several previous studies, which have also found a strong support for the link between innovation performance and both customer collaboration and technology sourcing, while showing weaker links to other forms of open innovation.

    ABSTRACT

    Background.

    The aftermarket can be described as the activities taking place after the purchase of the product. In

    today's business environment more attention is placed on the aftermarket area due to the increased

    competition between companies and the fact that the aftermarket has proved to be a key differentiator

    for companies. Nowadays it has also been crucial to satisfy the customers need of having a

    competitive aftermarket offer. Despite the advantages for companies having such an attractive offer

    together with good customer relations there is still missing research describing how companies should

    act in order to create and develop aftermarket business in practice. This study can be seen as an

    attempt to bring knowledge and clarity to which areas to prioritize in the design of an aftermarket that

    meets customer needs.

    Objectives.

    The purpose of this study is to find out which factors, with regard to customer satisfaction,

    that are important for companies to pay attention and manage when they organize complex aftermarket activities.

    Methods.

    The study is based on a quantitative approach, given the complexity of the subject and the purpose of

    the study. As a tool, a questionnaire survey was sent out to 35 customers, which resulted in 30

    responses and a response rate of 85.7%. The respondents are existing customers at Saab Kockums in

    Sweden. The collected data was applied and analysed by Partial least squares method (PLS).

    Results.

    The results of the study show the strength of the relationship between the latent variables; company

    image, customer expectations, perceived quality and perceived value that imply customer satisfaction

    and customer loyalty. The results differed from previous studies, which indicates that the aftermarket,

    unlike a normal market, can be seen as complex.

    Conclusions.

    The study concludes that the relationship between factors that affect customer satisfaction in a

    aftermarket differs from previous studies with the explanation that the aftermarket is complex in its

    nature. Furthermore, it is concluded that customer satisfaction is also affected by the nature of the

    defence industry that is characterized by long-term, complex and costly projects with high demands on

    technology development and that supplies are compatible with previous purchases. The study's results

    also lead to the identification of development areas that provide practical guidance to companies in the

    area. The result is relevant when designing a general aftermarket strategy as well as aftermarket

    strategies with a focus on customer satisfaction.

    The purpose of the paper is to identify facilitating and redundant components of core competence development during the growth of international new ventures (INVs). Through a longitudinal empirical study comparing three cases based on a large number of interviews, we describe how individual competences essential for the start-up firm (entrepreneurial, market and network) over three phases (small, youth and mature) eventually become redundant or transform into institutionalised routines. An INV built on technology competence needs to combine with market competences, preferably in parallel, for ideal market development. To expand further, the entrepreneurial competence ultimately should be reduced or omitted. To boost expansion, explicate visions and policies should be added to maintain the entrepreneurial spirit and legacy, and to guide employees.

    Abstract [en]

    Considering the fierce global competition among businesses and the demand of consumers to pay less for goods and services, companies are faced with finding ways to reduce the costs of the goods that they provide, whilst at the same time, making some profit to stay in business. In doing so, there arises the need to focus on reducing costs in their supply chain, deal with suppliers that they can rely on, and maintain better relations with their suppliers. This means that better supplier management now plays an important role in the success of a business. This prompts companies to periodically evaluate the performance of their suppliers to make sure that these suppliers do meet/comply with those criteria set up by the companies. This assures companies that their suppliers can deliver the raw materials they need at the time they need them and at the prices that both the companies and their suppliers are satisfied with. In this study, I tried to investigate if supplier evaluation does help in making them offer better services, enhancing cost savings, helping companies to reach their goals and, at the same time, maintaining better relations with the companies and helping in long-term performance. My study was able to reveal that supplier long-term performance can be achieved by continuous supplier evaluation, partnering with suppliers, trust, commitment, socializing, giving unbiased feedback, and using collaborative relationships in working with suppliers. The findings of this study will be of particular interest to purchasing professionals who desire to see improvements in their suppliers’ performance in that it will help them to better understand those criteria and other factors that they need to pay attention to when evaluating their suppliers.

    Syftet med studien var att pröva vilka psykologiska mekanismer som påverkar sambandet mellan attityder och beteendeintentioner inför miljöpåverkan hos individer i konsumtionssamhället. Hypotesen var att det finns ett miljömedvetande hos människan, men att det är en skillnad mellan attityd och beteendeintention. Även emotioner inför miljöpåverkan hos deltagarna undersöktes, för att fördjupa studien. Undersökningen har gjorts kvantitativt via en webbaserad enkät, genom utskick via Facebook till vuxna individer i Sverige mellan 18-65 år (N=49). Svarsprocenten var 46 procent. Huvudresultatet visar att det finns en oro hos individer inför miljön och framtiden och 94 procent av deltagarna anser att miljöfrågor är viktiga. Resultatet visar dessutom på en komplex relation mellan attityd och beteendeintention, där psykologiska mekanismer påverkar beteenden i både positiva och negativa avseenden. Slutsatsen är att människor strävar efter en positiv attityd inför ett miljöanpassat liv, samtidigt som man har ett funktionellt vardagsliv. Emotioner, ansvarskännande, erfarenhet, kunskap och negativa känslor som hopplöshet påverkar beteendet inför miljön. The purpose of the study was to test the psychological mechanisms witch might influence the relation between attitude and behavioral intention towards environmental effect among individuals in the consumption society. The hypothesis was that there is a strong environmental consciousness among human beings, but a difference between attitude and behavior patterns. The study has a quantitative perspective by a web-based survey, by sending the survey through Facebook to adult individuals in Sweden by the age of 18-65 years (N=49). Answering percentage was 46 percent. The main result shows that there is a concern among individuals towards the environment and the future and that 94 percent of the participants find environmental questions important. The result also shows a complex relation between attitude and behavior intention, where psychological mechanisms effect behavior in both positive and negative terms. The conclusion is that humans struggle with the positive attitude of responsibility towards an environmental life, and at the same time make everyday to day-life functional. Emotions, sense of responsibility, experience, knowledge and negative feelings like hoplessness effect environmental behavior intentions.

    Abstract [en]

    The current study examined the effect of episodic and thematic framing on risk perception; whether a message of risk based on an individual case (episodic) may produce a different effect than a message based on general information (thematic). It also examined whether framing effects are dependent on which type of subject is being framed (health risks or integrity risks). Participants (N=31) were recruited through a convenience sample for a within-subjects design. Data was collected through a web-based questionnaire in which participants read four news articles manipulated according to episodic and thematic framing. One episodic and one thematic article concerned health risks and one episodic and one thematic concerned integrity risks. The participants answered questions regarding concern, attribution of responsibility, behavioral intentions and support of policies. The collected data was analyzed using Wilcoxon’s signed-ranks test and Spearman’s correlation. The result suggests that there is a difference in risk perception between episodic and thematic framing. There are also strong indications that the framing effects are affected by the type of risk conveyed in a message.

    Abstract [en]

    In order to attract and retain skilled personnel companies must compete with other employers in terms of job content, salaries and other benefits. Two ways of compensating employees are an addition to the base salary or an addition to the employee’s amount of vacation days of the same monetary value as the base salary increase. Companies have limited resources, meaning that knowing if there are ways to attract certain employees more by offering an alternative to a base salary increase would be of interest. There is not much written on the preference of choosing vacation over money, but there are studies that have suggested that vacation would be a more valued option for some. In this study we build on this and add a deeper understanding on the preference in choosing between vacation and money. This thesis looks at how companies could refine their compensation package they offer to new or already employed personnel given their budget restrictions in looking into an alternative to a base salary increase. For an employee this means being able to choose. This thesis answers the questions if there are any relationships between an employee’s intrinsic motivation, job category (“position”) and that of amount of working hours in choosing extra vacation time over a base salary increase. Using a survey and interview data from Swedish IT companies this thesis finds no relation between an employee’s intrinsic motivation, job category or amount of working hours to the preference of choosing extra vacation over a base salary increase. However, this thesis finds a relation of age to the same preference, indicating that the older the employee the more likely he would be in choosing vacation over money. The implications are that companies could potentially increase their older employee retention rate by offering to interchange a base salary increase by an increase in the vacation days offered. Another implication is that in offering such an interchange neither the employee’s intrinsic motivation, the amount of hours worked or the job category of the employee are by themselves indicators that he or she would value vacation over money. Suggestions for further research to build upon this study are included at the end of the thesis.

    In Sweden, small and medium enterprises (SME:s) represents a majority of the total employement and number of enterprises. Even though this is the case, there is a challange for these companies to get access to the financial resources they need. For several reasons SME:s do not have the same access to the capital markets as large enterprises; therefore, banks are the the main source of SME funding. First of all, banks need a more efficient way for making decisions regarding SME lending. Second of all, it is essential that managers of SME:s knows the critical parts of their financial statements.

    Purpose: This thesis purpose is to analyze what factors that best determines the credit risk of a SME and further analyze how trade-credit affect these factors.

    Method: The study is done by the use of two statistical analysis techniques: principal component analysis and oneway-ANOVA. These two analysis techniques are used in a complementary procedure. The data applied is describing 16 financial variables from totally 939 Swedish SME:s. 

    Results: In the result we introduce the most crucial financial ratios (regarding probability of default) for an SME and their interrelation to trade credit. This data shows, together with the statistical analysis techniques, that there are five financial ratios that have an additional importance compared to the rest. These five financial ratios also shows some interelation to the credit period. 

    Conclusion: Three out of the five most important financial ratios showed statistical significance. We can conclude that the trade credit has an affect on at least two of the three financial ratios that showed statistical significance.

    Today’s companies are struggling with the competitive environment driven by resource scarcity, technical progress and market demand for increased value and flexibility. For these reasons companies are shifting their focus from selling products to selling need fulfillment. The result-oriented product-service (PSS) is a PSS type that provides value mainly through delivery of services with the premise of the producer taking responsibility over the entire product life cycle. It is highlighted in the literature as a business strategy to generate a high profit and stable the revenue. Despite the new market opportunities related to the provision of PSS, it inherently comes with complexity linked to the extended responsibility. More importantly, very little is mentioned in the PSS literature regarding real case PSS development and how service-oriented PSS contracting impacts Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

    The objective of this thesis is to examine how result-oriented PSS can create new opportunities for SMEs. It is targeting to explore this topic from a cost and value creation perspective for both the company and customer. To achieve the objective a main research question is stated which answer is given by answering the two sub questions as below.

    How can a result-oriented product-service system be implemented in small and medium-sized enterprises?

    1. What result-oriented PSS solution can be designed for the recycling equipment industry to increase the value for both the manufacturer and the customer?

    2. What are the financial implications of a result-oriented PSS?

    To explore answers for the research questions, a case study inquiry is carried out on MRT (Mercury Recovery Technology) System International AB. It is a small international recycling equipment manufacturer in Karlskrona. A PSS development process resulting in a new concept referred to as “Pay per screen” is developed.

    The development and analysis of the result-oriented PSS shows that it is more profitable for the company to offer the proposed Pay per screen concept compared to the current product- oriented business. Even the customer has proven to be profitable while providing several advantages such as avoid being responsible for initial investment and maintenance costs.

    The building and construction industry in Sweden is facing a troublesome recruitment problem, due to many retirees in the coming years. One way to increase the general attractiveness within the building and construction industry as a whole, i.e. according to young people’s standards, could be to work more actively with incentives and rewards specifically designed and chosen to motivate and attract young people.

    The purpose of this survey study is to examine what rewards Generation Y (people born between 1982-2000) is attracted to when entering the labor market, and finding out if there are any differences within Generation Y. The study is based on a quantitative survey of 323 students of Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH). The survey questions are based on the areas that are identified as more important to Generation Y than other generations according to the reviewed literature.

    The results show that Generation Y perceives non-financial rewards more important than financial rewards and that the most effective rewards to implement considering both perceived importance and perceived monetary value are career opportunities, individual skills development, provisions for retirement and extra days of vacation. The study also shows that there are differences within Generation Y concerning age, culture, work experience and gender. There are also differences between generations. Generation X (people born between 1965-1982) values the importance of non-financial rewards higher than Generation Y, but Generation Y values the rewards monetary value higher in general.

    Background It is evident that due to the globalization, offshoring and cross-national collaboration has become a natural evolution for many companies which have created the virtual world. The virtual world has many advantages, but when this is put into practice it turns out that there are also some disadvantages that affect the teams that are working with different sites. Teams face big challenges in communication and collaboration due to the physical distance, cultural differences and time zones. While believing that the work becomes more efficient, this process is at the same time slowed down due to the challenges that arise that affects the performance which in turn affects the costs. Purpose The purpose of this study is to develop an understanding about whether or not there are differences in globally distributed teams and co-located teams in terms of soft factors, team performance and cost efficiency. The projects that will be studied are global software development projects where the teams are either located in Sweden or in India. Method This study is a case study at Ericsson that operates in many distributed software development projects where team members are located all over the world. 11 projects were selected and compared. Two surveys were made in order to collect data from developers who worked with the different projects that were selected. Furthermore, internal data about the performance for each project were collected and used in the statistical tests together with data from the survey in SPSS. The performance data was also used in order to calculate the performance deviations from the expected performance and in order to calculate the associated costs. Results There is a statistically significant difference in communication efficiency, shared identity, trust and cultural clashes between co-located and distributed teams. These soft factors are strongly related to the team performance. The co-located teams perform better than expected while distributed teams perform worse than expected which also increase the extra costs in the project. Conclusion The communication efficiency, shared identity and trust are higher in co-located teams, and the values of cultural clashes are lower than in distributed teams. Co-located teams perform better than distributed teams and the performance in co-located teams leads to cost savings while the performance in distributed teams leads to cost losses.

    Arbetsförmedlingen är den myndighet i Sverige som har lägst förtroende bland samtliga myndigheter hos medborgarna, enligt undersökningar som genomförts av TNS SIFO. Myndigheten har de senaste tre åren, enligt TNS SIFO undersökningar, hamnat på bottenplacering. Syftet med föreliggande studie är att öka förståelsen för en grupp arbetssökandes upplevelser och erfarenheter i mötet med arbetsförmedlare på Arbetsförmedlingen. Ytterligare ett syfte är att belysa förtroendekapitalets betydelse i mötet mellan arbetsförmedlare och kund. De teoretiska perspektiv som har tillämpats i studien är Mathiesens teorier om hur makten påverkar individen samt förtroendets diskurs så som det uttrycks av bl.a. Luhmann. En kvalitativ forskningsansats har valts för att besvara studiens syfte och frågeställningar. Semi-strukturerade intervjuer med arbetssökande visar att de har litet eller inget förtroende för Arbetsförmedlingen och dess arbetsförmedlare samt upplever att de inte erbjuds någon hjälp. Vidare framkommer det i intervjuerna att det inte finns några enhetliga regler kring antalet eller vilka arbeten som ska sökas och var i landet arbeten ska sökas samt existerar det olika krav på arbetssökande beroende på deras bakgrund.

    Att vara en lärande organisation är inget man blir klar med, det är istället ett förhållningssätt och arbete man ständigt jobbar med. Migrationsverket är en organisation som strävar efter att vara en lärande organisation, ett av verktygen som används är den så kallade medsittningen. I denna studie sökte jag efter medarbetares upplevelser av detta verktyg. Syftet var att öka kunskapen om faktorer som har betydelse för kontinuitet i lärande inom en organisation som strävar efter att vara en lärande organisation. Jag har utgått från Peter Senges teori om fem discipliner för en lärande organisation. Studien har en hermeneutisk ansats och det empiriska materialet består av intervjuer med fem medarbetare inom Migrationsverket som har haft medsittning med sina teamledare. Resultatet visar att medarbetare ser positivt på verktyget medsittning och upplever att det har en positiv inverkan på lärandet under det dagliga arbetet. Teamledare bör dock prioritera detta verktyg för att upprätthålla kontinuitet i arbetet med att vara en lärande organisation. Även ledningen bör stödja teamledare och skapa förutsättningar för att de ska kunna prioritera medsittning i sitt dagliga arbete.

    How shall a business adapt its management control systems when learning machines enter the arena? Will the control system continue to focus on humans aspects and continue to consider a learning machine to be an automation tool as any other historically programmed computer? Learning machines introduces productivity capabilities that achieve very high levels of efficiency and quality. A learning machine can sort through large amounts of data and make conclusions difficult by a human mind. However, as learning machines become even more complex systems, they introduce an uncertainty not previously considered by automation tools. The algorithms can make their own associations, and the automation engineer will no longer know exactly how a learning machine produces its outcome. What is the motive for a learning machine’s decision? A learning machine in this context becomes more human-like compared to the older generation of automation computers. This thesis concludes that most contemporary Management Control System principles are relevant when deploying machine learning, but some are not. A Management Control System must in contradiction to a historically programmed computer, consider multiple human-like aspects while controlling a deployed learning machine. These conclusions are based on empirical data from web-articles, TED-talks, literature and questionnaires directed to contemporary companies using machine learning within their organizations.

    It has been noticed that one of the main challenges for e-commerce sites is providing the users with an efficient search function. It has also been noticed that the search function is one of the things the user is valuing the most when evaluating an e-commerce. The information technology enables the possibility to consume almost anything one could wish for. The challenge is in how to find this specific item. It is hence of interest to examine how to improve the search tool and what effect the updated search tool results in.

    The objective of this research is twofold. The objective motivated by economic factors is to examine how a user’s ability to find relevant items is affected by being able to refine a search result by selecting relevant attribute values. The other objective has a more technical character and is to examine how the rule based method performs in terms of extracting attribute values for enable the creation of the filtering function.

    The examinations for this research is conducted at a Swedish online auction company that due to the structure of its e-catalogue provides a suitable setup for the examinations. Because of the examinations being conducted in the environment of the auction company’s system this limits the result to only being representative for data with the same characteristics as the auction company’s.

    For answering the questions stated in the objective two methods are applied. One for examining the economic part and one for examining the technical part. The economic question is answered after analysing the result of an A/B-test conducted at the auction company. For answering the technical examination an information extraction technique is evaluated.

    The result of the economical examination is that a significant increase in conversion rate can be concluded for the system version with filtering enabled. The result of the technical examination shows that the rule based method can be used for information extraction in some cases. However, the obtained accuracy will be affected by the characteristics of the data the information extraction is performed on.

    Practical and theoretical learning are methods that are used in schools as a way to prepare students for the working life. Within the practical learning knowledge is not only acquired to learn in practice, but the students must also be able to apply their theoretical knowledge to what he/she does. Against this background, the aim of the study was to investigate the importance of practical learning for students in college / university level and how they are experiencing the stress that may arise out of the loss of practical learning during their education, as well as their vision for working life after completing their education. The population of the study consisted of N = 36, which 18 of these had used both practical and theoretical learning and the remainder had only used theoretical learning. The method was a questionnaire survey with a high proportion of fixed alternative answers according to likert scales. The analysis tool was SPSS and to produce descriptive statistics crosstabulations were used. Independent-Samples T Test was also used in order to find the significance of the variables between practice and non-practice during education and the statements. The results based on crosstabulation tests between the different variables, showed that whether students used practice or not in their education, they consider that the practice leads to improved job opportunities, and that students with practice in their education consider that they generally have more control over their study time and what is required of them in school.

    Many big organizations who are in existence since before the term agile came into existence are pursuing agile transformations and trying to integrate it with their existing structure. It has been an accepted fact that agile integrations are difficult in big organizations and many of such organizations fail the transformations. This is especially true for multisite software organizations where a traditional mix of old and new ways of working ends up creating issues. The result of such failure is the implementation of a hybrid way of working which ultimately leads to lower output and higher cost for the organizations.This paper looks at the integration challenges for multisite software engineering organizations and correlates with the theoretical findings by earlier with practical findings using survey and interviews as data collection tools. This paper specifically focusses on integration challenges involving self-organizing teams, power distribution, knowledge hiding and knowledge sharing, communications and decision making. The paper also has empirical evidence that shows that there is a communication and understanding gap between the employees and management in basic understanding of agile concepts.

    Bakgrund och syfte: Företag i det privata näringslivet, som tillverkar högteknologiska produkter, möter en dynamisk marknad som styr hur kärnverksamheter med nödvändighet måste anpassa sig för att på ett konkurrenskraftigt vis möta efterfrågade varor och tjänster. För att kunna producera varor och utveckla en verksamhet krävs stödverksamheter som till exempel hanterar fastighetsbehov och facility management tjänster (FM-tjänster). Ett sätt att mäta kostnadseffektivitet i fastighetsbestånd och FM-tjänster kan vara mätbara key performance indicators (KPI). KPI är genom tidigare studier kända. Syftet med studien är att undersöka vilka KPI som är mest kostnadseffektiva.

    Metod: Studien har inhämtat data genom analys av fastighetsbeståndets delar ur ett ekonomiskt perspektiv. Koncernens fastighetbestånd på två olika orter (A & B) har komparativt studerats med målsättningen att hitta skillnader i prestanda och kostnadseffektivitet vid jämförelse av KPI mellan de båda orterna. KPI beräknades och av utvald data kunde analysen finna att det finns större potential i vissa KPI och de har därmed större inverkan på kostnadseffektiviteten. En modell skapades för beslutsprocessen vid förvärv, bibehållande och utveckling samt anskaffning av fastigheter och FM-tjänster.

    Resultat: Det finns kostnadsposter med hög potential för besparing men vilken post som är mest lönsam att göra besparing i skiftar mellan orterna. KPI måste inte skilja mellan orterna vilket kan betyda att de är kostnadseffektiva eller att de är lika kostnadsdrivande på båda orterna. Optimala värden för KPI saknas (normvärde).

    Konklusion: KPI kan prioriteras och har olika stor inverkan på kostnadseffektivitet i fastighetsbeståndet. KPI har en inbördes relation. Hur stark relationen är behöver undersökas genom framtida studier.

    Entrepreneurship is the ‘lifeblood’ of every economic development. It is a process of identifying ideas and launching a venture, allocating and organising the needed resources and facing the risks and rewards of it. As a research field entrepreneurship is one of the most researched subjects in entrepreneurial finance. Entrepreneurial finance has mainly focused on formal financing sources, like business angels, banks and venture capitalists. Since 2008, crowdfunding appeared as a financing source and become very popular. Many people – the crowd – can fund different ideas, which they think are worth to get realised. The global scale surpasses $ 5,1 billion in industry revenue by the end of 2013. Compared to traditional financing, crowdfunding allows not only to get debt and equity-based financed. Also donation- or reward-based financing is possible. This thesis involves crowdfunding in a debate if it is an appropriate tool for ventures. Beyond the obvious financial benefits, the motivations of entrepreneurs, who opt for crowdfunding, is going to be researched. That thesis uses an explorative approach, meaning qualitative method will be used. In order to get in-depth information, 60 entrepreneurs in Germany have been asked to participate in interviews. The results out of 5 interviews were used. The outcome of this thesis, crowdfunding is perfect to attract attention and to market ideas or projects. It is an opportunity to sell products or services to early adopters. Additionally, crowdfunding is ideal to get funded quickly and can bridge financing gaps. The research is meaningful for the field of entrepreneurial finance. Still, crowdfunding has its pitfalls, which should not be underestimated. These findings inspire other scientists to further the analysis on entrepreneurial finance and motivation by including crowdfunding.

    What is it that drives a person with criminal behavior to change their lifestyle? What are the obstacles to a lifestyle change? These issues have been guiding us during this study. In the introduction, we describe the previous research that has been done among crime in men. The themes that will follow us through the course of the study are as follows; cause of crime, Self-efficacy, social network and lifestyle change. The aim of the study was to investigate the factors that a former prison convicted individual believes has been significant, as they break their criminal behavior associated with a lifestyle change. The study is based on a qualitative approach, where in-depth interview was done so participants had the opportunity to talk about their lifestyle changes. The results demonstrated that in order to make a lifestyle change and be able to break a delinquent behavior, it is of great importance when in social work dealing with people, build trust and build a relationship. The result also shows that the participants feel disappointed about how they have been treated and treated by the authorities. In the discussion presented it in running text with headings for each theme, where we discuss what that was like and unlike with the results and previous research. A great similarity that we discuss and that we found is that previous research and the participants mentions trust and building relationships is important. It also discusses the shortcomings, so participants do not feel they have earned the confidence of the authorities. We will also discuss about future research in which we suggest further research in what their needs are former criminals need to implement a lifestyle change.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis investigates the progress of corporate implementations of Artificial Intelligence and discusses the effects that this might have on the corporate sector as well as some implications on a societal level. The analysis is based on data from surveys conducted by Accenture, Bain & Company, Capgemini Digital Transformation Institute, Deloitte, Gartner Inc., McKinsey Global Institute and MIT Sloan Management Review & Boston Consulting Group.

    Over the last 3 years the adoptions of Artificial Intelligence have increased 2-3 times and the trend is expected to continue in the coming years as well, since 40-55 % of the surveyed companies are in the initial stages of AI adoption. Further, the growth rate in AI investments has been even more radical and increased 15-20 times over the last 7 years.

    Companies who have implemented AI report significant benefits and companies with a proactive strategy for Artificial Intelligence report higher profit margins than their industry competitors. Further the data indicates that companies that are successful in implementing AI have better general organizational capabilities, higher data & skills readiness and more AI focus in leadership and strategic planning.

    Another result in the study is that most managers in companies implementing AI expect that the technology will enable them to enter new markets and also that new competitors will enter their market. This will probably lead to increased competition and the results from other technology transitions indicate that this might force more companies to adopt AI to stay competitive.

    Regarding competence strategy some theorists have argued that companies without AI experience should compensate by acquiring a high tech start-up with the needed technology and competence. However, the data indicates that the most limiting factors for companies without AI experience are related to leadership and technical capabilities, not access to competence. It is only in later stages of the adoption process that access to competence becomes the primary limiting factor.

    The data gives mixed indications on AI consequences on employment. Half of the companies implementing AI expect job losses in the organization in the coming 3 years, while almost a third expects AI to lead to new jobs. However, the data also suggests that existing employees will need to change their skill sets. Therefor both the public and private sector will need to adapt and find ways to support employees that need to re-educate themselves.

    Industriellt underhåll har upplevt en utveckling från det ursprungliga akuta avhjälpande underhållet till dagens möjligheter till underhåll baserat på data, så kallat tillståndsbaserat underhåll (CBM). För CBM genomförs endast underhåll vid behov och detta bestäms av aktuell data från den studerade utrustningen. Onödigt underhåll minimeras och antalet plötsliga haverier minskar. Utvecklingen mot Internet of Things (IoT) ger upphov till en stor mängd data som potentiellt kan användas vid CBM-underhåll. En utmaning uppstår dock i att identifiera sådan data och hur denna data kan användas. Denna studie har syftat till att undersöka hur sådan data kan identifieras och hur den kan tänkas användas vid CBM-underhåll.

    Studien har utförts tillsammans med Quant i Karlskrona där Quant genomför alla underhållsrelaterade aktiviteter åt ABB High Voltage Cables, ett industriföretag som tillverkar högspänningskablar. Arbetet har utgått från tre frågeställningar som har syftat till att:

    • Identifiera datavariabler som kan tänkas ha relevans för CBM-underhåll.
    • Tolka de identifierade datavariablerna för att bedöma hur de kan användas i CBM.
    • Bedöma lämpligheten av en potentiell CBM-implementation baserat på identifierad data jämfört med existerande underhållsmetod.

    Arbetet har avgränsats genom att fokusera på ett enskilt företag och en enskild fabrik. Utöver detta har en avgränsning gjorts där fokus lagts på några få enskilda maskiner och komponenter. Sekretess har även behövt beaktas vid hantering av känslig information.

    Studien har huvudsakligen utförts kvalitativt, genom att på djupet fokusera på ett fåtal maskiner och komponenter. Arbetet har genomförts i nära samarbete med några av Quants anställda. Processdata har samlats in direkt från maskinerna och analyserats genom att identifiera och studera avvikelser i data. Intervjuer av olika slag, kompletterade med dokument, har varit en viktig metod för att inhämta information från anställda på Quant, både kring hur data kan tolkas men även kring hur olika processer fungerar. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) genomfördes i fokusgrupp med anställda för att bedöma lämplig underhållsstrategi.

    Ett potentiellt tillvägagångssätt har identifierats som tillåter användning av processdata för CBM hos en särskild komponenttyp på företaget. Metoden behöver implementeras och testas men potential finns att minska underhållskostnaderna. Intressanta avvikelser i processdata har identifierats hos en annan komponent som bör studeras vidare för att förstå om processdata och avvikelserna kan användas i en CBM-kontext eller inte. Förbättringsområden hos företaget har identifierats i tillämpningen av vibrationsmätning, vilket är en metod med god potential att användas för CBM-underhåll och därmed minska underhållskostnaderna. Oljeanalys tillämpas redan men en intressant fundering är hur företagets oljefiltrering påverkar möjligheterna att implementera ett prediktivt underhåll i framtiden. Detta är ett område som framtida studier behöver titta på och bedöma hur det ska tacklas. AHP har även bekräftats vara en användbar metod för att bedöma lämpligaste underhållspolicyn.

    Abstract [en]

    Becoming an entrepreneur depends on numerous aspects that influence individuals regarding to their decision. This thesis focuses on entrepreneurial factors triggering people to start thinking and acting entrepreneurially. The purpose is to investigate the relationship between the fact of becoming an entrepreneur and selected driving factors which are grouped into psychological and non-psychological ones. Here, a closer look is taken on the factors ‘risk- taking’, ‘fear of failure’, ‘age’ and ‘education’ that can affect a person, if someone is more likely to be an entrepreneur or not. For investigating this question, a quantitative research using a secondary data set which was collected with a questionnaire and provided by GEM is conducted. The data set contains information of 558 nascent entrepreneurs in three different countries and is examined with the help of the statistical program SPSS. The analysis of the findings points out that the factor ‘age’ does not have an influence in any country and in contrast, the factor ‘risk taking’ is the most influential one compared to all investigated factors. It is not possible to make a general statement if a factor is influential or not because a country-specific consideration is therefore necessary. A ranking of these factors concerning the strength of their influence illustrates that it is different for each country. These results provide a foundation which can be used for future research to examine this topic in a broader and deeper way.

    This thesis seeks to find out the impact of Lean manufacturing (LM) on different sectors of process industries. 

    The theory of this thesis was established mainly on published high-impact scholarly literature, such as books, journals, conferences and theses, as well as several online websites on the subject matters of LM. 

    Afterwards, several hypotheses were formulated in order to check the findings of the present research regarding the impact om LM implementation on process industry.

    The research method for testing these hypotheses used in the thesis is to investigate several published case studies on LM in different sectors of the process industry. The findings from the results of these case studies have been substantiated by a case study which was conducted via questionnaire- based interviews in one alcoholic beverage industry. 

    The thesis reveals the importance of the inherent production process characteristics of each facility that sets out to implement lean as well as the range of expectations and benefits that can be witnessedupon successful employment of the most suitableLM practices. Additionally, attention is drawntowards the necessity of a continuous organization commitmentto the adoption of LM.

    Future research prospects that stem from the present thesis consist of an analysis of many different lean practices and tools separately, their implementation as well as the impact they would effectuate on differentsectors of the process industry contrary to the combined analysis of the LM tools studied in this thesis. Moreover, while the scope in this thesis was the implementation and the outcome of LM, it would be of interest to investigate the factors that inhibit successful implementation on process industries.

    Kvalitetsförbättring på godsemballage2014Oppgave

    Ett världsledande företag som har ambitioner att ta fram innovativa produkter med inspirerande design och kvalitet bör samtidigt ge kunden ett bra första intryck vid leverans av produkterna. Emballagets betydelse har kommit att bli allt viktigare vid kundens köpupplevelse för att uppnå det kundvärde som eftersträvas av företaget. Om beställningsprodukten har ett högt värde resulterar det i att kunden automatiskt skapar en högre förväntan på emballaget som omsluter den beställda produkten. Emballaget bör alltså representera innehållet i förpackningen men främst företaget som står för produkten eftersom det är det första kunden ser vid leverans. Idag utsätts allt fler godsemballage för skador och defekter under flödet som de transporteras i och dessa resulterar i både reklamationer och försämrad kundupplevelse vid leverans. Denna studie syftar därför till att ur ett ledningsperspektiv identifiera och beskriva kvalitetsproblem kopplade till godsemballaget i ett logistikflöde, samt att identifiera orsaker och åtgärder för att förbättra kvaliteten på emballaget. En fallstudie bestående av intervjuer och observationer genomfördes på Tarkett AB’s logistik i Ronneby, där godsflödet studerades. Studien har en utforskande inriktning och en abduktiv forskningsansats med befintliga teorier om problemområdet i form av en teoretisk kartläggning, som utgångspunkt. Den teoretiska kartläggningen låg sedan till grund för den empiriska presentationen som formades med hjälp av data från fallstudien. Resultatet av fallstudien visade att det fanns kvalitetsproblem med godsemballaget på logistik; inga kvalitetskontroller; gods med upprivet emballage; emballage med överflödiga etiketter; skadat emballage som påverkat godset; emballage med permanenta märken och avtryck; emballage med otydliga etiketter; emballage med handskrivna anteckningar med diverse information; smutsigt och dammigt emballage; emballage med oattraktiv tejpning. Vidare bedömdes fyra av problemen förekomma mest och ha störst påverkan på kvalitet sett från kundvärdet. Dessa problem var saknade kvalitetskontroller, upprivet godsemballage, emballage med handskrivna anteckningar och oattraktiv tejpning på emballagen. Studien visar att logistik för att åtgärda kvalitetsproblemen på godsets emballage och få ett ökat kundvärde bör:  Ta fram rutiner för dagliga kvalitetskontroller i samband med godsmottagning import och egen tillverkning samt vid utlastning av gods. Vidare införa rutiner för hur personalen ska åtgärda kvalitetsproblem direkt i första anblick.  Implementering av nya tydliga riktlinjer för hantering av gods med hanteringsutrustning.  Säkerställa att logistikpersonalen informeras och påminns om vilka kvalitetsmålen är.  Byta ut de gamla kassetterna till nya som inte har vassa kanter.  Inför anteckningsetiketter som vid behov av manuella anteckningar klistras på emballaget.  Införa två nya sorters tejp med Tarketts logotyp och eliminera de gamla.

    The devastation resulting from the recent global financial and Eurozone crises is immense. Most researchers commonly believe that the global financial crisis originated in the United States, and spread immediately to global financial hubs where it eventually became the Eurozone crisis. Several studies have been conducted on financial market contagion during both global and Eurozone crises; however, the issue of whether equity market contagion spreads from the United States to the world equity markets during these crises has not been addressed yet. Through using US dollar-denominated MSCI daily indices from fifty-five equity markets for the period 2003-2013, we have found evidence of contagion in developed and emerging markets during the global and Eurozone crises. We show that contagion spread from the United States to the world markets during both crises. Our regression results identify that the bank risk transfer between the United States and other countries is the key transmission channel for cross-country correlations. This study has an important policy implication for portfolio diversification between the United States and other countries during these crises. © 2015 Elsevier B.V.

    Industries across world use different methods to secure the quality of the contract deliverables. These deliverables are carefully defined in an agreement between project owner and agent (buyer and seller) however, there are several reasons that the quality of the outcome does not fulfill the desired pre-agreed quality. In aerospace as well as power & energy industries, the delivered products (outcome of the contracts) should endure a long lifespan. Although guarantee and warrantees are being used in contracts to secure the quality of the outcome for a short period of time after delivery, in several cases, the quality of the delivered product fails right after guarantee expiration date. Therefore, guarantee and warrantee are not considered to be a preventive means while the requirement for such preventive tool is undeniable. This case study gathers data from aerospace as well as power and energy industries on how these two industries shape up their agreements and what sort of incentives they use and if these applied incentives have assisted them to reach the target. These data will be analyzed in comparison to similar conducted research in this field.

    Genom att undersöka psykologiska mekanismer hos ideellt engagerade i en studentkår söktes stöd för studiens syfte samt två frågeställningar. Om det finns något samband mellan varför en individ blev motiverad till att engagera sig ifrån början och varför denne är motiverad till att fortsätta vara engagerad i studentkåren samt vilka känslor individen kan känna vid sitt engagemang och vad som utlöser dessa känslor. Genom en webbaserad enkät samlades data in ifrån respondenterna (N= 44). Individerna som besvarade enkäten tillhörde en liten studentkår vid en högskola och var eller hade varit ideellt engagerade. Datan analyserades utifrån Spearman’s korrelationstest i SPSS samt ATLAS.ti som användes vid bearbetning av fritextsvaren. Resultatet visade på att de inre motivationsorsakerna var starkare än de yttre motivationsorsakerna till fortsatt ideellt engagemang. Resultatet visade även på att känslor och attityder hängde samman då positiv attityd genererade positiva svar.

    With few exceptions reduced payroll taxes are analysed with regards to employment and wage effects. Our study extends the impacts to cover several possible firm outcomes using a multilevel modelling approach. Between 20-55 percent in the variation in the outcomes can be explained by municipality differences. On firm level the result follows a clear business logic. In the short run, profits and turnover increased wish later on transforms into increased wages. After seven years we find indication of impacts on investments. Thus, the support has some short-term impacts that are reduced with time and the long-term effects are questionable.

    Gross Domestic Product Growth Correlations: Multi Country Study with Focus on China and India2014Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Oppgave

    Analyses of the dependence of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rates on seven variables; Logistic Performance (LGI), Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Adult Literacy Rate (ADLR), Gini Index (GI), % Service Share of the GDP (SSG) and Global Innovation Index (GII) have been performed in this study. A regression model has been presented where growth rate is taken as a function of seven factors. It has been seen that Gini Index, Foreign Direct Investment and level of corruption Index has shown positive correlation with the growth. However, service share of GDP has shown negative correlation with the growth. This reflects that increase in FDI can increase the growth and increase in corruption can decrease the growth. Manufacturing or industry sector % should increase as service % has shown a negative correlation. GII, ADLR and LGI have not shown any significance in the regression analysis. The model has been further used to compare the growth perspective for China and India. It has been seen that India has certain advantages such as demographic dividend and democratic governing model which can help in sustainability of the growth.

    Trust Related Behavior and Person-Job Fit Among University Graduates in Europe: Evidence from REFLEX Survey2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Oppgave
    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to explore the preconditions of trust. Using a sample of more than 13,000 university graduates in Europe, the impact of competence mismatch on trust-related behavior (designated below as trust) is investigated. The existing literature estimates the overall impact of skills matches on job outcomes, while this study explores the links between nineteen skills/competencies and trust. Theoretical analyses are grounded in one of the mainstays of management studies: a “fit theory” that conjectures that the performance of an individual is driven by the extent to which the environment is congruent with that individual’s personal characteristics. Using simple logistic regression analysis, we find a non-monotonic link between competence mismatch and trust-related behavior. The effects of underskilling on trust is stronger in comparison to a surplus of required skills and competencies.

    Abstract [en]

    This study sets out to investigate the role of affectivity in crisis management groups and its connection to effective crisis management. We studied the affective reactions in 23 crisis management groups in a major global corporation that participated in a global training program of crisis management. Our results elucidate a condition of asymmetrical affectivity, where positive expressions are associated with negative outcomes and negative expressions are associated with positive outcomes when groups commit to making sense of a crisis. These patterns were moderated by prior crisis experience at the organizational level as well as managerial behavior at the individual level. To explain this multi-level and dynamic complexity of crisis management effectiveness, we theorize a model of adaptive strategizing building on the strategy-as-practice perspective. The model contributes to the strategic management literature on organizational crisis, and especially the stream that focuses on social-emotional aspects of crisis management, by explaining why some organizations’ crisis management groups strategize more effectively than others.

    Swedish healthcare is facing major challenges both today but more critically looking at predictions for the next 20 years. Healthcare costs will increase dramatically and competent personnel to support all the needs will be lacking. E-health solutions and the possibilities they open up regarding how care can be organized and administrated are seen in Sweden as the most important tool to counter those healthcare challenges. The Swedish government see this as a prioritized area and has together with Sveriges Kommuner och Landsting (SKL) signed on a vision to become the world leader in E-health by the year 2025. Studies have shown that E-health can give substantial cost savings with up to 180 billion SEK in saving yearly. We have in this thesis investigated to what extent E-health solutions in the area of chronic diseases are used by Regions/Counties as well as the outcome from a cost saving perspective. Problem formulation and the questions that have been investigated are, which E-health solutions are the different Swedish Regions/County councils (Landsting) using for chronic diseases and what are the cost (and capacity) benefits? What challenges are seen to implement new E-health solutions? We have been using the case study method in our research with interviews and questionnaires with the Regions/County councils as our main source of information. In our contacts we have explained that answers given in the general discussion will be anonymous and not to be linked to any specific Region/County council. This approach was made to get frankly and informative answers. Key findings are that there are today not many E-health solutions for chronic diseases made available by the County councils and the ones offered are generally not reaching a large percentage of the population with those diseases. The implementation curve for E-healthsolutions has been slow, but it differs considerably between regions. We can see that in the northern regions with more rural areas focus is put on solutions to solve the challenges with geographical distance to the patient. In the southern regions with more urban areas the regions more commonly use models to facilitate care for the patient in their home environment. We see a large potential to both improve quality of life for many people as well as reducing costs for healthcare by introducing digital tools in the area of chronic diseases. Especially methods easily accessed for a large part of the population through the 1177.se portal that can be used without extensive support from healthcare staff is something we see as an important area. Those methods have a potential to reach and impact a large part of the population without using much of healthcare resources. We suggest that regions collaborate in order to evaluate and introduce those systems and in the end reach a larger part of the population
