Abstract [en]

Physical exercise plays a crucial role for improving overall health, building strength and endurance. Exercise makes you feel good about yourself and so on improving quality of life in both the short and long term. The number of people who engage in some type of physical activity is large and steadily increasing with a growing interest in health, well-being and an active lifestyle. The gym is the place where many of us usually find ourselves to be active. Among various exercises involve the use of a barbell placed directly on the ground, such as deadlifts. Deadlifts can be a dangerous exercise if the technique is incorrect. The main injuries you can get from deadlifts are back and knees injury. Handling heavy weights also presents challenges when loading and unloading weight plates from the barbell. The process requires lifting both the plates and a part of the barbell at the same time in an awkward position. This leads to reduced energy for the exercise itself and increases the risk of injuries where you often overestimate your energy. To support and reduce the risk of injury during this part, a device is needed. The solution to this problem is a portable ramp where the idea is to roll up the plate on the ramp to ease the weight change. This is happening while the barbell is connected to the weight plates. This ramp therefore becomes an important solution that both improves ergonomics, reduces physical effort and increases safety during exercising. To evaluate the market potential for this kind of product, a number of interviews were carried out at a local gym, targeting the gym members. Out of 12 participants, the majority expressed a positive interest in the product, highlighting its flexibility and the need for it to be both compact and wide for ease of use. The development process of the barbell riser included CAD modeling, stress analysis, and prototype creation. Autodesk Inventor 2025 was used for virtual design and endurance tests. A hand-made alpha prototype was also created to enable real world testing and to identify possible improvements for the final product.
