    Abstract [en]

    To be successful in today's competitive market, service providers should look at user's satisfaction as a critical key. In order to gain a better understanding of customers' expectations, a proper evaluations which considers intrinsic characteristics of perceived quality of service is needed. Due to the subjective nature of quality, the vagueness of human judgment and the uncertainty about the degree of users' linguistic satisfaction, fuzziness is associated with quality of experience. Considering the capability of Fuzzy logic in dealing with imprecision and qualitative knowledge, it would be wise to apply it as a powerful mathematical tool for analyzing the quality of experience (QoE). This thesis proposes a fuzzy procedure to evaluate the quality of experience. In our proposed methodology, we provide a fuzzy relationship between QoE and Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. To identify this fuzzy relationship a new term called Fuzzi ed Opinion Score (FOS) representing a fuzzy quality scale is introduced. A fuzzy data mining method is applied to construct the required number of fuzzy sets. Then, the appropriate membership functions describing fuzzy sets are modeled and compared with each other. The proposed methodology will assist service providers for better decision-making and resource management.

    Abstract [en]

    Content: Recent trends show that cloud computing adoption is continuously increasing in every organization. So, demand for the cloud datacenters tremendously increases over a period, resulting in significantly increased resource utilization of the datacenters. In this thesis work, research was carried out on optimizing the energy consumption by using packing of the virtual machines in the datacenter. The CloudSim simulator was used for evaluating bin-packing algorithms and for practical implementation OpenStack cloud computing environment was chosen as the platform for this research.

     

    Objectives:  In this research, our objectives are as follows

    • Perform simulation of algorithms in CloudSim simulator.
    • Estimate and compare the energy consumption of different packing algorithms.
    • Design an OpenStack testbed to implement the Bin packing algorithm.

     

    Methods:

    We use CloudSim simulator to estimate the energy consumption of the First fit, the First fit decreasing, Best fit and Enhanced best-fit algorithms. Design a heuristic model for implementation in the OpenStack environment for optimizing the energy consumption for the physical machines. Server consolidation and live migration are used for the algorithms design in the OpenStack implementation. Our research also extended to the Nova scheduler functionality in an OpenStack environment.

     

    Results:

    Most of the case the enhanced best-fit algorithm gives the better results. The results are obtained from the default OpenStack VM placement algorithm as well as from the heuristic algorithm developed in this simulation work. The comparison of results indicates that the total energy consumption of the data center is reduced without affecting potential service level agreements.

     

    Conclusions:

    The research tells that energy consumption of the physical machines can be optimized without compromising the offered service quality. A Python wrapper was developed to implement this model in the OpenStack environment and minimize the energy consumption of the Physical machine by shutdown the unused physical machines. The results indicate that CPU Utilization does not vary much when live migration of the virtual machine is performed.

    Problemområde: Idag har Internet blivit var mans egendom. Detta innebär tyvärr en hel del problem. Det tydligaste vi står inför idag är att IP-adresserna håller på att ta slut. För att bli av med problemet används olika temporära lösningar ("lappningsteknik") men även en permanent lösning utvecklas, nämligen Ipv6 (Internet Protocol version 6).Det nya protokollet löser adressbristen men har även många andra funktioner så som säkerhet och bättre routinglösningar. Vi ställde oss då frågan varför har ingen övergång skett trots dessa fördelar. Frågeställning: Var i övergången mellan IPv4 och IPv6 står vi idag? Varför har inte övergången mellan IPv4 och IPv6 redan skett? Vilka är de största anledningarna och vilka fler möjliga finns det? Slutsats: Arbetet visar att tiden för en övergång ännu inte är inne. Huvudanledningarna är att det saknas produkter och en allmän anledning för en migration.

    Abstract [en]

    Context: In the present world, there is an increase in the usage of com- munication services. The growth in the usage and services relying on the communication network has brought in the increase in energy consumption for all the resources involved like computers and other networking compo- nent. Energy consumption has become an other efficient metric, so there is a need of efficient networking services in various fields which can be obtained by using the efficient networking components like computers. For that pur- pose we have to know about the energy usage behavior of that component. Similarly as there is a growth in use of large data-centers there is a huge requirement of computation resources. So for an efficient use of these re- sources we need the measurement of each component of the system and its contribution towards the total power consumption of the system. This can be achieved by power profiling of different heterogeneous computers for es- timating and optimizing the usage of the resources.

    Objectives: In this study, we investigate the power profiles of different heterogeneous computers, under each system component level by using a predefined workload. The total power consumption of each system compo- nent is measured and evaluated using the open energy monitor(OEM). Methods: In oder to perform the power profile an experimental test bed is implemented. Experiments with different workload on each component are conducted on all the computers. The power for all the system under test is measured by using the OEM which is connected to each system under test(SUT).

    Results: From the results obtained, the Power profiles of different SUT’s are tabulated and analyzed. The power profiles are done in component level under different workload scenarios for four different heterogeneous comput- ers. From the results and analysis it can be stated that there is a variation in power consumed by each component of a computer based on its con- figuration. From the results we evaluate the property of super positioning principle.

    Title – Promoting Mobile Financial Transactions: A Case study of Zain Sierra Leone Author – Kesiena Atuyota-Ejughemre Supervisor - Anders Hederstierna Department: School of Management, Blekinge Institute of Technology Course: Master’s thesis in business administration, 15 credits (ECTS). Background and Problem Discussion: There are challenges associated with overly cash based societies. The use of mobile financial systems could address some of these challenges. Understanding the factors that influence people’s willingness to use mobile systems for financial transactions could be significant in developing strategies to transition from traditional payment systems to mobile financial transaction systems. Purpose – The purpose of this is to assess contribution of customer trust and perception of customer focus to the willingness of GSM subscribers to use the mobile system for financial transactions and how the understanding derived from these factors can be used to develop strategies to promote a transition from cashed based society to mobile financial transactions. Method- Quantitative and deductive approach was used. 300 GSM respondents who were selected with a multistage sampling method in three locations were surveyed. Interviewers were used to get data on perceived customer focus level, customer trust and willingness to engage in mobile financial transactions. Theory – Theory section looks at the concepts relating to customer trust and customer perception of customer focus and pertinent subconstructs applicable to the engagement in mobile financial transactions. Analysis – I have used correlational analysis to verify the level of association between customer trust, customer focus perception, socio demographic factors and the willingness to engage in mobile financial transactions. In order to verify the influence of income, a non parametric test was done. Conclusions – The analysis of the data results showed that there is a strong positive association between the willingness to use mobile for financial transactions. Also, the analysis revealed a positive correlation between the perception of customer focus by subscribers and the willingness to engage in mobile financial transactions. There was no significant influence by demographic factors such as age and gender on the willingness to engage in mobile financial transactions. A 3 phased implementation strategy was proposed for the deployment of a mobile financial transaction system.

    Abstract [en]

    Microservices are more and more popular. As a result, some companies started to believe that microservices are the solution to all of their problems and rush to adopt microservices without sufficient knowledge about the impacts. Most of the time they expect to decrease their maintenance effort or to ease the deployment process. However, re-architecting a system to microservices is not always beneficial. In this work we propose a work-plan to identify a decision framework that supports practitioners in the understanding of possible migration based benefits and issues.     Dagligen kommer barn till sjukhus inför en planerad operation. De flesta barn är mer eller mindre ängsliga. De kommer till en okänd miljö och vet inte vad som ska hända. Att inte veta vad som ska hända skapar oro och rädsla. Barns oro och rädsla inför planerad operation kan även påverka barnets beteende negativt efter operationen med bland annat separationsångest och sömnsvårigheter. Hur barn reagerar kan bero på olika faktorer som till exempel ålder, tidigare erfarenhet och hur informationen inför operationen ges. Syftet med litteraturstudien var att beskriva barns oro och rädsla inför en planerad operation. Vidare var syftet att beskriva den perioperativa sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsåtgärder som kan minska densamma. Granskning och manifest innehållsanalys gjordes av fem kvalitativa och 10 kvantitativa artiklar. Resultatet visade att barn som skulle genomgå en planerad operation kände att de blev tvingade till en oförutsägbar och plågsam situation som de måste uthärda. De var ledsna och rädda när de kom till sjukhuset. De visste inte vad de ville veta för de hade inte kunskapen om vad som skulle hända. De oroade sig bland annat för själva operationen, smärta och nålar. Oron och rädslan påverkade barnet negativt även efter operationen med ökad smärta och sömnproblem. För att minska barns oro och rädsla finns fler omvårdnadsåtgärder som den perioperativa sjuksköterskan kan använda sig av. Några exempel är information med lek och den perioperativa dialogen. Barn som deltagit i information med lek hade signifikant lägre rädsla både före och efter den planerade operationen. Barn med särskilda behov som informerades med hjälp av den perioperativa dialogen visste innan vad som skulle hända och kände sig inte rädda.

    Bakgrund: En stor del av alla patienter opereras idag dagkirurgiskt vilket innebär att operation och utskrivning sker samma dag. Patienterna vistas därför allt kortare tid på sjukhuset vilket innebär att mötena mellan sjuksköterska och patient också blir korta. Det är den perioperativa sjuksköterskans ansvar att ge en god omvårdnad till den dagkirurgiska patienten för att han/hon ska känna sig trygg, delaktig och välinformerad. För att kunna utveckla och förbättra den perioperativa omvårdnaden är det viktigt att få ta del av patientens upplevelse av denna. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att beskriva patientens upplevelse av den perioperativa omvårdnaden i samband med ett dagkirurgiskt ingrepp vid en öron- näs och hals klinik. Metod: Studien genomfördes som en intervjustudie med sex patienter. Materialet analyserades med hjälp av kvalitativ innehållsanalys efter en modell som beskrivs av Graneheim och Lundman. Resultat: Patienterna är mycket nöjda med personalens omvårdnadsåtgärder som skapar en lugn och trygg känsla. Ur patienternas berättelser framkom informationens påverkan på hela den perioperativa fasen. Patienterna önskade en specifik och individuellt utformad information och en möjlighet till personlig kontakt för att ställa och få svar på frågor innan operationen. Slutsats: Resultatet visade att patienterna upplevde den perioperativa omvårdnaden som god men att informationen och tillgängligheten på vald klinik behöver förändras och förbättras.

    Dynamic vs Static user-interface: Which one is easier to learn? And will it make you more efficient?2019Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Excel offers great flexibility and allows non-programmers to create complex functionality – but at the same time, it can become very nested with cells pointing to other cells, especially if there have been many changes over a more extended period. This has happened to ICS – a small company who has its focus on calibration, out of an array of different things relating to material testing. The system they have for field calibrations today have been overly complicated and hard to maintain and consists of multiple Excel spreadsheets. The conclusion has been that a new system needs to be developed – but question how, remains. By creating a prototype using modern web-technologies, this study has evaluated if a web application can meet the specific functional requirements ICS have and if it is a suitable solution for a new system. The prototype was put under manual user test, and the results find that the prototype meets all the requirements, meaning that a webapplication could work as a replacement. During the user tests, this study has also evaluated the differences in learnability and efficiency of users, between the static user interface of the current Excel-based system and the dynamic user interface of the web-based prototype. The users have performed a calibration with both systems, and parameters such as time to completion or number of errors made have been recorded. By comparing the test results from both systems, this study has concluded that a dynamic user interface is more likely to improve learnability for novice users, but have a low impact on efficiency for expert users.

    Denna rapport analyserar ekosläckning för en full duplex högtalartelefon. Systemet bygger på en LMS-algoritm som har implementerats på en TMS320C3 1 signalprocessor. Arbetet har gått ut på att undertrycka ekon genom utnyttja så mycket som möjligt av processoms kapacitet. Möjligheterna för att två eller fler personer skall kunna tala med varandra på att ledigt sätt genom en högtalartelefon påverkas mycket av de ekon som finns i systemet. Högtalartelefonens mikrofon fångar upp ljudet ifrån sin egen högtalare och skickar detta ljud tillbaka genom telefonnätet. Utan någon form av ekokontroll uppstår ett irriterande eko av sin egen röst i telefonen. Ju längre fardröjning som telefonnätet tillför, ju mer irriterande blir ekot. Konventionella högtalartelefoner använder röstaktivering av mikrofonen för att bli av med ekot. Detta medför att de samtalande partertema inte både kan höra och prata med varandra samtidigt. Detta kallas i kommunikationssammanhang Halv-Duplex. Denna onaturliga form av samtal medför att bägge börjar tala samtidigt och att de avbryter varandra. 1 mitt arbete tittar jag närmare på metoder för ekokontroll med mål att bägge parterna skall både kunna tala med och höra varandra simultant, sk. Full-Duplex, utan rundgång. Teorierna kring adaptiv ekosläckning har varit kända sedan Iänge men det är inte förrän på senare tid som det finns processorer som klarar av beräkningarna’ i realtid. TMS320C3 1 ‘an har inte riktigt den önskvärda beräkningskapaciteten för realtidsberäkning av langa adaptiva FIR-filter. En filterlängd på 300 filter koefficienter uppnåddes. För att nå upp till denna längd användes en metod med adaptering bara på halva bandbredden, 1500 Hz. Den andra halvan av bandbredden, 1500 - 3500 Hz, i ett telefonnät lämnades ofiltrerad. Ett stort bekymmer visade sig vara att finna en lamplig metod för att besluta när adaptering får ske. En enkel sk. taldetektor implementerades för detta endamål.

Results: Our result show that the company we have studied use a combination of the causation -and effectuationprocesses.     Det framkommer i bakgrunden att det i Sverige varje år insjuknar ungefär 90 barn av sjukdomen leukemi. När barnets sjukdom uppkommer är det inte bara barnet som drabbas utan även hela familjen och det kan utlösas en krisreaktion hos de inblandade. Syftet med studien var att belysa föräldrars upplevelser i samband med sjukhusansluten vård i Sverige när barnet i familjen drabbas av sjukdomen leukemi. Metoden som valdes var litteraturstudie innefattande tre skönlitterära böcker skrivna av barnets föräldrar. Analysmetoden som användes var Burnards (1996) innehållsanalys, som görs i fyra steg. I resultatet framgick att föräldrarna kunde uppleva en psykosocial påfrestning och att de blev expert på sitt barns sjukdom. Det fanns dock tillfällen när föräldrarna upplevde glädjestunder i tillvaron blandat med känslor av hopp/hopplöshet. I slutsatsen framgår att stora framsteg inom forskningen av sjukdomen leukemi har gjorts de senaste åren, men fortfarande finns det mycket kvar att göra.

    Software inspections, which were originally developed by Michael Fagan in 1976, are an important means to verify and achieve sufficient quality in many software projects today. Since Fagan's initial work, the importance of software inspections has been long recognized by software developers and many organizations. Various proposals have been made by researchers in the hope of improving Fagan's inspection method. The proposals include structural changes to the process and several types of support for the inspection process. Most of the proposals have been empirically investigated in different studies. This is a review paper focusing on the software inspection process in the light of Fagan's inspection method and it summarizes and reviews other types of software inspection processes that have emerged in the last 25 years. This paper also addresses important issues related to the inspection process and examines experimental studies and their findings that are of interest with the purpose of identifying future avenues of research in software inspection.

    As software development continues to increase in complexity, involving far-reaching consequences, there is a need for decision support to improve the decision making process in requirements engineering (RE) activities. This research begins with a detailed investigation of the complexity of decision making during RE activities on organizational, product and project levels. Secondly, it presents a conceptual model which describes the RE decision making environment in terms of stakeholders, information requirements, decision types and business objectives. The purpose of this model is to facilitate the development of decision support systems in RE and to help further structure and analyse the decision making process in RE.

    The requirements engineering (RE) process is a decision-rich complex problem solving activity. This paper examines the elements of organization-oriented macro decisions as well as process-oriented micro decisions in the RE process and illustrates how to integrate classical decision-making models with RE process models. This integration helps in formulating a common vocabulary and model to improve the manageability of the RE process, and contributes towards the learning process by validating and verifying the consistency of decision-making in RE activities.

Despite this many questions remain unanswered regarding, for example, ideal team size or cost effectiveness. This paper addresses some of these questions by performing an analysis using 30 published data sets from empirical experiments of software inspections. The main question is concerned with determining a suitable team size for software inspections. The effectiveness of different team sizes is also studied. Furthermore, the differences in mean effectiveness between different team sizes are investigated based on the inspection environmental context, document types and reading technique. It is concluded that it is possible to choose a suitable team size based on the effectiveness of inspections. This can be used as a tool to assist in the planning of inspections. A particularly interesting result is that variation in the effectiveness between different teams is considerably higher for certain types of documents than for others. Our findings contain important information for anyone planning, controlling or managing software inspections.

    Abstract [en]

    Remote laboratories are an emergent technological and pedagogical tool at all education levels, and their widespread use is an important part of their own improvement and evolution. This paper describes several issues encountered on laboratorial classes, on higher education courses, when using remote laboratories based on PXI systems, either using the VISIR system or an alternate in-house solution. Three main issues are presented and explained, all reported by teachers, that gave support to students' use of remote laboratories. The first issue deals with the need to allow students to select the actual place where an ammeter is to be inserted on electric circuits, even incorrectly, therefore emulating real-world difficulties. The second one deals with problems with timing when several measurements are required at short intervals, as in the discharge cycle of a capacitor. In addition, the last issue deals with the use of a multimeter in dc mode when reading ac values, a use that collides with the lab settings. All scenarios are presented and discussed, including the solution found for each case. The conclusion derived from the described work is that the remote laboratories area is an expanding field, where practical use leads to improvement and evolution of the available solutions, requiring a strict cooperation and information-sharing between all actors, i.e., developers, teachers, and students.

    Abstract [en]

    Dynamic analysis of damages in materials is a difficult task and it is currently not known what importance different possible mechanisms carry. It is to a large extent due to the difficulty of measuring the dynamic behavior of cracks, debonds and delaminations inside material. It there exists a need to simulate the action of different mechanisms in order to understand the basic physics and possibly identify the signatures of measured vibration and acoustic signals. In this work we study vibrational responses from a specimen which has different types of non-linearities like fractures in it and understand various factors concerned with fracture location, fracture behavior and so on. After finding the fracture location and fracture size, stress intensity factors can be calculated and from them fatigue tests and other failure tests can be done.

    Bakgrund: Prostatektomi är en av de vanligaste behandlingar mot prostatacancer. En av biverkningarna som majoriteten av de män som går igenom ingreppet är urininkontinens. Syfte: Att belysa hur det är att leva med urininkontinens efter en prostatektomi på grund av prostatacancer. Metod: Det är en kvalitativ litteraturstudie baserad på nio artiklar som analyserades utifrån Graneheim och Lundmans modell. Resultat: Män med urininkontinens upplever sitt tillstånd ovärdigt och skäms över att läcka urin. De hanterar sitt tillstånd genom att se det i ett större sammanhang och att prova sig fram med skydd. Slutsats: Att leva med urininkontinens upplevs vara besvärligt. Förändringarna i den kroppsliga funktionen påverkar på sättet att se sig själva och livet. Trots besvären finns dock hopp om försoning med sitt tillstånd.

    Background: Detecting anomalies in time-series data is a task that can be done with the help of data driven machine learning models. This thesis will investigate if, and how well, different machine learning models, with an unsupervised approach,can detect anomalies in the e-Transaction system Ericsson Wallet Platform. The anomalies in our domain context is delays on the system.

    Objectives: The objectives of this thesis work is to compare four different machine learning models ,in order to find the most relevant model. The best performing models are decided by the evaluation metric F1-score. An intersection of the best models are also being evaluated in order to decrease the number of False positives in order to make the model more precise.

    Methods: Investigating a relevant time-series data sample with 10-minutes interval data points from the Ericsson Wallet Platform was used. A number of steps were taken such as, handling data, pre-processing, normalization, training and evaluation.Two relevant features was trained separately as one-dimensional data sets. The two features that are relevant when finding delays in the system which was used in this thesis is the Mean wait (ms) and the feature Mean * N were the N is equal to the Number of calls to the system. The evaluation metrics that was used are True positives, True Negatives, False positives, False Negatives, Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-score and Jaccard index. The Jaccard index is a metric which will reveal how similar each algorithm are at their detection. Since the detection are binary, it’s classifying the each data point in the time-series data.

    Results: The results reveals the two best performing models regards to the F1-score.The intersection evaluation reveals if and how well a combination of the two best performing models can reduce the number of False positives.

    Conclusions: The conclusion to this work is that some algorithms perform better than others. It is a proof of concept that such classification algorithms can separate normal from non-normal behavior in the domain of the Ericsson Wallet Platform.

    In the present paper, the recent method of conservation laws for constructing exact solutions for systems of nonlinear partial differential equations is applied to the gasdynamic equations describing one-dimensional and three-dimensional polytropic flows. In the one-dimensional case singular solutions are constructed in closed forms. In the threedimensional case several conservation laws are used simultaneously. It is shown that the method of conservation laws leads to particular solutions different from group invariant solutions.

    In the present world the heavy machine applications have grown more sophisticated. Crane is designed in such a way to perform the tasks that are hard for human beings, in order to make the work faster and easier. In this area of crane utilization, forwarder movement is the key in performing most of the tasks. Forwarder movement plays an important role in tasks such as collecting logs from the ground and moving them from one place to another. These types of cranes find a wide range of utilization in forestry applications. In order to perform these tasks movement of the forwarder has to be according. Depending on the loads to carry the size of the forwarder also varies. Partial automation of the crane movement in the form of forwarder movement is the area of interest. Aim of the thesis is to concentrate on automation of crane link, to be more specific, the prismatic link. This can be achieved through the verification of the mechanism and similarity of the two algorithms in the Matlab system and in the DASA system.

    The Ghanaian economy has recently received massive growth for various reasons. However, much of the growth is attributed to the recent discovery of crude oil in commercial quantities. This phenomenon has led to the springing up of many Oil Marketing Companies (OMC’S) which of latest count has 84 OMC’S and counting. This number of OMC’s has led to the adoption of various Customer Relationship Marketing (CRM) activities and practices to outwit other competitors in the industry. Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) is one of such OMC’s and the focus of this study. Our study was aimed at studying the complex concept of Customer Satisfaction in the light of the Customer Relationship Marketing practices of the company. We are aware that in order for a company to prosper it must retain its clientele. This study will find out if the CRM practices of GOIL are enough to keep its customers satisfied, loyal and content. The study made use of questionnaires and randomly selected a sample size which signifies 10 % of the total dealer population and corporate customers and 5 lubricant resellers. In conclusion, it was revealed that, the main dimensions of perceived service quality in GOIL are Tangibility, responsiveness and empathy and thus needs to be improved to meet the customer’s satisfaction.

    In this paper we propose a new framework to assess survivability of software projects accounting for media capability details as introduced in Media Synchronicity Theory (MST). Specifically, we add to our global engineering framework the assessment of the impact of inadequate conveyance and convergence available in the communication infrastructure selected to be used by the project, on the system ability to recover from project disasters. We propose an analytical model to assess how the project recovers from project disasters related to process and communication failures. Our model is based on media synchronicity theory to account for how information exchange impacts recovery. Then, using the proposed model we evaluate how different interventions impact communication effectiveness. Finally, we parameterize and instantiate the proposed survivability model based on a data gathering campaign comprising thirty surveys collected from senior global software development experts at ICGSE'2014 and GSD'2015.

    Context

    MongoDB is an open-source, scalable, NoSQL database that distributes the data over many commodity servers. It provides no single point of failure by copying and storing the data in different locations. MongoDB uses a master-slave design rather than the ring topology used by Cassandra. Virtualization is the technique used for accessing multiple machines in a single host and utilizing the various virtual machines. It is the fundamental technology, which allows cloud computing to provide resource sharing among the users.

    Objectives

    Studying and identifying MongoDB, Virtualization on AWS and OpenStack. Experiments were conducted to identify the CPU utilization associated when Mongo DB instances are deployed on AWS and physical server arrangement. Understanding the effect of Replication in the Mongo DB instances and its effect on MongoDB concerning throughput, CPU utilization and latency.

    Methods

    Initially, a literature review is conducted to design the experiment with the mentioned problems. A three node MongoDB cluster runs on Amazon EC2 and OpenStack Nova with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as an operating system. Latency, throughput and CPU utilization were measured using this setup. This procedure was repeated for five nodes MongoDB cluster and three nodes production cluster with six types of workloads of YCSB.

    Results

    Virtualization overhead has been identified in terms of CPU utilization and the effects of virtualization on MongoDB are found out in terms of CPU utilization, latency and throughput.

    Conclusions

    It is concluded that there is a decrease in latency and increases throughput with the increase in nodes. Due to replication, increase in latency was observed.

    Abstract [en]

    Normally speech signals are contaminated with noise and interference that reduces the intelligibility of speech during communication. In order to make speech signals e ective and useful, they need to be enhanced from the noisy speech signal. In speech processing eld many speech enhancement techniques are developed and are providing very good results. Multichannel microphone array is also one of the techniques used for speech enhancement, that provides better results than the single channel speech enhancement. Moreover, Wiener filtering is the most commonly used technique for multichannel microphone array for speech enhancement. The main focus of this thesis is to implement multichannel microphone array using Wiener filtering in the modulation domain system and also in the time domain system to enhance the speech. Both are implemented successfully and validated e ectively by considering diff erent parameters, i,e; Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Signal to Noise Ratio Improvement (SNRI) and Mean Opinion Score (MOS). Both the systems are tested with one female and one male speech distorted with diff erent types of noise at -5dB,0dB,5dB,10dB,15dB and 20dB SNR. The values are calculated for the diff erent number of subbands, as the main focus is on modulation domain system. It provided efficient results in terms of SNRI and MOS score.

    Abstract [en]

    It is important to manage iterative projects in a way to maximize quality and minimize cost. To achieve high quality, accurate project estimates are of high importance. It is challenging to predict the effort that is required to perform test activities in an iterative development. If testers put extra effort in testing then schedule might be delayed, however, if testers spend less effort then quality could be affected. Currently there is no model for test effort prediction in iterative development to overcome such challenges. This paper introduces and validates a dynamic Bayesian network to predict test effort in iterative software development. In this research work, the proposed framework is evaluated in a number of ways: First, the framework behavior is observed by considering different parameters and performing initial validation. Then secondly, the framework is validated by incorporating data from two industrial projects. The accuracy of the results has been verified through different prediction accuracy measurements and statistical tests. The results from the verification confirmed that the framework has the ability to predict test effort in iterative projects accurately.

    Quality of Service is major factor for a successful business in modern and future network services. A minimum level of services is assured indulging quality of Experience for modern real time communication introducing user satisfaction with perceived service quality. Traffic engineering can be applied to provide better services to maintain or enhance user satisfaction through reactive and preventive traffic control mechanisms. Preventive traffic control can be more effective to manage the network resources through admission control, scheduling, policing and traffic shaping mechanisms maintaining a minimum level before it get worse and affect user perception. Accuracy, dynamicity, uniformity and reproducibility are objectives of vast research in network traffic. Real time tests, simulation and network emulation are applied to test uniformity, accuracy, reproducibility and dynamicity. Network Emulation is performed over experimental network to test real time application, protocol and traffic parameters. DummyNet is a network emulator and traffic shaper which allows nondeterministic placement of packet losses, delays and bandwidth changes. KauNet shaper is a network emulator which creates traffic patterns and applies these patterns for exact deterministic placement of bit-errors, packet losses, delay changes and bandwidth changes. An evaluation of KauNet with different patterns for packet losses, delay changes and bandwidth changes on emulated environment is part of this work. The main motivation for this work is to check the possibility to delay and drop the packets of a transfer/session in the same way as it has happened before (during the observation period). This goal is achieved to some extent using KauNet but some issues with pattern repetitions are still needed to be solved to get better results. The idea of history and trace-based traffic shaping using KauNet is given to make this possibility a reality.

    Recently, the financial market has become an area of increased research interest for mathematician and statisticians. The Black and Scholes breakthrough in this area triggered a lot of new research activity. Commonly the research concerns the log returns of assets (shares, bond, foreign exchange, option). The variation in the log returns is called volatility and it is widely studied and because of its relevance for applications in the financial world. The volatility is mostly used for measuring the risk and also for forecasting future prices. In this research work a process of trading activities is considered. It is assumed that at a random time-point a parameter change in the laws of the trading occurs, indicating changed trading behaviour. For inferential matters about the process it is of vital importance to be able to state that such change has occurred quickly and accurately. The methods used to this end are called stopping rules which signal alarm as soon as some statistics based on-line observations goes beyond some boundary. The model considered for this process of log returns is the family of Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedastic (ARCH) model. It is widely accepted that this well describes a lot of phenomena in the financial market. In this work statements about this process will be derived, the stopping rule will be defined, evaluated and their properties discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    Even though research on CSR activities has been on the rise, they do not have generally ratified and widely acclaimed explanation with regard to the variation in consumer response to firms operating within the same industry and supporting the same CSR activities. The aim of this research was to investigate the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in catalyzing consumer choice. The writers used quantitative research method whereby data was collected by means of online questionnaires in an online survey. The analysis was carried out through frequency, descriptive, reliability, correlation and regression analyses. We realized that although a relationship exists between CSR and consumer behavior through the three channels including legitimacy, information asymmetry and ethical decision making, CSR does not drive sales, but increases the appetite for more CSR information for use in product assessment. Therefore, the engagement in CSR may only increase purchasing and evaluation intention, but not the actual purchase. Given that CSR directly results in the increased information search, the best way to orient CSR to stimulate consumer purchase is through the availability of CSR information to the consumer through localization of CSR activities alongside product excellence and competitive product pricing. Our recommendation is that future research should consider smaller geographical zones, for instance an institution or a city.

    High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPs) are communication facilities situated at an altitude of 17 to 30 km and at a specified, nominal, fixed point relative to the Earth. They are mostly solar-powered, unmanned, and remotely-operated. These platforms have the capability of carrying multipurpose communications relay payload, which could be in the form of full base station or, in some cases, a simple transponder as is being used in satellite communication systems. HAPs, when fully deployed will have the capability of providing services and applications ranging from broadband wireless access, navigation and positioning systems, remote-sensing and weather observation/monitoring systems, future generation mobile telephony etc. HAPs are also known to be low cost when it comes to its implementation and are expected to be the next big provider of infrastructure for wireless communications. There have been a lot of ongoing and exciting research works into various aspects of this emergent technology. As radio Engineers, the need to predict the channel quality and analyze the performance evaluation of such stratospheric propagation has generated quite a few models. Although some of the models under consideration are from the existing terrestrial and satellite communications which in some way, have some relationships with this new technology. This thesis work provides some insight into this new aspect of wireless communications in terms of the need for a new system, its benefits, challenges services provided and applications supported. Existing models already researched and developed for HAPS are reviewed; one of them was picked and deeply looked into as regards the propagation and channel efficiency. The analysis of the choice model is presented using one of the performance test for channel models, the bit error rate (BER).

    Work Performance in most organizations is determined in most cases by performance appraisal. The Implementation of performance appraisal on employee work performance and subsequently the derived feedback from the process have recently derived attention from both researchers and the management of any organization. However the knowledge of gaining the trust of employees as well as getting the appropriate feedback is seriously lacking. This thesis tried to review the attitude of employees to work as a result of performance appraisal within an organization. PURPOSE: To review the effects of performance appraisal on employee work performance and work effectiveness.     Studiens syfte var att belysa faktorer betydelsefulla för kommunikationen i mötet med en demensdrabbad person utifrån sjuksköterskans perspektiv. I litteraturen framkom det att det var många faktorer som spelade in. En demensdrabbad person förlorar successivt den språkliga delen av kommunikationen och blir mer beroende av den "tysta" kommunikationen som exempel beröring. Studien gjordes som en litteratur studie med en kvalitativ ansats. I resultatet framkom faktorer som; fysisk kontakt, språk, mimik och bevaring av integritet. Från dessa faktorer har slutsatsen gjorts att i kommunikationen med demensdrabbade personer bör sjuksköterskan vara flexibel dvs. ta situationen som den kommer och kunna kommunicera både språkligt och kroppsligt samt kunna bevara integriteten hos den demensdrabbade personen. De demensdrabbade använde den "tysta" kommunikationen betydligt mer än den språkliga kommunikationen.

    Icke farmakologisk egenvård vid sömnstörningar: en litteraturstudie2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis

    Bakgrund: Sömnen är ett av personers viktigaste behov. När en person får för lite sömn ger detta kroppen sömnbrist, vilket påverkar flera funktioner i kroppen negativt som behövs för att vi ska kunna fungera. Sömnbrist kan leda till sömnstörning. Sömnstörningar kan vara en egen sjukdom eller ett symtom på en annan sjukdom. En metod för att motverka sömnstörningar är genom egenvård. Icke farmakologiska åtgärder är en egenvårdsmetod. Vilka icke farmakologiska egenvårdsåtgärder som fungerar för de olika personerna påverkar personernas erfarenheter av åtgärderna.

    Syfte: Att belysa personers erfarenheter av icke farmakologisk egenvård vid sömnstörningar.

    Metod: Litteraturstudie med kvalitativ design som baseras på åtta artiklar. Manifest innehållsanalys användes för att analysera artiklarna.

    Resultat: Erfarenheter av icke farmakologiska egenvårdsåtgärder samt Erfarenheter av tekniska hjälpmedel var det två kategorierna som framkom i resultatet. De egenvårdsåtgärder som framkom kunde antingen vara av fysisk karaktär eller påverka sömnen via sinnena. Åtgärder som kräver tekniska hjälpmedel fanns också. Majoriteten upplevdes påverka sömnen och vilan positivt. Erfarenheterna av CPAP och snarkskenan var till största del att de förbättrade sömnen. Däremot var erfarenheterna av tillexempel aromterapi att det inte förbättrade sömnen.

    Slutsats: Erfarenheterna av egenvårdsåtgärderna med fysisk karaktär, såsom fysisk aktivitet och kostförändringar, var till största del positiva. Däremot var erfarenheterna av de egenvårdsåtgärder som påverkar sinnena, som aromterapi och ljusterapi, mer kritiska. CPAP-masken och snarkskenan hade båda fördelar såväl som nackdelar. Däremot fungerar inte samma sorts egenvård för alla personer. Det behövs göras fler kvalitativa studier inom detta område för att syftet helt ska kunna svaras på.

    Light Field Coding Using Panoramic Projection2014Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    A new generation of 3d displays provides depth perception without the need for glasses and allows the viewer to see content from many different directions. Providing video for these displays requires capturing the scene by several cameras at different viewpoints, the data from which together forms light field video. To encode such video with existing video coding requires a large amount of data and it increases quickly with a higher number of views, which this application needs. One such coding is the multiview extension of High Efficiency Video Coding (mv-hevc), which encodes a number of similar video streams as different layers. A new coding scheme for light field video, called Panoramic Light Field (plf), is implemented and evaluated in this thesis. The main idea behind the coding is to project all points in a scene that are visible from any of the viewpoints to a single, global view, similar to how texture mapping maps a texture onto a 3d model in computer graphics. Whereas objects ordinarily shift position in the frame as the camera position changes, this is not the case when using this projection. A visible point in space is projected to the same image pixel regardless of viewpoint, resulting in large similarities between images from different viewpoints. The similarity between the layers in light field video helps to achieve more efficient compression when the projection is combined with existing multiview coding. In order to evaluate the scheme, 3d content was created and software was developed to encode it using plf. Video using this coding is compared to existing technology: a straightforward encoding of the views using mvhevc. The results show that the plf coding performs better on the sample content at lower quality levels, while it is worse at higher bitrate due to quality loss from the projection procedure. It is concluded that plf is a promising technology and suggestions are given for future research that may improve its performance further.

    Diabetes typ 2 är en av vår tids stora folksjukdomar som förväntas öka kraftigt de kommande åren. Livsstilsförändringar och egenvård är grunden i behandlingen och sjuksköterskors uppgifter är att utbilda, stödja och motivera patienterna. Syftet var att beskriva patienters och sjuksköterskors uppfattningar av sjuksköterskans hälsofrämjande roll vid diabetes typ 2. Metoden som användes var en systematisk litteraturstudie inkluderande åtta vetenskapliga artiklar. Artiklarna analyserades med innehållsanalys. Resultatet presenteras i fyra huvudkategorier: att uppmärksamma behov vid diabetes typ 2, att bygga upp egenvårdskapacitet, hot mot omvårdnad och egenvårdskapaciteten och att kontrollera och mäta resultat. I slutsatsen framkom att sjuksköterskors kunskap om diabetes typ 2 har betydelse för patientens livssituation. Det finns många missförstånd hos patienterna gällande sambandet mellan livsstil och sjukdom, vilket understyrker att sjuksköterskorna har en viktig roll i undervisningen om diabetes typ 2.

    Internationally, universities are undergoing renewal because of technological and social changes that both increases the importance of open and flexible learning, as well as makes it practicable. Net-based education makes it possible to create courses where students can collaborate and share knowledge globally. Collaborative Learning in Virtual Communities, with the working title Sesame, is a cooperative project between Blekinge Institute of Technology, BTH, and University of Pretoria, UP that has intention to provide a course like this. The aim of this collaboration is to initiate research in, as well as to test, and evaluate methods for net-based collaborative learning to see how this can provide new perspectives for students and lecturers in both countries. One key concept in the project is ?internationalisation at home? and this means interaction and knowledge sharing between people from different countries, and cultures, without them having to physically leave their country. In this thesis we describe the phase of constituting Sesame focusing on the cooperation between the involved parties from the two countries.

    Mellan 1960 och 1970 lades många järnvägssträckor ner sin verksamhet i Sverige, spåren revs upp och bilen tog över vår vardags pendling på allvar. Nu när effekterna av bilens framfart blivit kända är tåget åter ett intressant alternativ och olika gamla tågsträckningar vill återupplivas. Simrishamnsbanan är en sådan tågsträcka och är tänkta att åter förena de orter som finns mellan Malmö och Simrishamn. Veberöd är en av de orter som ligger utmed den forna tågsträckan och orten ingår i Lundskommun och mitt syfte med detta examensarbete är att finna svar på hur Veberöd ur ett ekonomiskat, socialt och ekologiskt "hållbart" sätt ska kunna anpassa sig till ett stationsnära läge, med tyngdpunkt på: Bostadsstruktur, Infrastruktur och Grönstruktur. Detta utifrån ett scenario där Simrishamnsbanan realiseras. Examensarbetet börjar med att problematisera hållbarhetsbegreppet och begrepp som täthet och gleshet, därefter följer en omfattande analys av Veberöds historia, bostadsområden, grönstruktur, verksamhet och service. Analysen identifierar olika centrumdelar och centrala stråk i Veberöd och hur en ny station i olika placeringar i byn kan samspela med dessa. Examensarbetet avslutas med fyra olika förslagsscenarion som är tänkta att gynna den fortsatta diskussionen om en ny station i Veberöd.

    Bachelors level thesis in Media Technology that aims to improve an existing concept of community development. The thesis shows how the definition of Community has advanced and changed its meanings with the help of modern technology. It is not always positive with new definitions. New problems arise within the community regarding management, ethics, and maintenance. This thesis analyses these problems and aim to solve them in a modern standard, with help of rhizomatic and participatory design. With the community shifting towards an online definition, the thesis uses the latest tools available in web technology, to build a product that uses situated knowledge as a mindset and combines participatory design and rhizomatic. This to solve the ongoing problems that online communities face with maintainability and ethics.
