    Design of user-centred wireless sensor technology in sports - an empirical study of elite kayak athletes2011Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

    University research is demanded to be more need-driven and user- centred in order to address and solve problems and needs of the market. In the present study a group of athletes and coaches has been analysed on their lead user characteristics. Some of the lead users have contributed with advanced user insights and aid in trend foresight in this sport. In a combined qualitative and quantitative approach the value of lead users in sports technology was examined and five users were identified as lead users. In consistence with previous research the results indicate that involving lead users will foster superior insight and research.

    Abstract [en]

    Creativity and innovation are two forces that impel industries. Product design is often assigned to a team consisting of members from different backgrounds. To support the collaboration, there are many special places built for creativity and innovation, referred to as “creative space” in this thesis. Doing the project in a well-designed creative space can enhance creativity and productivity.However, most creative spaces are still using the facilities and furniture from common conference rooms, even though they are built for other purposes. Due to different working modes, the conference room does not suit for group design processes. It is still not widely accepted that what features the creative space should have to enhance the creativity.In order to design the creative space that meets the needs of the design teams, research has been done to identify the influencing factors that impact creativity. Based on these factors, observations and interviews are also carried out to analyze the influencing factors and gather data. The general concept and final solution is generated based on all the researches.As a result of this thesis, the prototype of a creative desk is carried out at the end. Some fundamental researches and discussions about the creativity stimulation are also analyzed to shed some light on this research field.

    Challenges for industrial product/service systems - Experiences from a learning network of large companies2009Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

    In Sweden, manufacturers have a growing need to extend the control of their products in the supply chain. This need is fulfilled by some manufacturers through the use of a product/service system business approach. This paper explores how a group of Swedish manufacturers, working together with academia, have started a workshop series where the most important and topical issues for their integrated product/service offering approaches are dealt with. The large company network studied in this paper faces many challenges in order to achieve a good product/service system business. Much of these challenges are related to changing different peoples' mindset whether it is within the company and/or with external companies and customers. Having a learning network approach of dealing with these challenges has so far been perceived as a good manner of tackling the questions raised within the product/service system providing companies.

    Produktionsflödesanalys: Förstudie av nya produktionsflöden för golvprodukter2019Självständigt arbete på grundnivå (högskoleexamen), 12 poäng / 18 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)

    Examensarbetet genomfördes i samarbete med Tarkett AB i Ronneby med syfte att konstruera ett nytt produktionsflöde vilket ska minska stopp i flödet samt nå en produktionsökning på 15%. Det nya flödet ska sedan planeras i den givna hallen. Leanprinciper är grunden för det nya flödet och metoder som värdeflödesanalys och ledningsverktyg används för att göra en nulägesbeskrivning. Information samlades in genom observationer som utfördes genom “att gå längs flödet”, intervjuer och teorin kring lean för att analysera flödet. Värdeflödesanalys gjordes på det befintliga flödet för att sedan kunna skapa framtida flöden. Idégenerering utfördes för att få fram olika koncept till nya alternativa flöden. Dessa koncept har sedan utvärderats genom verktyg och med generell bedömning. Ett koncept har valts ut att gå vidare med för fortsatt analys och försök att planera i den givna hallen för att få en förståelse hur flödet skulle fungera med de begränsningar som finns.

    En värdeflödesanalys gjordes för det befintliga flödet för att få överblick och ta fram värdehöjande och icke värdehöjande aktiviteter. Flödet begränsas av produktionsstopp på grund av aktiviteter som är icke värdehöjande och en flaskhals i produktionen som begränsar hastigheten på hela flödet. Alternativa flöden har tagits fram. Det flöde som valdes är ett lådflöde där materialet fylls i lådor för att sedan skickas vidare till maskinen som producerar golv av materialet. Lådorna kan fyllas 15 % snabbare men flaskhalsen kan fortfarande ej ta emot denna ökning. Lösningen blir kontinuerligt flöde på alla processer som det går att ha ett kontinuerligt flöde och ett buffertlager som förbrukas med jämna mellanrum där material i lådor minskar produktionsstopp eftersom lådorna ej är direkt kopplade till resten av linjen och därmed inte blir direkt påverkad utan fortsatt tillverkning kan ske. Flaskhalsen kan inte reduceras, men med lådflöde kan buffertlager användas. Med detta kan material från extrudern (råmaterial) som egentligen skulle gå till att fylla lådor skickas mot en annan linje. Detta leder till att två linjer kör samtidigt och här finns produktionsökningen.

    Genom att undvika produktionsstopp som orsakas av det befintliga flödet kan det ge en produktionsökning på närmare 8 % och möjlighet att köra flera linjer samtidigt kan ge ytterligare produktionsökning men är svår att uppskatta. En fortsatt analys behöver genomföras av flödet innan det kan implementeras i verkligheten.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper is based on the hypothesis that introducing distribution of mechanical properties is beneficial for modeling all kinds of mechanical behavior, even of ordinary metallic materials. To bring proof of its admissibility, it has to be first shown that modeling based on this assertion is able to efficiently describe standard mechanical behavior of materials. Searching for typical study case, it has been assessed that at a low scale, yield stresses could be strongly distributed in ultrathin aluminum foils used in packaging industry, offering opportunities to identifying their distribution and showing its role on the mechanical properties. Considering initially reduced modeling allow to establish a valuable connection between the hardening curve and the distribution of local yield stresses. This serves for finding initial value of distribution parameters in a more sophisticated identification procedure. With finally limited number of representative classes of local yield stresses, concretely 3 is enough, it is shown that a 3D finite element simulation involving limited numbers of elements returns realistic behavior of an ultrathin aluminum foil exerted to tensile test, in reference to experimental results. This gives way to large possibilities in modeling in order to give back complex experimental evidence. © 2018 Author(s).

    PROPERTIES OF TRANSFORMER OIL THAT AFFECT EFFICIENCY.2014Studentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract. Transformer explosions caused by dielectric failure account for over 50% of the disasters. The aim of this thesis is to examine, compare and outline the differences, in function, as dielectric insulators, vegetables oil has, with respect to the mineral oil used in high-power transformers. We will first consider the vegetable oil which has less dielectric capabilities than the mineral oil used in power transformers. Later in the experiments, we will focus mainly to examine the breakdown voltage property, as we try to alter some properties of the respective oils used. Considering the fact that vegetable oil has low viscosity, with its chemical compounds constituting less molecular masses compared to mineral oil, we endorse, from our experimental findings, that mineral oil is indeed worthy and reasonable to be used as a dielectric in high power transformers. In this write-up, we have considered eleven transformer oil properties. In the experiment proper, we considered only the acidity, whose concentration in the transformer oil increases with aging if the transformer, moisture, and a ‘suitable’ impurity like NaOH(aq). At first glance, one would be tempted to think, as we were, that since the increase in acid content of the oil deteriorates its dielectric performance, an increase in alkaline content of the transformer oil, would increase its dielectric ability; reversing the acid effect. But as we see in the results from our experiments, this is false. We think that the visible degradation of the insulating property of the oil, with the introduction of NaOH(aq), is because it acts as an impurity to suitable dielectric function. From the experiments, the heating procedures resulted in the production of toxic gases. This indicated the actual loss of chemical structure and significant breakage of chemical bonds. The resulting chemical composition of the oil does not produce the same dielectric properties as the initial oil sample. Also, here has been considerable inconsistency in the addition of NaOH(aq) or HCl(aq) to both oils. We only added HCl(aq), before every measurement, in two of the experiments. The other experiments were either with moisture, or a single addition of 2cm3 of either HCl(aq) or NaOH(aq) before heating; after which several measurements were taken, at specific intervals, as the mixture cools. We did so, in the latter, in which we had only one addition of a 2cm3 chemical, because in real life, given the short time frame of the experiment, the total amount of acid in the oil has a negligible change. So, in a functioning heated transformer, within a short time frame, there is actually deterioration in oil insulation properties

    Abstract [en]

    Recently trade-off among producers, customers and society/ environment is one of the most popular concerns in industry. This issue conducts the decision making by manufacturers on the selection between two alternative techniques, ECM and MM. The purpose of this study was to explore the problem in how to assess the value of a product/ service in the early stages of the design activity. Through the simulation tool of System Dynamics, a model helps to quantify all the values which were involved. The result of this model was that the coming 10 years NPVs of two alternatives were assessed. Contrasting the alternatives on different manufacturing processes and market conditions, the decision makers could find out an appropriate scenario with an appropriate technique. This approach was verified to ensure the accuracy and practicability.

    Towards sustainability-driven innovation through product-service systems2011Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

    Many current sustainability considerations in industry constrain design space by emphasizing reduced material and energy flows across product life cycles. However, there are also opportunities for sustainability awareness to extend design space and drive innovation. Product-service systems (PSS) in particular can be a vehicle through which sustainability-driven innovation occurs. A framework for strategic sustainable development, including a backcasting approach, provides the basis for understanding sustainability in this work and provides insight into how incremental and radical approaches could be aligned within product innovation. This work explores how sustainability considerations can be better integrated into existing product innovation working environments, with an emphasis on opportunities that occur as sustainability knowledge leads to innovation through a product-service system approach. It is demonstrated and ideas are discussed around how sustainability can be used to drive innovation processes through product-service systems that companies rely upon, while also supporting global society’s movement toward sustainability.

    Examensarbetet behandlar problematik som uppstår vid härdsmältningsförlopp i en kärnkraftsreaktor av typen kokvattensreaktor. Resultatet ska användas som riktlinjer till strategier som utvecklas av Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMG) där arbetets uppdrag är ett delmoment i framtagning av strategier för att bemästra de olika fenomen som uppstår vid härdsmälta.   Syftet med arbetet är att undersöka begränsningar för att bevara reaktortanken intakt vid haveri, genom att undersöka den minsta mängd vatten som behövs för att undvika tankgenomsmältning. Undersöka fallen som leder till härdsmälta och gruppera dem efter händelsesekvenser. Undersöka metall/vatten-reaktionen som uppstår då härden blir över 800°C och undersök om fallen kan grupperas i händelsesekvenser.  Metoder som används i arbetet är PSA-dokumentation, händelseutvecklingsträd, teoretiska beräkningar och MAAPv5.03. Resultatet beskriver att grupperingar av fallen som slutar i härdsmälta och grupperingar av metall/vatten-reaktionen hos de olika fallen kan genomföras. Resultatet beskriver även ett minsta flöde som kan föras in i reaktortanken för att hindra tankgenomsmältning och flöden upp till 100 kg/s så det finns resultat för olika flöden beroende på vilka kylmedel som är tillgängliga.  Slutsatsen av arbetet är att fall kan grupperas efter händelsesekvenser och påverkan hos metall/vattenreaktion, grupperingarna sparar tid vid ett haveriförlopp. I varje grupp kunde det svåraste fallet beräknas för minsta flöde för att klara tankgenomsmältning och flöden upp till 100 kg/s.  Framtida arbeten bör undersöka trycket och vätgasen som skapas vid vatteninmatning samt dess påverkan på reaktorinneslutningen.

    A wide variety of expert competencies, transcending traditional disciplines, are needed to foresee and evaluate the impact of decisions in the conceptual phase of engineering design. Where this previously was a trade-off regarding design and development of the pure physical artefact it is now a complex ambiguity game involving all disciplines touching a solution during its lifecycle, due to the movement towards integrated product-service solutions. Gathering the involved, normally diverse, group of stakeholders in a collaborative setting for design exploration exercises, sharing knowledge and values, is believed to augment decision making ability in early design. A model-driven environment for collaborative decision making is proposed as a solution that potentially may help harvesting these benefits. In this environment stakeholders interact with each other using digital models, model generated information, simulation data and product data collected in the field in order to evaluate design proposals by playing out potential usage scenarios and investigating cause and effect relationships. Initial work on conceptualizing, developing, and testing such an environment is done through a pilot study based on two industrial use cases. The development process iteratively unveils demands and constraints related to the environment. These discoveries go hand in hand with developing an infrastructure regarding both hardware and software as well as required human resources in a functional environment. Fully realizing the envisioned model-driven environment for collaborative decision making entails new ways of working requiring new knowledge as well as technological innovation. In that aspect, environment infrastructure and usage are elaborated on and direction for further research and development is indicated.

    Measuring innovation capability in technology-focused development2010Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

    Product development in the aerospace industry is associated with relatively long lead times and product lifecycles, which means that it takes years and even decades to find out if a novel product or technology concept fully realizes its potential and becomes an innovation on the market. How can a company in such an industry context know, preferably already in the conceptual stages, that they are on the path to innovation? How do they know how innovative they are? How can they increase their innovation capability? A project together with Volvo Aero, an aero engine manufacturer, was initiated to explore potential answers to these questions. The paper reports on an ongoing study of the company’s current state-of-practice with regard to measuring innovation capability, starting from a range of innovation indicators provided within a previous research project, which Volvo Aero contributed to. Based on interviews with project managers of advanced engineering projects within the company, six areas were found to be of importance in order to more effectively measure the innovation capability at Volvo Aero: Project selection, Customer involvement, Interaction between functions, Team climate, Innovation methodology and Innovation rewards. Within these areas a selection of preliminary metrics was established, which will be presented in this article along with a discussion on the advantages and drawbacks of combining activity and effect measures to better relate particular activities to particular outcomes.

    Measuring innovation capability - Assessing collaborative performance in product-service system innovation2011Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

    This paper reports on a qualitative study, carried out at a Swedish aero engine manufacturer. The study was initiated to explore key indicators related to innovation capability in a Product-Service System (PSS) context. Developing PSS changes the dynamics of collaboration, since the offering of such systems usually involves a network of partners sharing the responsibility for a delivered function over a full lifecycle. In particular, this paper focuses on describing aspects related to external and internal collaboration, and it further discusses how to measure the company’s collaborative performance, taking into account both activity and effect measures.

    With the development of the transport, the traffic is more and more crowed. And another reason which is the price of the vehicle is cheaper. So much more people can buy the cars, thus, the road is more crowd, people should park their cars which need a lot of area, so we can see lots of parking lots in the city, but the classical parking system cannot reach the requirements nowadays. So, we should a new parking system.

    So, in this report, we will introduce a new parking lot and system, which includes the modelling, programming, material stress analysis and motors.

    At first, we reference the classical parking lots and some new parking lots. We find some problem about them which have not enough area and non-automated. Thus, we design a dimensional parking lot with programming. Which can realize automatic.

    Secondly, we use the inventor 2017 to build the model and analysis about stress concentration. We also use inventor to simulation the action about our parking lot. In the model, we use the hydraulic system to drive the lift, which can up and down to park the cars, and we create a new system to fix the wheels to make sure the cars cannot move in the movement procedure.

    Finally, our parking lot is an automatic and dimensional project. We will show you much more detail about our project, we hope our project will improve the parking lots to make people’s life better and convenient.

    Cylinder gas seal is an advanced seal technology. This paper presents the results of a study on the influence of T groove layout on the performance characteristic of the cylinder gas seal. A literature survey of previous cylinder gas seal shows that the research of groove type focuses mainly on the spiral groove. As the result of this, the stability performance of cylinder gas seal geometry of T groove was analyzed in typical turbomachinery operating conditions. The different layouts of the performance characteristic of T groove are compared in Fluent. Therefore, the optimized layout of negative ‘T+’ can be obtained in the end. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2019.

    The attention to sustainability impacts arising during the lifecycle of products is growing as industry wants to increase its contribution to a sustainable society. To do so, companies must find ways to navigate the complexity of the needs within the socio-ecological system in which they operate. In engineering design projects, the interpretation of needs into requirements is essential, as they represent the collective understanding of the design problem to be solved. Ideally, requirements are possible to verify and validate, which makes it challenging for industry to integrate socio-ecological considerations, often based on qualitative models, into requirements. Sustainability then tends not to be prioritized in trade-offs with traditionally identified requirements for engineering design.

    A qualitative research approach within design research methodology framed a sequence of studies guided by the research question ‘How can requirements be utilized to support Sustainable Product Development?’ First, a research gap was identified from a literature review which indicated a lack of socio-ecological systems contextualization in the identification, as well as the traceability of sustainability criteria to integrate into requirements. Secondly, a conceptual model was established for how management of requirements can be improved to facilitate traceability, as well as how contextual socio-ecological systems perspective can be introduced in the selection, of sustainability criteria for engineering design projects. For this purpose, the results from a multiple-case study based on semi-structured interviews with seven design and manufacturing companies was triangulated with findings of an in-depth literature analysis. Five key elements of management of sustainability in requirements were proposed in a profile model corresponding to different levels of sustainability maturity. A third study explored, based on literature and prototype causal loop diagramming, the potential of a group model building approach to enhance contextual understanding of strategically identified, i.e., company-tailored, sustainability criteria in relation to traditional requirements in early phases of the product innovation process. A final study investigated how a strategic sustainability perspective can be integrated with engineering design methods and value modelling to create a decision support for concept selection.

    The studies together indicate that key constituents of good requirements, traceability and systems contextualization, can be achieved also for socio-ecological sustainability considerations. This requires organizational commitment and will be reflected in the design of the operational management system for their product innovation process. Following the proposed five key elements of sustainability integration in requirements, a company is expected to increase the organizational sustainability maturity, and hence its capability to contribute to a sustainability transition. This research also shows that there is a gap in current methods and tools for enhanced socio-ecological systems contextualization. The two last studies of this thesis give promising approaches of tools and methods to be further developed and analyzed, namely group model building, system analysis and value modelling.

    Abstract [en]

    This research provides insights into how sustainability considerations in engineering product design can be addressed through early stages of requirement management processes. Five key elements for successful implementation of sustainable product development from a requirement management perspective are presented, demonstrating how organisational sustainability maturity can be linked to the design and structure of a company’s operational management system. Through a thematic analysis of fifteen interviews with representatives from seven Swedish product developing-and manufacturing companies, critical activities and roles, examples of methods and tools utilisation and implementation, together with challenges and opportunities were identified. This empirical data was used to develop, test and refine a model in which key characteristics of sustainable product design and engineering design were coupled, resulting in a profile model for management of sustainability in requirements. Product developing companies can use the profile model as guidance towards necessary actions that enhance organisational sustainability maturity. Motivated by a low uptake rate of sustainability design tools in industry, this study brings attention to organisational capabilities for successful implementation of sustainable product development. As a lack of traceability is a potential cause, strategic socioecological contextualisation of needs is suggested to improve the chain of decision making in engineering design projects. The guiding research question was ‘What are sustainability requirements and how are they identified and managed in design projects?’. The main contribution is a proposed conceptualised model that aims to support design teams to identify and manage sustainability in requirements for engineering design projects. Future studies will test and validate the model.

    Abstract [en]

    A procedure based on finite element (FE) modeling, response surface-based model updating and random vibration analysis is presented to predict the fatigue life of plastic ball grid array (PBGA) components mounted on daisy chain printed circuit board (PCB). A specially designed fixture is used to mimic the typical boundary condition of plug-in PCBs. The FE model is updated through three consecutive stages. In each stage, the first three resonant frequencies are calculated using ANSYS and correlated with modal test results. Two objective functions are created using resonant frequencies and minimized using a multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA). The results show that commercial FE software can be used to improve the accuracy of the FE model in a practical way. Random vibration analysis is performed and good agreement with test result is obtained. The resistance of the specially designed daisy chain PCB is monitored. A two-parameter Weibull distribution is used to fit the PBGA failure time. The Von Mises stress power spectral density (PSD) of the critical solder joints is calculated in ANSYS and transferred into time-history data. The rainflow cycle counting (RFCC), the S–N curve and the Miner’s rule are used to estimate the cumulative damage. The calculated fatigue life agrees well with the test results.

    In today's highly competitive industries, engineers are driven to not only design a better product to fulfill users' needs but also demanded to develop a product in a short time to occupy the market. With the development of data collection and visualization technology, the application of data visualization into product development to enhance the ability of better product design is a significant trend. 

    Data visualization becomes more and more important since it could illustrate the valuable information, such as tacit needs and patterns which hidden from data, in a communicated way to help engineers get more inspiration for the conceptual design.

     

    It is not hard to collect data; however, the challenge is to visualize the valuable information from a large number of data concisely and intuitively. In recent years, there are some visualization techniques available for product design, while, most of them are implemented in the later stage of product development, few methods are applicable for conceptual design. Therefore, this thesis is carried out to explore appropriate visualization techniques to provide support for conceptual design.

     

    The aim of this thesis is, in an engineering environment, to investigate ways to visualize complex data legibly and intuitively to enhance engineers’ ability for conceptual design from better understanding the current machine. In order to achieve the objective, a conceptual design case of the improvement of wheel loader fuel consumption is applied, which consisted of plenty of data sets within various parameters, to explore how to reveal the hidden information of complex data for engineers.

     

    As the result of this thesis, a prototype contains a series of visualization techniques is proposed to demonstrate data information from a wheel loader under several visualization situations. The final prototype has the functions of visualizing different operations separately; visualizing the overall fuel consumption in one operation; cluster's patterns visualization; visualizing the impact of one variable on the whole value.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: This paper aims to investigate necessity of ambidexterity for organizations. The main interest of this thesis is to investigate why organizations should be ambidextrous and how organizations can reach ambidexterity under the pressure of limited resources and competitive market condition. Findings: This thesis explored relations and tensions between exploitation and exploration in organizational and individual aspects. Findings in the research show that communication skill of the subunits in the case company need to be strengthened. Subunits need to be independent from each other. However, they should be aware of other subunits’ actions. In this sense, there is need for strong information flow between all units in the case company. Participation of employees and teamwork should be promoted by leaders. This thesis suggests that establishing special subunits for explorative activities would not only leverage explorative processes in the organizations but it would also leverage exploitative activities. This issue causes time management and scheduling problem for the employees and also individuals are distracted by focusing on conflicting dimensions such as explorative and exploitative tasks. Behavioral integrity is one of the most important subjects. Behavioral integrity is the key factor to provide consistency between subunits. Independent subunits with common vision lead firms to ambidexterity. Implications: The implications of this study contribute to achievement of organizational ambidexterity in companies. This thesis was started with introduction to importance of ambidexterity, organizational ambidexterity, exploration and exploitation in case of long and short term organizational performance in sight of knowledge based and managerial perspective. It also explored relations and tensions between these dimensions such as exploration and exploitation in terms of organizational and individual aspects, contextual and structural ambidexterity, social support and performance management, dynamic and ambidextrous capabilities with implication of case study research.

    Nowadays, people have a boat of themselves become more and more popular. People use their boat for fishing trip and taking holiday. However, most of them do not want to take care of their boat by themselves. One of the reasons might be the place of a boat occupied. Recently, a method has been used is to store boat on the Boat Hotel. They pay for the rent of a boat garage and also hire someone to take care of their boat. Place the boat on the boat shelf with several layers is the most common method. They use forklift to take in/out the boat when boat owner need use their boat. On the conditional of this situation, if we want to take a boat which is inside of boat shelf, then we need take all outside boat out.  It’s really an inefficiency way, so we need improve it.

    In this study, we aim to design a Boat Storage System based on the existing shelf and meet all requirement of existing boat. This system should be reliable, efficient, economic, operable and flexible.

    The main function of the Boat Storage System is to take in/off the boat more quickly and automatically and efficiently. The system is similar with the stereo parking garage. Which have a paternoster controlled by PLC program. Consider of the boat is heavier than the car. Our storage structure should be more stable.

    Our design only need one person to operate it. The whole process will cost few seconds. This building will be established in the water. Therefore, the owner only need to push the button and then the boat will be prepared in the water automatically.

    The modelling and assembly was designed in Autodesk Inventor 2017. This hardware circuit of PLC was drawn in AutoCAD. The software to design the PLC is GX Works 2. And we used ANSYS Workbench 17.2 to analysis the structure. The analysis will prove the structure is safety and strong enough. And the simulation will prove the system is possible. Our conclusion is that this system has a good future and general application in the market.

    Abstract [en]

    There is a need to develop approaches and methods for accessing necessary information early into the process of developing innovative (functional) products. Such information is normally located outside the focal company, and thus requires communication and tools/methods that enable decoding weak signals from different sources, not least from end users, i.e., human beings. Information based on human criterions, e.g., perceptions, experiences, activities and goals, is recognised as vital to communicate into the development process of innovative products. In this context, concepts such as Business Intelligence, Bench Learning, Lead-User Innovation, and Needfinding have been developed. In general, the logic behind such approaches is to avoid tunnel-vision and the Not-Invented-Here syndrome by widening the space for input into the product development process, and thereby identify more (and more potential) routes for further product and service development.

    This product presents the design of a useful multi-functional adjustable table. It will bring great convenience to people with disability who spend most of time in bed, so as to meet their daily needs.

    Since there are already many similar products on the market, we focused on updating the functions on table, which can help people reading books or using tablet PC on beds in a comfortable way. It can also support people to stand up and walk around. There is a C-clamp fixing the product consolidated to bed. Besides, the hydraulic and micro-computer systems are used to adjust the table into a proper height automatically.

    The whole structure was designed in Autodesk Inventor 2015, and the simulation, test, analysis experiments were made in Abaqus 6.1.2 to ensure its safety and stability.

    In addition, this design can be an incentive for the improvement of the auxiliary equipment, highlighting the importance of the development of mechanisms for the healthcare.

    As is known to all, the aging problem becomes more and more serious in recent years. The issues “get into and out of a chair”, from one of the self-care tasks of aging people named Functional mobility in ADLs (Activity of daily livings), need to be solved carefully in efficient ways to help seniors and patients who have physical problems dealing with their daily life.

    In this previous investigation, the existing products in the market are normally quite heavy and importable. After combined with the advantages of the existing products and some improvements in portability and comfort which is related to human engineering. A Pneumatic Cushion for Supporting Standing and Sitting Process, based on airbag and pneumatic system which has been designed in this thesis, can be used by user who has physical-trouble for standing up and sitting down. Meanwhile, after being assembled with some specific extra components, it can be used as a mobility aid device.

    For the whole designing process, many relevant article, video sources and websites are referred for the previous researches, including Google Scholar, BTH Digital Library and YouTube. The product was designed and analysed in Inventor 2018 and the fluid dynamic simulation has been done in Abaqus. Studies involved lifting function are selected after the survey about assist appliance and aid appliance market.

    A Customer Aimed Market Analysis for an Innovative Lifting Equipment2014Studentuppsats (Examensarbete)

    Rapporten fokuserar på tre områden som är att utföra en marknadsundersökning, marknadsförings- och försäljnings- strategi samt produktutveckling för ett nystartat företag i Italien, ARS Meccanica Dolomiti och deras nya produkt, Quikky. Målet med arbetet var att komma fram till en strategi som företaget kan använda för att locka till sig kunder. I marknadsundersökningen identifierades både potentiella kunder samt konkurrenter. Liknande produkter som kan utgöra ett hot undersöktes också. Det mesta av informationen kom genom egna undersökningar via Internet. Ett besök till CeMAT mässan i Hannover var även mycket hjälpsam, då en hel del potentiella kunder, konkurrenter och andra samarbetspartner var samlade på ett och samma ställe. Resultatet visar på att det finns en hel del potentalla kunder för produkten. Anledningen till detta är att produkten kan användas i olika tillämpningsområden vilket medför att en större marknad blir möjlig. Nackdelen är att det redan finns många konkurrenter då produkten främst är riktad mot lyftindustrin som är en attraktiv marknad. När det gäller produktutveckling blev det snabbt tydligt att produkten kan utformas på flera andra sätt. Både mini Quikky samt symmetriska Quikky, är två nya versioner av den ursprungliga designen. Dessa två kan vara produker som ARS Meccanica kan sälja. Genom att ha flera versioner av produkten, kan företaget dessutom attrahera till sig fler kunder.

    In this work, a packaging laminate consisting of LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene), Alfoil (Aluminum foil) is focused, and failure due to necking in substrates and interfacial delamination under loading are considered. A coupled elasto-plasticity damage and fracture constitutive model is combined. The proposed constitutive model is incorporated into the FEM code ABAQUS and utilized to simulate a uniaxial tension in the laminate with an interfacial pre-crack. The simulation results show deformation of the laminate agrees well with theoretical results. The new combined constitutive model is proper to study the failure due to necking and interfacial delamination in the laminate. And the interfacial delamination mode in pre-crack tip could be influenced by fracture toughness ratio of mode I, II.

    Nowadays, almost all existing wheelchairs have the problem that they only satisfy the disabled people to use for normal moving and transportation. A new wheelchair with a gear system guide rail which installed in the car is presented in this paper. The gear guide rail system will transport the whole wheelchair and person on it into the car. This wheelchair system will help people with disability whatever passengers or drivers to get into cars automatically. In this paper, the operation and the strength will be analysed through 3D model and theoretical calculations. Surveying to Swedish market, Volvo XC60 and V60 is chosen to design the size of the wheelchair. Besides, this new wheelchair system also can be suitable for the cars which are larger than those two car models.

Volvo XC 60 and V60 as well as a foldable wheelchair have been chosen in this work.

    Abstract [en]

    Data shows that elderly people are more likely to live alone than younger people, meanwhile the percentage of elderly people with disabilities increases significantly with age. These trends and facts bring a number of issues. One of these we would like to solve is that it is difficult and dangerous for them to lift the heavy loads through ladder. Sometimes it is also very dangerous for normal people, not to mention to people with reduced mobility.

    In order to solve these issues and reduce the possibility of accident, we have come up with a new ladder used for attics that can transport the heavy loads automatically.

    As transmission part we use a rack and pinion mechanism to achieve a   smooth transport and a ratchet mechanism for stopper to avoid sudden accident drops.  The ladder also can be hidden when not using it.

      The walker is regarded as a promising solution to provide additional support to maintain balance or stability while walking for elderly people. Significant assistance in improving mobility technology have been observed from literature review. However, the walkers available in the market is possible to optimize in design and include additional functionality, including getting out of the seat at home with caregiver aid, emergency care aided system. Considering falling down is a public healthcare problem, we designed the emergency aided system to rescue them [1].

      In this paper, we proposed a multiple function elderly mobility and emergency aid system, was developed and modelled by Inventor 2015, and finite element analysis. Simulation was then created to get the value of safety factor, and make comparison base on the results from structural calculation. Finally, the application of few features of the improved walker was illustrated.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis is done by two students from Blekinge Institute of Technology as an end of the master of engineering program with emphasis on applied mechanics. The thesis is done in cooperation with Axis Communications AB in Lund which develop surveillance cameras. The task was to design and implement an Angular Vibration Testing Equipment. Axis needs this to test their surveillance cameras for angular vibrations. These vibrations occur usually on cameras located on poles placed at roads and at train stations. The thesis has been carried out in three different phases where the first phase handled a deeper understanding of the problem, planning and investigating of related works. Axis has a solution for smaller cameras called Shakespeare MK I and this was used as an inspiration for us. The second phase included concept generation and concept evaluation. This has been done with brainstorming, workshop and concept scoring. At the last phase a prototype was built and tested and a detailed design was made. Two versions of the prototype were made and they showed that the concept works well. The project resulted in a working prototype that can transform linear motion to rotation around two axes. A drawing and a cost calculation were made for the final concept. The final construction is still not completely optimized and has improvement and adjustment possibilities that might be needed.

    Idag utgör elfordon endast en liten nischmarknad i transportmarknaden, men denna förväntas växa snabbt under de närmaste åren. För att kunna hantera marknadsetableringen av elfordon måste elfordonsladdningsinfrastrukturen byggas ut, vilket leder till en ökad efterfrågan på elfordonsladdningsstationer. Elfordonsladdningsmarknaden förespås således bli allt mer intressant för företag. Detta examensarbete genomförs på grund av detta växande intresse, då studiens syfte är att undersöka elfordonsladdstationsmarknaden och dess konkurrenssituation. Metoden som används i denna studie inbegriper en kort marknadsanalys och en konkurrensanalys. Marknadsanalysen innehåller identifiering av elfordonsladdningsmarknaderna, vad som driver och hindrar marknaderna, och en bedömning av hur framtiden ser ut för marknaderna. I konkurrensanalysen ingår identifiering, klassificering och analys av de olika konkurrenterna. De tio mest konkurrenskraftiga konkurrenterna analyseras med hjälp av dokumentinnehållsanalys, syftet med analysen är att förstå konkurrenternas målgrupper, hur de gör affärer och hur deras marknadsföringsmaterial är strukturerad. De tre mest lovande elfordonsladdningsmarknaderna, både nu och i framtiden, är marknaderna i Asien och Stillahavsområdet, Europa och Nordamerika. De flesta av de analyserade konkurrenterna är verksamma inom dessa tre marknader. Den regionala utvecklingen, och vad som driver och begränsar marknaderna har identifierats för de tre mest lovande marknaderna. Eftersom dessa marknader är relativt oexploaterade i samband med att de förväntas växa med väldigt hög takt det kommande decenniet parallellt med massanvändningen av elfordon är möjligheterna många för de företag som inriktar sig mot elbilsladdning.

    Abstract [en]

    Boring bars with tuned mass dampers have a passive damper tuned with respect to the frequency of the first bending mode of the tool. When the tool is clamped into the machine tool there is a stiffness loss that lowers the natural frequency of the bar compared to ideal clamping conditions. For large tools the difference can be more than 35%, depending on clamping structure, tool size and overhang. In this paper we investigate a simple two-degree-of-freedom model for the tool-machine interaction consisting of a bending mode coupled with a rotational stiff mode. The model gives good insight into the system behavior and fits well with measurements. © 2019 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
