    Abstract [en]

    Based on analysis of a point target imaged by different synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems, the commonly used impulse response function in SAR Imaging (IRF-SAR)—a two-dimensional (2-D) sinc function—is shown to be inappropriate for ultrawideband-ultrawidebeam (UWB) SAR systems utilizing a large fractional signal bandwidth and a wide antenna beamwidth. As a consequence, the applications of the 2-D sinc function such as image quality measurements and spatial resolution estimations are limited to narrowband-narrowbeam (NB) SAR systems exploiting a small fractional signal bandwidth and a narrow antenna beamwidth. In this paper, a more general IRF-SAR, which aims at UWB SAR systems, is derived with an assumption of flat two-dimensional (2-D) Fourier transform (FT) of a SAR image and called IRF-USAR. However, the derived IRF-USAR is also valid for NB SAR systems.

    Abstract [en]

    The paper shows an investigation of the availability of the fast time-domain algorithms to process data collected by synthetic aperture radar systems with circular apertures (CSAR). In the investigation, the reconstruction of CSAR images from data is suggested to be in a ground plane instead of a slant-range plane. The Fast Backprojection (FBP) algorithms are considered to examine the availability of time-domain algorithms for CSAR data processing. However, the availability is also applied to the Fast Factorized Backprojection (FFBP) algorithms. The simulated CSAR data with respect to the CARABAS-II parameters is used.

    A dynamical system is a triple (A, G, α) consisting of a unital locally convex algebra A, a topological group G, and a group homomorphism α: G → Aut(A) that induces a continuous action of G on A. Furthermore, a unital locally convex algebra A is called a continuous inverse algebra, or CIA for short, if its group of units A× is open in A and the inversion map i: A× → A×, a → a-1 is continuous at 1A. Given a dynamical system (A, G, α) with a complete commutative CIA A and a compact group G, we show that each character of the corresponding fixed point algebra can be extended to a character of A. © 2018 by the authors.

    Abstract [en]

    Genetic Algorithm (GA) as a class of Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) is a search algorithm based on the mechanics of natural selection and natural genetics. This dissertation presents the description, solving procedures and application of GA. The definitions of selection, crossover and mutation operators are given in details and an application based on GA in Time Table Problem (TTP) is performed in a new way. Due to its high capability of overall search, GA is particularly appropriate for solving timetabling and scheduling problems. TTP (Time Table Problem) which belongs to NP-hard problem is a special problem concerning resource management. In this dissertation, a new chromosome coding is designed in order to solve TTP more effectively. And the result presented by MATLAB will converge to a steady condition.

    The paper concerns specific problems of color digital picture recognition by use of the concept of fuzzy granulation, and in addition rough information granulation. This idea employs information granules that contain pieces of knowledge about digital pictures such as location of objects as well as their size and color. Each of those attributes is described by means of linguistic values of fuzzy sets, and the shape attribute is also considered with regard to the rough sets. The picture recognition approach is focused on retrieving a picture (or pictures) from a large collection of color digital pictures (images) - based on the linguistic description of a specific object included in the picture to be recognized.

    The paper proposes a new method employed in an intelligent pattern recognition system that generates linguistic description of color digital images. The linguistic description is produced based on fuzzy rules and information granules concerning colors as most important among image attributes. With regard to the color, the CIE chromaticity color model is applied, with the concept of fuzzy color areas.     The paper describes new algorithms proposed for the granular pattern recognition system that retrieves an image from a collection of color digital pictures based on the knowledge contained in the object information granule (OIG). The algorithms use the granulation approach that employs fuzzy and rough granules. The information granules present knowledge concerning attributes of the object to be recognized. Different problems are considered depending on the full or partial knowledge where attributes are "color", "location", "size", and  "shape".

    Abstract [en]

    Internet has made it possible to move towards researcher and article impact instead of solely focusing on journal impact. To support citation measurement, several indexes have been proposed, including the h–index. The h–index provides a point estimate. To address this, a new index is proposed that takes the citation curve of a researcher into account. This article introduces the index, illustrates its use and compares it to rankings based on the h–index as well as rankings based on publications. It is concluded that the new index provides an added value, since it balances citations and publications through the citation curve.

    Abstract [en]

    DC/DC buck converters are cascaded in order to generate proper load voltages. Rectified line voltage is normally converted to 48V, which then, by a bus voltage regulating converter also called the line conditioner converter, is converted to the bus voltage, e.g. 12V. A polynomial controller converter transforms the 12V into to a suitable load voltage, a fraction of or some few voltages. All cascaded converters are individually controlled in order to keep the output voltage stable constant. In this presentation focusing on the polynomial controller converter implemented as Ericsson’s buck converter BMR450. In this paper modeling, discretization and control of a simple Buck converter is presented. For the given DC-DC-Converter-Ericsson BMR 450 series, analyzing the disturbance properties of a second order buck converter controllers by a polynomial controller. The project is performed in Matlab and Simulink. The controller properties are evaluated for measurement noise, EMC noise and for parameter changes.

    Abstract [en]

    A novel idea for perception of object surfaces is presented by so called "shape descriptors". Such idea is as an abstract level to represent the object surface by some real numbers. It has the similar idea like as the Fourier coefficients of mapping a function f(x) to frequency domain by Fourier transform. The main goal of this thesis is to define some of the key issues in understanding of an object shape and also to find a modeling methodology to create the "shape descriptors". The modeling methodology is designed based on a variational interpolation technique. Such technique is used to generate a group of variational implicit functions with help of radial basis functions. In our modeling methodology, we randomly choose some reference points on a set of related concentric spheres around a 3D point cloud data as known values in variational implicit functions. The "shape descriptors" are found from these implicit functions implementing LU decomposition. We show that the "shape descriptors" are invariant to size and positioning (rotation and translation) changes of a shape and they are also effective tools for matching of two similar objects surfaces.

    Cognitive radio networks are a new technology based on which unlicensed users are allowed access to licensed spectrum under the condition that the interference perceived by licensed users is minimal. That means unlicensed users need to learn from environmental changes and to take appropriate decisions regarding the access to the radio channel. This is a process that can be done by unlicensed users in a cooperative or non-cooperative way. Whereas the non-cooperative algorithms are risky with regard to performance, the cooperative algorithms have the capability to provide better performance. Our paper reports therefore a new fuzzy logic based decision making algorithm for channel selection. The underlying decision criterion considers statistics of licensed users channel occupancy as well as information about the competition level of unlicensed users. Our theoretical studies indicate that the unlicensed users can obtain an efficient sharing of the available channels. Simulation results are reported to demonstrate the performance and effectiveness of the suggested algorithm.

    Abstract [en]

    Cognitive radio (CR) networks allow secondary users (SUs) to opportunistically access licensed spectrum, thus providing efficient use of radio resources. Different studies carried out on CR networks have focused on the procedure of spectrum handoff of SUs such as the data transmission in a communication that can be carried out in different channels. In this paper, we consider cellular networks enhanced with facilities for CR communication where a user with a call in progress moves across neighbouring cells, that is, the so-called inter-cell handoff. Our model assumes that the cell gives priority to inter-cell handoff calls over the calls originating within it. A finite queue is used in every cell for SUs, and a fixed number of buffer slots are reserved for the inter-handoff SU calls. With these considerations, we study the transmission performance of SUs by using Markov chains-based modelling approach. The numerical analysis is validated by simulation experiments. We also suggest a fuzzy logic-based hybrid decision-making algorithm to select the best solution for inter-handoff prioritisation. The goal is to optimise the transmission performance of SUs by leveraging their requirements on service completion throughput and waiting time in each cell. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis provides an analytical and two numerical methods for solving a parabolic equation of two-dimensional mean curvature flow with some applications. In analytical method, this equation is solved by Lie group analysis method, and in numerical method, two algorithms are implemented in MATLAB for solving this equation. A geometric algorithm and a step-wise algorithm; both are based on a deterministic game theoretic representation for parabolic partial differential equations, originally proposed in the genial work of Kohn-Serfaty [1].

    Abstract [en]

    Fuzzy set theory was presented for the first time by Professor Lotfi A. Zadeh from Berkeley University in 1965. In conventional binary logic a statement can be true or false, and there is no place for even a little uncertainty in this judgment. An element either belongs to a set or does not. We call these kinds of sets crisp sets. In practice we often experience those real situations that are represented by crisp sets as impossible to describe accurately. A two-valued logic assumes that precise symbols must be employed, and it is therefore not applicable to the real existence. If the information demanded by a system is lacking, the future state of such a system may not be known completely. One of the instruments used to handle the vagueness in the real-world situations is fuzzy set theory, which has been frequently applied in a wide range of areas like, e.g., dynamic systems, militaries, medicine and other domains. Another theory, which copes with the problem of imprecision, is known as rough set theory. It was proposed by Professor Zdzisław Pawlak in Warsaw in the 1980ties. Whereas imprecision is expressed in the category of a membership degree in fuzzy set theory, this is a matter of the set approximation in rough set theory. Due to the definition of a rough set formulated by means of the decision attribute value, two approximate sets of the rough set are determined. These contain sure and possible members of the universe considered, in which the rough set has been defined. One of the objectives of this study is to apply some classical methods of fuzzy set theory to medicine in order to estimate the survival length of gastric cancer patients. We have decided to test the action of fuzzy controllers of the Mamdani and Sugeno type. Two clinical markers, playing roles of the independent variables, have been included in the algorithm as the base information assisting the survival prognosis. Since the model results have been convergent to the expected experimental values then we will intend to make some extensions of the model concerning the larger number of independent variables. We have also utilized rough set classification, to verify the types of operations. These items are discussed in the thesis in conformity with the physicians’ wishes to support results of statistical investigations. The current research is funded by the scientific grant obtained from Blekinge Research Board.

    Fuzzy Set Theory Applied to Make Medical Prognoses for Cancer Patients2014Doktorsavhandling, sammanläggning (Övrigt vetenskapligt)
    Abstract [en]

    As we all know the classical set theory has a deep-rooted influence in the traditional mathematics. According to the two-valued logic, an element can belong to a set or cannot. In the former case, the element’s membership degree will be assigned to one, whereas in the latter case it takes the zero value. With other words, a feeling of imprecision or fuzziness in the two-valued logic does not exist. With the rapid development of science and technology, more and more scientists have gradually come to realize the vital importance of the multi-valued logic. Thus, in 1965, Professor Lotfi A. Zadeh from Berkeley University put forward the concept of a fuzzy set. In less than 60 years, people became more and more familiar with fuzzy set theory. The theory of fuzzy sets has been turned to be a favor applied to many fields. The study aims to apply some classical and extensional methods of fuzzy set theory in life expectancy and treatment prognoses for cancer patients. The research is based on real-life problems encountered in clinical works by physicians. From the introductory items of the fuzzy set theory to the medical applications, a collection of detailed analysis of fuzzy set theory and its extensions are presented in the thesis. Concretely speaking, the Mamdani fuzzy control systems and the Sugeno controller have been applied to predict the survival length of gastric cancer patients. In order to keep the gastric cancer patients, already examined, away from the unnecessary suffering from surgical operation, the fuzzy c-means clustering analysis has been adopted to investigate the possibilities for operation contra to nonoperation. Furthermore, the approach of point set approximation has been adopted to estimate the operation possibilities against to nonoperation for an arbitrary gastric cancer patient. In addition, in the domain of multi-expert decision-making, the probabilistic model, the model of 2-tuple linguistic representations and the hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTS) have been utilized to select the most consensual treatment scheme(s) for two separate prostate cancer patients. The obtained results have supplied the physicians with reliable and helpful information. Therefore, the research work can be seen as the mathematical complements to the physicians’ queries.

    Abstract [en]

    Like data analysis, pattern recognition and data mining, fuzzy clustering also has been applied widely, and successful applications have been reported. In this paper we aim to employ the technique of fuzzy c-means (FCM) cluster to prognosticate the operation possibility on gastric cancer patients. Our purpose is to partition some clinical data in two fuzzy clusters. One of them considers patients who have a chance for successful surgery whereas the other cluster contains the patients without a view for surgery. Each patient is given by characteristic biological markers. The initial values of membership degrees taking place in the partition matrix are usually determined randomly. In this work we will use particularly designed membership functions to calculate the degrees of membership.

    The chapter is composed of two parts. In the first part we aim at employing fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering to prognosticate membership degrees pointing out possibilities for operation and none operation for a set of 25 gastric cancer patients characterized by values of decisive biological markers. The second part handles the technique of mathematical modelling of a common membership function approximating the information collected from the given set of patients. When constructing the equation of the function we are able to determine the operation and none operation diagnosis for an arbitrary gastric cancer patient.

    Abstract [en]

    Strict analytic formulas are the tools derived for determining the formal relationships between a sample of independent variables and a variable which they affect. If we cannot formalize the function tying the independent and dependent variables then we will utilize fuzzy control actions. The algorithm is particularly adaptable to support the problem of prognosticating the survival length for gastric cancer patients. We thus formulate the objective of the current paper as the utilization of fuzzy control action for the purpose of making the survival prognoses.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract—In this paper, two models, one is called the probabilistic model and the other is known as the model of 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic representations, are applied to solve multi-expert decision making issues (MEDM). A MEDM problem is considered, in which a group of physicians are independently asked about assessing the effectiveness of a set of treatment therapies for a prostate cancer patient. The objective of this paper is to find the most common judgment by means of these two models. Moreover, fuzzy linguistic terms are used to express the experts’ opinions and s-parametric membership functions are designed to depict the fuzzy linguistic terms.

    Abstract [en]

    Apart from the probabilistic model and the model of 2-tuple linguistic representations, a new extension of the fuzzy set, known as the hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set can be seen as the third representative of linguistic approaches. In this paper, we focus on multi-expert decision-making problems, in which a group of physicians are independently asked for assessing the effectiveness of a set of treatment therapies. Our goal is to rank the effectiveness of treatment modalities from the most recommended to the contraindicated. Two individual prostate cancer patients have been taken into account in the practical studies. For the first patient, the probabilistic model and the model of 2-tuple linguistic representations have been adopted to accomplish the medical application. Whereas, for the second patient, the approach of hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set has been used to make the medication prognoses. Moreover, the continuous fuzzy numbers in the Left-Right representations are used to mathematically express the experts’ judgments and s-parametric membership functions are designed to represent the fuzzy linguistic terms.

    I denna rapport tas en modell fram över en vält för att simulera vältens hastighet för olika körspaks utslag. Dessutom simulerar modellen det tryck som skapas i vältens hydrauliska system vid olika hastigheter och växlar. I projektet används programmet Simulink för att ta fram en simulerings modell över välten. Olika delmodeller relaterade till vältens hastighet samt trycket i det hydrauliska systemet som sedan används till att bilda modellen av välten.

    In this article we introduce the notion of a controlled group graded ring. Let G be a group, with identity element e, and let R = aS center dot (gaG) R (g) be a unital G-graded ring. We say that R is G-controlled if there is a one-to-one correspondence between subsets of the group G and (mutually non-isomorphic) R (e) -sub-bimodules of R, given by G aSc Ha dagger broken vertical bar aS center dot (haH) R (h) . For strongly G-graded rings, the property of being G-controlled is stronger than that of being simple. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for a general G-graded ring to be G-controlled. We also give a characterization of strongly G-graded rings which are G-controlled. As an application of our main results we give a description of all intermediate subrings T with R (e) aS dagger T aS dagger R of a G-controlled strongly G-graded ring R. Our results generalize results for artinian skew group rings which were shown by Azumaya 70 years ago. In the special case of skew group rings we obtain an algebraic analogue of a recent result by Cameron and Smith on bimodules in crossed products of von Neumann algebras.
