Wellness Reminder: Keeping You Active Throughout the Day

Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This work focuses on the development of a training reminder device to counteract a sedentary lifestyle. The introduction outlines the growing problem of inactivity that negatively impacts health, particularly in sedentary professions. The background explains why a standalone device is more effective than a mobile app, as mobile usage often leads to distractions that hinder users from acting on training reminders.

The problem formulation addresses how to help people manage their routines better and remind them to move during the day. The delimitations state that the project is conducted within the frameworks of BTH, utilizing 3D printing and programming with available resources.

The theory highlights the need for reminders to move, based on interviews with students who experience difficulties remembering to take breaks. The method for developing the device included sketching a design, using Arduino technology for programming, and 3D printing a housing to accommodate the components. The results show that the final product contained all intended features, such as an on/off button, a snooze function, and a confirmation button, despite time constraints preventing the implementation of a vibration feature.

The discussion reflects on the device's strengths and weaknesses, emphasizing the need for a simple and non-distracting solution. The conclusions confirm that a dedicated training reminder can promote healthy habits in sedentary environments, with suggestions for future improvements such as customizable timers and more exercises. It underscores that the project can serve as a foundation for further development of user-friendly wellness aids.
