The interplay between sound and image in animation is a crucial part of conveying stories, atmosphereand character development. Despite this, sound design is often treated as a separate element that is added late in the production process. This division can lead to the full potential of sound not being utilized. Research increasingly points to the importance of a more coordinated approach, where sound design and animation are developed together rather than as separate processes.

This work examines how collaboration between sound designers and animators can affect the artistic and creative aspects of an animation production. The focus is on comparing three different working methods, one of which is characterized by close, iterative collaboration between the parties.

The aim is to deepen the understanding of how close collaboration in creative processes can contribute to a more complex and expressive result. The study is limited to shorter, non-dialogue-based animations and focuses on the interaction between sound design and visual animation, rather than other production aspects.
