Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
Remote Stage Presence investigates how the relationship between audience and performer is affected when one of two musicians in a band participates in a live performance remotely through networked audio and video technology. The project focuses on how the audience's energy, response, and presence can influence the remote artist's sense of immersion and stage presence, and how the artist's presence in turn shapes the audience's experience of a live performance. Through an iterative Design Thinking process, a prototype was developed and tested using accessible consumer-grade technology, with an emphasis on low-latency audio, video communication, and immersive audio reproduction. Multiple tests were conducted in both rehearsal and live environments to examine how communication, interaction, and presence are experienced when one party participates from a distance of 100 kilometers. The project explores how digital technology can be used to recreate aspects of the social and emotional feedback that emerges between audience and performer during live performances, and which factors influence the experience of immersion in a networked performance context.
